    future in hunting for Az

Downthebarrel17 Welcome to the site. Kudos to you! Many of us have similar concerns, BUT it took most of us a long time to get that way. You have beaten most of us by a decade at least in becoming concerned for the FUTURE of hunting. One thing is certain, Hunting will change in the future. Be it for the beter or worse, it will change. It is up to us to become involved and effect the change the way we believe it should happen. Many hunter advocacy groups are out there to help direct individual energies and at least in part, they are one answer. These groups will also help disseminate information and focus on core problems as well as solutions. AZGFD (And everyone else) have their own agendas, but there needs to be common ground. Personal Involvement can bridge that gap. One place to start is to Contact a group like the ADA www.azdeer.org and sit in on a few meetings. Get some ideas and help wherever you can. Thanks for asking the question and hope we give you encouragement for the future.
  2. Congrats on your recognition Mark. I guess you get e double dose of excitement for that one. First when you took him and now for some more recognition! Enjoy!
  3. OUCH It was a hot one at Cabelas today! I saw on the news, they had a fire over there today. Took our a section of roof and other parts of the construction that may delay the opening a little bit. Hard to believe they can be ready the end of July looking at the outside even before the fire. Gives me more time to save up!

Garth Great story fer sure! Others adding fuel to the fire and personal experiences definitely show the quality of the members here. My story may be along the lines as Ernesto's so the story is appreciated and welcomed. Thanks to everyone who shared.
  5. I agree with your thoughts Keith. Adding a few that hit home with me also, If You rode to school on a bus, it had no Air Conditioning and no one got heat stroke. Sunglasses were for tv stars and pilots. Kids did not wear them except on vacation in California. Your parnets knew your friends and where they lived. If your friend got in trouble while at your house, his parents expected him to be disciplined by any adult on scene. The ads and store signs around town were all written in english, and spanish was something you took in high school. Kids could play cops and robbers with toy guns and not fear being shot by police. A kid could ride out of town with a shotgun on his bike and go bird hunting without creating a panic. Kids had respect for teachers and went to school to learn. A student never disrespected a teacher. SOOOOO MANY more to recall but times have changed for sure....

    blowing my own horn

Congratulations Bill. I am sure most any of us would be proud to shake your hand and call you friend! I believe you are deserving of this award. You should remember to thank Algore in part for your award. Thank him for not inventing the internet any sooner. If he had, you may have spent your time writing on forums like this, and not in the paper! Fro now though, thanks for sharing your insight and humor with us here at CWT. Enjoy the award and ceremony.

Great Idea Josh. Then we can read the whole "unedited" story.
  8. Az you may have guessed by my handle, I am a native of AZ also. I Did not realize there were so many of us natives on the forum! The largest stand of ponderosa pines anywhere in the country only 2 hours away from the valley. Driving up to one of the rim lakes for morning fishing on the old hwy 87 through sunflower and then an afternoon of hunting sqirrells on the control road. Deer hunting, Bird hunting, hiking, camping, 4 wheeling, bass and crappie fishing while relaxing in between water ski runs on apache lake, fish crek hill with trailer in tow and oncoming traffic less than 1 inch from touching as we crawl up/down the road. Fun and wonderful things all ! Yup, we Had it all! Big city but friendly and "smaller town" feel. I say "Had" because I have seen many of the best things found here, change in negative ways over the past 10-15 years. Many things I enjoyed so much in the past are gone, and may never return due to change. We all should live for each day and take part in the things that we enjoy and love while we can because change is one thing that is inevitable. I have finally learned that you can fight change, you can go along with change, or you can turn the tables, and "create" change "for" yourself and make new rules and your own "game" to play in. Enjoy it while you can!

Hope you get a big piece of Cake! Happy Birthday
  13. I met a few guys this weekend who have this "sport" down to a science. People just look at them, and laugh at them but if it works, how can you argue with it? I am gonna leave this subject out there for a while to see if anyone has ever heard of it.
  14. Surprised no one bit on this.... anyway it could be something usefull in coues hunting. These guys have quads with sliouettes of Cows mounted on the front of them and shooting tables that fold out from the side. they drive out toward prairie dog town and play some cow sounds on the varmint caller and they can get right downtown in with them dogs before they know what hits em. Strange looking for sure... Seeing a "Cow" being carried around on the front of Quad!

    Wish me luck..

I would have to say the thing that keeps good marriages going is making sure you do NOT make your marriage a 50-50 proposition... In reality, it must be a 100% - 100% partnership Best wishes indeed! God Bless

    Going crazy?

Yeah, and I got a bridge to sell anyone who believes that. These tech guys still have their training wheels on fixes and I don't beleve they have a permanent fix in them. Not tryin to slam anyone but the geek squad...
  19. 4 calls this AM thanks for the heads up. One did say it was a medical bill... thanks for the heads up again
  20. Okay, I will make some calls tomorrow AM before I get out of range. Kevin, The Fact is, I think a lot of people were unable to view anything on the site for most of yesterday afternoon and evening. It was down so I only saw it now. I bet others had the same problem. Unfortunately my Company LAN admisitrator installed some blocking software so I can only see the posts in the evening. I Cannot see why they block a site because it has guns and hunting on it. Nothing more American in my opinion! I may not have to worry about that for long.... but that is another story.

    Stickers!

Well the Dakota shown is mine. So someone else has a Red one with a CWT decal... Like to see that one sometime. The other Sticker on the left hand side is an "earth" symbol. Y'know, Teal'c Jack, Sam, Daniel, SG-1..... Twas not me though at the dysart Lowes. Made it to the 83rd & T'bird local one but gogo juice is too spendy to go much farther. Later
  24. If you cannot find a set to try out in Flag, Cabelas is supposed to be opening around August in Glendale so get ready to make the drive. I was chatting with a few Cabelas people a few weeks back and sounded like it is on schedule.
  25. Basic stuff for another mortgaged hunter with more month leftover at the end of the money... Remington 700 BDL 300 win mag, 3-9x50 VXII with harris bipod and usually carrying 10x42 meade safari pro binos with a solid generic tripod. Also a 10-50x60 spotter on occasion. Have a couple rangefinders that are a bit large for packing so will probably be updating that soon. I always worry if I carried top notch equipment it might get too easy? My eyes are gettin older now so I may upgrade sooner than later!
