Be careful! Coues Obsession would be a good analogy of the bug you could catch if you get started.

Cngrats to you and Steve! Nice story and did you ever notice so often the big wiley ones know where to be that hunters cannot get to during season. Backup plans are often all we can do. Take that one anyday though.

Josh, SSSSSSHHHHHHHH Keep it quiet will ya? With all the UDA and concerns in the units along the border people have been talking about, you have prbably pointed out the next hot spot in the state for coues. Now you might have a flood of hunters putting in there next year. AGFD will probably put it in the premium prices with fewer tags. There is always bow hunting until they mess that up too.

With the season coming to a close I took your advice Mr Stealth. Got a forkie in 24 b today too!

I think there is nucular waste in the water! BIG is right! wow.

Well the "force" , or something like it was with me today. Not being able to hunt more than a couple hours tomorrow, and not seeing anything at all in 2 usual rut hotspots, this morning, I decided that if the good Lord put anything with eyegards in front of me, That was going to be my buck. Well about 10:30 heading to my 4th favorite spot, I stopped to glass some in a burn area. Got out of the truck and was looking to the right, when out of the corner of my eye to the left, I spotted movement, I wheeled around and saw a doe being chased by a buck with his nose to the ground he was oblivious to me. I saw he had at least a fork on one side so I got in the back seat, took my gun from it's hard case, chambered a round and took a few quick steps away from the truck across the trail toward the deer. I got to an opening in the trees and saw He was still chasing and moving slightly away and uphill from me. As he cleared a dead tree he slowed and looked toward me and I saw a decent sized forkie. I fired freehand and He was down at about 225 yards across a ravine from me. My shot was about 3 inches high and back from my mark but it caught a rib on the way in and took out his lungs. I hiked to him in about 10 minutes and proceded to try the no-gut field dress method. That is pretty slick! About 30 minutes later I was done, and heading back to the truck. I Changed clothes and started out just in time to meet up with another CW member.(ConnXion) We chatted a while and then he headed off to try to fill his tag. Thanks for the prayers and workds of encouragement. He ain't a biggun like lots of you have got but he will be tasty I'll bet. Good Luck to those still out with rifle or archery tags. I am sure we will see a few more big ones before it is over. I will try to post a picute later after I pull it from the camera

Well glad to hear the rut is movin on up a gear. I am heading out early tomorrow, (2 hour drive to unit) probably solo and hope to take a decent one. Good luck to you guys, and I hope Mace did not use it all up on his whopper earlier this year!

Now THAT is a good story! Great job and congratulations. Heading back out to 24b Tomorrow sometime, and Saturday if need be. Still holding out for the 3x3 but that will likely change as the last 2 days wind up. Good luck to anyone still out there trying to fill tags.

You need to compress and reduce the size of the raw photo. I use adobe photoshop but most photo editing programs can do it too. Should be a function to resize the photo. Pixels or inches 350 pixels x 350 is usually good or 4" x 4" or clse to that will keep it manageable. Good luck

Anybody been quail hunting??
az4life replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
While I have been out deer hunting, there are Quail everywhere. Just my luck to find birds when I want Bucks! AGFD says it is a great year for Birds, if you believe them. -
Happy Birthday Josh!

Hey Josh, Happy B'day and hope you find another big shed for a gift! -
Great story predator. So what will you do for an encore? Go Elk hunting in a VW?
-
What a Christmas story and Gift! Sounds like you were on santa's "nice" list! Congratulations!
-
Hey Guys! Great story and thanks for helping keep some of that weed out of the dealers hands. Scottyboy might be right about the caution in posting that info but it might make it worthwhile to put in for that unit for other civic minded hunters. Thanks to the BP for quick response to your calls!

Hang in there Amanda. You got him pegged now, so go back when you do have the time and you won't let him give you the slip again.

Neat finds while roaming the hills
az4life replied to GRONG's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Last week, I was on a hike back to camp and found something neat. This one took several people to decypher but here is the tale. I was near a couple 1800 grave sites that are neat in their own right, and noticed a long red narrow ribbon lying along the trail. At one end of the ribbon was a popped ballon and at the other end was a white paper rolled up like a scroll. I unrolled the note and found this. (I scanned the note) Well I discussed it with a few people who said it was a neat find and I should have it translated as it was written in spanish. Special Thanks to Ernesto for the translation below! Dear Santa Claus: This Christmas I want you to bring me a -motorcycle -a star wars sword -Pants (swet pants) -Elmo the pupet, the one that eat cokies -The Polar Express movie -Max Steel (the doll or pupet) -a game of Sponge Bob,Patrick -a green helicopter -I promess to behave and be good with my parents and with my classmates. Atte: Oscar Hernandez Really wish there was an address to see how far the ballon came and be able to make a wish come true, however we can only wonder and hope for little Oscar! More discussion with Ernesto and I found out that it is somewhat of a hispanic cultural tradition to send letters to Santa this way, and hang a copy of the note on the Christmas tree. Hope you all enjoy this find as much as we have. -
Very nice Buck! Congratulations Mark and thanks for posting the pictures. Seeing it all unfold from a good vantage point was thrilling I am sure. What unit were you in? I was the "director" of a shorter stalk (1.5 hour) from a distance this year and I know what you mean.

Amanda, I would bet your patience pays off! Giving the whole day to a decent buck just waiting him out can be frustrating but it is addictive and too hard to walk away from. Good Luck and keep the updates coming. Keep us posted on the rut! Looks like I might get out on 26th and 30-31 will be my last hoorah if needed. Later

coosefan Way to tell the story Jim! Another case where the hunt experience is the real trophy. Congratulations to Matt!

Being politically correct is not my strong suit so if this offends one of the 12% of population who do not believe in the "reason for the season".. so be it. Merry Christmas To all the members of the best hunting forum around. God has truly blessed us with a wonderful year of Coues hunting. Great Bucks and more! Many have determined a truly successful hunt involves more than taking a huge buck. (although that can't hurt either) Spending time with friends, family and others sharing the experience with like minded people is another part of what makes life so special! God Bless one and all!
