Great find indeed! Looks like a matched set with good mass. Hope I find that buck in a week when I am in 24b!

I think it is just plain too far north to see coati's around payson. This might be a tip for Scotty. We have uncovered evidence that small stature illegals are putting on monkey suits and making tracks across AZ for Denver. They have fooled a lot of us and are moving steadily north and were undetected... until now!

Lions, Tigers and Bears OH MY!!

Standman What did you put behind that log to draw them all to it? Strange that they all seem to be looking at or nosing around the same spot! Salt? -
Beautiful buck! Seems rather wide for a coues too! congratulations Kristen.

Ahhhh Finally the story! Mace, You may not be a writer, but it is plain to see you are a hunter! Perseverence and patience paid off. The Only bad thing is you are going to have one heck of a time topping this one! Congratulations again on the monster buck and thanks for sharing the tale!

Another Great Buck
az4life replied to gotcoues's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
V ery nice buck. Looks like a 5x4? Knarly eyegards too! Wish the resolution was a bit higher so I could zoom in but It just pixelates and loses detail. Good luck! -
I was in 24B about 10 years ago and I tree'd a coati. It was the strangest thing up close. I told my hunting partner it looked like a cross between a badger, raccoon, with a long monkey tail and it ran up and down the tree sort of challenging me while barking at me like an angry little dog! A few hours later my buddy spots a heard of coatis moving toward us across mountain slope. He said he did not know what I had seen, but it looked like he had some friends coming my way. A very strange sight indeed. About 40 of them with those long "cane shaped" tails moving across the hillside. Someone took a shot at a deer across a canyon and those things just scurried back across the hillside like rats off a sinking ship. I saw a warden later in that hunt and told him about it ( I had no idea what animal it was) and he said he had not seen coatis that far north in that large of a heard, but yes they are all over the southern part of the state. I think the bag limit is one coati per year but yest they are legal. It Sort of looks like that new carnivore animal they are trying to capture in Borneo bit with a different color. Here is a link to that story. Borneo Coati?

Looking for a needle in a haystack

Beautiful country for sure! thanks for the pics and diversion from work. I wish you better luck finding "Plan A". Nice to hear the coues rut is showing signs of starting. I was wondering if it would be late due to the warm winter we have had so far. I will be trying to fill my tag in about 10 days! -
Lark Lauging my tail off! Josh I got the point but could not tell for sure what was wrong with you. Seemed like you even forgot your name so I had to be sure you had not had been abducted by aliens or AGFD cronies. Didn't want to offend you by asking. The frog survey in another thread is still making me wonder bout agfd.
-
I defy anyone to read Lark's posts and not laugh. When posting gets heated, you can count on him to break up the "flames" with a good dose of sarcasm. Keep everyone grounded Lark

The personal bashing is what the main issue is. Asking a question about something like if a buck is crossbred or legitmately measured is one thing, but flat out Accusing someone "without proof" of lying or fakery is just plain wrong and detracting to all the good things on the forums.. Does anyone recall a "big Buck" picture that has been faked on the forum? Possible yes, but very infrequent if it has happened. Heck, we are more graphic hunters, not graphic designers. I am a proponent of not feeding the trolls on boards like this so when a negative comment arises, I try to let it pass and just consider the source. Sure there are exeptions, but the rule is there none the less. From wht I have read, AGFD deserves criticism but monster bucks do not.
-
It appears there is waste at AGFD but the frog thing is just classic. I have not had the first hand examples to share so I have kept my opinions more quiet than not. Folks like Josh give first had accounts of situations like these and it leaves little doubt. Are we better off WITH the AGFD or WITHOUT them? Most of us would say WITH them, however we would all probably have at least some changes related to expense control. As a Psuedo government agency, lately they seem to have adopted the policy of throwing money at every problem. Government agencies do "estimate" costs, but controlling them is another issue.. When was the last time you heard of a govenment plan or bond proposal getting cancelled due to cost over-runs? It just does not happen. Govenment agencies are rewarded with more money when they cannot meet their budgets. New trucks every 3 years instead of 1-2 years? Directors and personnel not in NEED of a SUV for Field use should get an economy car and pay for personal use. These cars are Perks in most cases and not necessity. AGFD, be advised, the scrutiny is heading your way. It would be nice to see a problem fixed without "throw money at it" being the first answer.

Very neat indeed. Funny how you can nearly walk right past something so interesting and obvious. Glad your hubby saw them! Wish we knew the stories behind them. Did you find any Deer pictures? If you did, it could be you are in a spot that has been good for bucks for centuries! I do not think they are from Lark as a previous poster suggested. He has been too busy for that. -
I think there should be a rule, any Pictures posted MUST have a story to go with them! C'mon. tell us the tale!
-
Yea, nice bull.. Don't be too humble, I would be very happy with one like that! tell us the story.
-
WOW ! That is a Big Buck. What was his field dressed weight? How about Some story hightlights....
-
Well without a coues tag for the last year, what else could I do? Dream, Dream Dream. I did keep my fingers in shape! Ya know, I was thinking that I spend more time here (on the board) than in the field behind the binos. Gotta do something about that! Prep for my Dec hunt now will keep me busy so someone else please take up the slack. Just thinking, Binos can be used almost anywhere and don't have pop-up ads either Peace Out

I agree. I am Just waiting for the story as well as the better pictures.

Pretty cool and I might give him a call. $1500 sounds fair, but he better have another set just like it cause 2 I want more than 1 .

Shot Dead - Yet Bear Attacks Hunter
az4life posted a topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Here is a link to the story. Bear atttacks hunter after being shot The Text of the story is below to avoid the data mine from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Black Bear Bites Pa. Hunter Who Shot It By MARK SCOLFORO Associated Press Writer HARRISBURG, Pa. ? A black bear bit and clawed a hunter who had just shot it four times in what game authorities said appeared to be a first for the state. Samuel H. Beauchamp, 47, said he was approaching the downed 320-pound bear in Rothrock State Forest in central Pennsylvania on Monday, the first day of bear-hunting season, when it came after him. Beauchamp, of Newville, had just shot the bear with a .444-caliber rifle and was within 15 feet of it. He turned to run, but the bear put a claw around his hip and bit him twice, once in each thigh, before dying. "The bear wasn't attacking 100 percent. I mean really, it was dead on its feet when it came up. If it would have been 100 percent I wouldn't have been standing there," Beauchamp said Friday. Other hunters nearby heard a growl and came to Beauchamp's aid. "It was shock at first. It's like he came alive, like 'boom.' I guess he growled, like the other people heard. That motivated me to turn around and start running away," he said. Game commission bear biologist Mark Ternent said the attack was the first case known to state officials in which a bear had attacked a hunter who had just shot it and was attempting to recover it. Beauchamp was released from the hospital after about two hours of treatment. One bite went down to the bone. "I didn't feel any pain after it happened," he said Friday. "I'm a little sore now." ___ November 25, 2005 - 5:36 p.m. MST -

ROFLOL ... LMAO Gotta love it! -
I don't really see how this will help anything cept the finances of the department but I am willing to listen to opinions

I printed it out and you were right. It is laughable. I wish I had ordered a double meat burger today! I showed it to a friend and he said he was interviewed on a local news show about a month ago regarding the protest going on at his local fishing shop. He was shopping and the people there had the same slogans and had a guy dressed up in a fish costume. He said they told him they had gone to some schools to address the students too! I guess wearing a lampshade on your head when you get drunk was not good enough? Liberal Lunatics trying to corrupt the impressionable minds. Next thing you know, they will only offer salads and tofu at the school lunch counters.

Yup, Me too! I am Hoping to see (and Kill) a lion this weekend while scouting. There was one close by on my last trip judging from the tracks in the road.
