Now here is something we can all agree on. PETA people are idiots, and they are having a hard time convincing adults with more than half a brain that their animal rights cause is just. But now they are trying to corrupt other people's children and That is WAY over the line. Kids are impressionable and they do not have all the facts and life experience to make life decisions like being a vegetarian or protesting hunting. I would not fault anyone for tossing some good old organic steer manure on them for trying this crap tactic.

24b for me. Also counting the days. Taking another hike to scope out the area (and tie my buck to a tree) this weekend! I am not sure yet where I will be camping, but if others are nterested, maybe we can do a Meet and Greet and Eat in Superior, Globe, or someone's camp one night over the opening weekend? Red Quad Dakota with CWT decal in the rear window will be in my camp. Later!

Good article. thanks for the tip! after the flap about the minutemen on the border being armed it seems Sort of surprising they had the hunters detail them though.

I have hunted in and around those manzanita and juniper stands for a long time. Have always found the deer like to bed down in and under them. Great wind breaks too. After climbing in, under and around these thickets, you will often see "game trail highways" weaving under and through them. Lions, coatis, bears, and Lord knows what else uses them but the bucks and does do also. Yes they are often near impossible to see into. Tough hunting? Yes Productive? sometimes The key is to be there at the RIGHT time. If you have help and they want a challenge, Find yourself a good position on a decent sized patch of thick stuff. Have them do a "Push" with a few people clawing through the middle of it can work.

SWEET Find! Looks like it had 1 season in the sun. It is Still pretty solid I would guess with the dark color on the 1 side. Did you look around for the other side? That would be nice to get the match for sure!

Dodger2 I Enjoyed your post. Great news that your father is up and around so soon after that serious of a helath problem. Keep talking, and taking your dad out whenever you can. Times like that are what hunting is all about! We are all mortal and those good times will come to an end before we are ready for them to. Peace. Out

I also hope everyone has a great day, and we are all thankful for the things we take for granted. Service men and women are high on my list. I am especially happy it is only 3 weeks til I head to my late hunt!

After reading and re-reading the whole thread, I think I see some real advantages in just "lurking" on a forum. The main point of my posted response was sincere and I believe it was "Dead on". Unfortunately The point may have been obscured by my initial comment about one huntier ruining someone elses hunt. I Can't take it back but I can say it was a poor choice of words. My Apologies to any offended by it.

Amanda Might be good for those without GPS.. Give your buddy the directions.... .. take the road past the corral, and look to the hilltop on the south. The one with all the CWT flags on it. Okay, that wold be the end of the secret great spots. LOL

2506 I feel bad for the impact someone else had on your hunt experience (revised and deleted portion) but I am not sure you are reading all the posts that I am. Everyone Buckle up, this could get bumpy! I agree that in some hunters, the focus is on antler size, but that often is a result of poor training and inexperience. I can think of several youth hunters in recent posts who took nice deer, but made excellent decisions and made everyone around them very proud for good decisions and responsible actions. Some great deer but every one had great stories and experiences to share more importantly. I have to say that I see more "electronic high fives" on CWT for the individuals hunt experiences than concern with the animal's score. Almost every thread has questions about the hunt, experience and many even share the true flavor of the hunt in very emotional and thought provoking writing. Some fun has been had on that point by posting with "to be continued..." keeping our interest high. Sure there are estimates and numbers tossed around in some posts but I have not felt the "score" as the focus, but more of an observation or congratulations. A great rack will always have features and details not part of a smaller rack. I think recognizing the Animal and the hunter as well as the story are all part of the experience. Taking away any of these diminishes the overall hunting experience. I enjoy reading the stories and many of the best ones do not involve trophy deer but most are world class stories. As an example, Lately the thought process in public education has been to not "offend" anyone by recognizing individual accomplishments. I believe that step to a "Pass or Fail" system only encourages people to do "just average work", and not try to excell in anything. That is one reason why it is hard to find good help, and why Asian companies are leaving American companies in the dust. has Hard to believe in todays world that Recognizing individual excellence is not P C. I believe this has been a Banner year for Coues hunters and maybe we are a bit caught up in the excitement. Maybe I am reading between the lines but it seems to me that if you use the search function and query "story" for the last 60 days, you will probably find as many or more hits as "big buck". or "monster" or "120" . Everyone, Keep those stories coming! Thanks for letting me ramble.
