There's something about these deer!
az4life replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I think we have another "Coues addict" coming out of the closet! Welcome! That is an awesome 2 pointer though by any ranking. I think I see what Deerslam is saying about that buck having some Muley traits. good luck on your 12a hunt -
driving off road to retrieve game
az4life replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Oh man, don't even go there! I would not cross into Mexico for anything less than a world record. Then I would have to have very good scouts to make sure I could get in and out without being seen! Would never take a gun or any ammo in either. They will lock you up and hold you ransom. Sure they won't call it ransome but that is what it is. -
I am pretty sure Josh Epperson uses hounds. Most lion hunters will tell yo that is the only way to do it. Check our Josh's website. He has some lion hunting video clips on it.

driving off road to retrieve game
az4life replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I think I would be a bit more cautious on a hunt where I was forced to retrieve game that had crossed into Indian Land. As a young un, I had a very bad experience with reservation police. Don't want to get in that position again. Nuf Said. -

Another good Q I feel the spirit of the law would be the important part. Bending as opposed to breaking a law. Yeah... Yeah..., maybe it is against the law to drive offroad, but if you do no harm by taking care to not create ruts, set no forest fires with a hot exhaust, destroy vegetation etc, I would probably at least consider it. After all it is important to take game in a manner where waste is not excessive too. We probably all drive faster than the speed limit on highways at times, considering if it is reasonable and prudent at that time is part of the decision process. We might complain if we got the ticket, but knowing we were "bending" the law is part of the risk. -
Congratualtions to both of you! 2 for 2 on any coues hunt is an accomplishment! I agree, That first buck looks good, maybe closer to 100" with good decent spread, mass and length! Hope you get him mounted!

Definitely a nice buck. Great friends make hunting better! If your buck is on the downslide, you have to wonder what he was in prime? Congratulations.
-
Title says it all! Hope you have a great day!
-
Travis Nice deal there! That buck looks pretty tall. Congratulations!
-
Naw... I dont think so. Toad might be close, but... It Looks more like it is from a Jackalope.

Super deal! Sort of like Christmas when the adults get the most joy from the kids opening and enjoying their gifts! Thanks for the story, pictures and excitement. Congratulations Alex!

Eastern whitey success

Shiras nice buck indeed. The lack of eyeguards is interesting -
If we could only do what we would like to do to idiots like these they would not be around for long! I just hope they do not have any friends to bring along next time. Obviously the "education" they got from you did not help.

Great pics Amanda. I am sure you will find a good buck during your hunt. In 24 it sure can get windy on those hilltops. I have been out in some of that type weather too and all you can do is try to hunker down for the blow. The tortoise pics are pretty neat. Glad you saved him from being mashed. Later

Well, maybe the AGFD site does not say there are lions in the unit, but Yes, there are. Here is a bit of proof. Mt Lions in 24b I have seen lion tracks before in this unit as well as scat and kill remains, so you better believe they are in there. You pretty much need a draw tag for any big game in the state. Look over the info on the AGFD site and you will get all the specifics. Your interest and desire to get an education is admirable. The best thing I would suggest is to keep reading the posts here, and review the regs on the Agfd site. Then tag along with your buddies and see it all first hand. Learn the glassing and stalking tecniques, from those who already use them. Earn your stripes by being a spotter and a pack mule for your buddy. Share the experience and you will find out what it is all about. Books and reading are a start, but experience is the best teacher. Welcome to the site and good luck.

I heard is was south of QC near the San Tan mountains. I thought there was a bird ranch along the Hunt hwy? I bet he will be back! Killing 20 of them you know he was having fun! Cats love the chase and probably the Emu's. I hear they taste like chicken!

Some guys have all the luck! Great Bull!

105 Very nice shooting and a great looking buck! What did he field dress out to? I think there was one other person who said they had a big bodied deer too and he was near 120lbs. Congratulations! Unit, Story and more details!
-
That would be Mr. Redneck to you!
-
Congratulations! That is one fine Bull. Hope you have real high ceilings so you can display him.
-
Arghhhh What a bummer. Talk about paying for a mistake!

jlhcoues Sorry, but I had to ask about the color. With the photo programs available you just never can tell these days. What kind of camera are you using? digi? Well I certainly hope you do tag him! Would love to see the rest of that rack. Stickers and all! He must have been very close so seems like you got a great spot! Good Luck!

Seen the fee proposals for 2006?
az4life replied to DesertBull's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Kevin, I could not resist the Cardinals comment. I sort of do like them. thye are about as close to a sure bet as you can get. (Betting against them that is) Our Funding sports stadiums should take a back seat to funding AZ GFD, but big politics and money always win over un-represented wildlife. Yes, The heritage fund is for AZGFD. Other than that, voluntary contributions on personal taxes are the only "guaranteed" funding outside of department fees. To that extent, The funding is guaranteed but the amount is not, since it is based on lottery sales and personal contributions. The department also gets federal grants and funding for a variety of studies. I am not sure what % of each makes up the final income but it would be interesting to know. I agree that the "proposal" is not written in stone, but I would have to say the mold has been cast. They know what the plan is before public meetings and unless some major @#%& hits the fan, it will be a pretty sure bet... like the Cards... -
Great story and very nice buck Coueselk. How did the video turn out? I am impressed that you can take so many pictures and video while that buck was calling your name!
