  1. Just got back from a grueling hunt that had so much adversity and problems, all the material I have I could write a book on it. Several things happened that were cool, but as luck would have it the best ones there is no proof as my camera broke when I really needed it. Details.. Hunting in the snowy range, Last night, I was hiking a marshy area and spotted a HUGE MOOSE along a timber line. This guy is massive, Paddle tips at least 5 1/2 ft wide and so many points, oh my word.... At about 70 yards from me I watched him through a small opening in the timber as he fed in the marsh. He spotted me after about 10 minutes as I was trying to get a better look at him. I slowly backed away and he stayed motionless. Big Sigh of relief.. These things are known to be very hostile to humans... Still wanting a better look, I tried to move in from a 45 degree side angle and felt something was not "right" after a few yards. I moved back and looked for a wider angle. Just then I hear crashing in the timberline and see a smaller (still large) moose coming my way from the sme spot I was in a monemt earlier. This brute is following me and we are on the edge of a marsh with little cover for me. I thought about climbing a tree but put it between me and him. He saw me and came to about 20 yards. We stared at each other motionless for 5 plus minutes then he decided to go into the marsh. I went for my camera in my pack and he heard me drop to the ground, turned around and stared at me trying to get the camera up. I froze and we stared each other down again from about the same spot. I was hunched over as he stared at me this time, and after 5 more minutes I could not take it. I started making grunt noises, Bleat called, and sort of squirrel sounds. He finally turned away and headed out in the marsh. I got my camera up and tried to zoom- it died - restarted it and it died again several times and I changed batts, it did the same thing. Never got it going and missed some GREAT pictures up close with Bullwinkle himself. Beautiful country and today I found out why they call it the snowy range. Camped at 9600 ft and it started Blowing, snow about 10 and we barely made it to the highway slipsliding away down the road around noon. What went wrong? Ran out of Gas on the way but coasted in a station, Chipped a back tooth on the way to the hunt, Camera died, never saw an elk (ok, I did see the tail end of one bolting through timber), grew a 6th toe on left foot, (actually turned out to be a blister the size of my little toe), got a major blister on my heel of the other foot, Hiked average 8 miles daily and did not lose even 1 pound. Chipped brand new glasses when they fell in the snow, helping putting tire chains on. Great scenery for sure though... Gotta unpack and plan for next year!

    Emergency supplies

Lots of good points so far but there has to be some more out there. The thread from last year covered basics that you carry, but this topic so more for what you do in a pinch, sort of Macgyver your way out of the situation. Feel free to add more troubles. I agree, the feet are important so prevention is key. I like the duct tape idea and could have used it. Someone told me that soaking the blister in ice cold water as long as you can stand it reduces the size overnight. Anyone tried this? My boots were several seasons old so I did not expect problems and since moving to Wyoming, I discovered the joy of Wool socks, and hunting clothes. Nothing better. Goretex socks are new but I'll be picking some up soon. Keep the ideas coming... BTW, My chipped tooth is going to cost about a grand- Root canal and Crown. No easy fix for that one... The dentist said Temparin I bought does not hold most of the time....
  3. Gun sales are up in the country... Way up... and that is about the only thing that is. Most folks are worried about the Obama-ssiah and his track record on making guns and ammo as inaccessible to Americans as possible. I'm going to get a couple next weekend right before the election to do my part for the economy and express my own "support" for the Obama-ssiah's new order! BO's Lemmings might call it Paranoid but I call it prepared!

I heard about this a while back but not one word on the lamestream media. Passing this on, but I don't know many people who would vote for Obama-ssiah anyway.

Open invitation to any CWT members that make it up this way, I'll try to make some time to meet for lunch or dinner. If it's under 10 bucks we can charge it to 25.06

    CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS

More things to look forward to under Obama's rule: PREPARE for a new America: That's the message that the Rev. Jesse Jackson conveyed to participants in the first World Policy Forum, held at this French lakeside resort last week. He promised "fundamental changes" in US foreign policy - saying America must "heal wounds" it has caused to other nations, revive its alliances and apologize for the "arrogance of the Bush administration." The most important change would occur in the Middle East, where "decades of putting Israel's interests first" would end. Jackson believes that, although "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House. "Obama is about change," Jackson told me in a wide-ranging conversation. "And the change that Obama promises is not limited to what we do in America itself. It is a change of the way America looks at the world and its place in it." There is more but the article is pretty long. Look it up on the new york post if you don't believe it.

    wyoming antelope

Congratulations on your trophy! My lope was not anywhere that nice this year. My Brother In Law had a good story this year in Wyoming though. He filled his buck tag and was ready to fill one of his doe tags (had 2) so he goes out and spots a heard and picked one that looked larger and was standoffish from the rest of the heard. He ranges it a bit over 300 and lays the 280 down and shoots seeing the antelope fall dead. He is walking up to it and notices it looks "odd" almost twisted around, and as he gets closer sees the body does not look right. A few more steps and he sees the lope, is actually 2 lopes. Both does, and the one he aimed at was a lung shot with the bullet passing through and then passing through the neck of the one he did not see. He is sure glad he had both tags with him! The thing is in the range finder and in the binos he watched this lope for several minutes moving around the fringe of the group and never saw 2 of them! So he He gets 3 lopes this year with 2 shots!

    CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS

Anyone voting for Obama... Yeah, McCain slipped and I bet I do stuff like that many times daily, don't you. We don't have cameras on us every second though. what about Obama-ssiah telling everyone he has been to all 47 states (50 states in the US and 47 recognized islamic states) or maybe .... saying how can he reduce taxes for 95 percent of the US housholds (no slip here, jsut bad math) when just over 60% of US households actually PAY any income taxes. He said Monday while talking to a Plumber in ohio, that he is not going to raise his taxes as a smalll business owner, but he just wants to "spread the wealth around" Check out the definition of Socialism or communism there dudes. Sounds pretty close to Obama's ideas. We can go on and on for both guys so Wise up. More news WHERE DID OBAMA'S MONEY COME FROM??????? Subject: New York Times Editorial By MAUREEN DOWD Published: June 29, 2008 OBAMA'S TROUBLING INTERNET FUND RAISING Certainly the most interesting and potentiall y devastating phone call I have received during this election cycle came this week from one of the Obamaâ's campaign internet geeks. These are the staffers who devised Obama's internet fund raising campaign which raised in the neighborhood of $200 million so far. That is more then twice the total funds raised by any candidate in history and this was all from the internet campaign. What I learned from this insider was shocking but I guess we shouldn't be surprised that when it comes to fund raising there simply are no rules that can't be broken and no ethics that prevail. Obama's internet campaign started out innocently enough with basic e-mail networking , lists saved from previous party campaigns and from supporters who visited any of the Obama campaign web sites. Small contributions came in from these sources and the internet campaign staff were more than pleased by the results. Then, about tw o months into the campaign the daily contribution intake multiplied. Where was it coming from? One of the web site security monitors began to notice the bulk of the contributions were clearly coming in from overseas internet service providers and at the rate and frequency of transmission it was clear these donations were programmed by a very sophisticated user. While the security people were not able to track most of the sources due to firewalls and other blocking devices put on these contributions they were able to collate the number of contributions that were coming in seemingly from individuals but the funds were from only a few credit card accounts and bank electronic funds transfers. The internet service providers (ISP) they were able to trace were from Saudi Arabia , Iran , and other Middle Eastern countries. One of the banks used for fund transfers was also located in Saudi Arabia . Another concentrated group of donations was traced to a Chinese ISP with a similar pattern of limited credit card charges It became clear that these don ations were very likely coming from sources other than American voters. This was discussed at length within the campaign and the decision was made that none of these donations violated campaign financing laws. It was also decided that it was not the responsibility of the campaign to audit these millions of contributions as to the actual source (specific credit card number or bank transfer account numbers) to insure that none of these internet contributors exceeded the legal maximum donation on a cumulative basis of many small donations. They also found the record keeping was not complete enough to do it anyway. This is a shocking revelation. We have been concerned about the legality of bundling contributions after the recent exposure of illegal bundlers but now it appears we may have an even greater problem. I guess we should have been somewhat suspicious when the numbers started to come out. & nbsp;We were told (no proof offered) that the Obama internet contributions were from $10.00 to $25.00 or so. If the $200,000,000 is right, and the average contribution was $15.00, that would mean over 13 million individuals made contributions? That would also be 13 million contributions would need to be processed. How did all that happen? I believe the Obama campaign's internet fund raising needs a serious, in depth investigation and audit. It also appears the whole question of internet fund raising needs investigation by the legislature and perhaps new laws to insure it complies not only with the letter of these laws but the spirit as well. IS IT RIGHT FOR FOREIGN COUNTRIES TO HAVE AN INVESTMENT IN WHO BECOMES OUR NEXT PRESIDENT??? IF YOU ARE IN AGREEMENT WITH THIS, PLEASE PASS IT ON.

    CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS

Everyone that is worried about Oabama-ssiah needs to take a step back to gain some perspective. OBAMA is not alone in his desire to strip you of your guns and take more of your money through Taxes, Fees, and redistribution plans. He may not be able as he said "even if I want to" take your guns but what about banning the lead ammo, and restricting access to powder and primers, and on and on. OBAMA has his 2 amigos (Pelosi and Reid) that are just waiting for a chance to push the whole enchilada liberal agendas through new sweeping legislation. This IS the brewing of the perfect storm for Liberalism. IF the House, Senate, and President are all Liberal, we are all screwed beyond what any of us can imagine. Pelosi is even planning on bringing in special sessions ASAP if BO is elected. You can bet it won't be to plan the republicans going away party. Next, look at the Judicial branch. How many justices on the supreme court are these liberals likely to push through in 4 years. With the ACORN driven false voter registration and thousands of Dead people being added to the voter rolls, plus the various states with no identification required to vote, what do you think they are gearing up for?

    CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS

That is part of it for sure. These guys are not the best choices but they are who we have to choose from. I cannot believe any sane thoughtful person would vote for the inexperienced person in the times we have now. It is sad that race is playing a lot in this election and no matter what the outcome, it is also sad that it will not bring the country closer in race relations.
  14. az4life

    Good Read

Agreed. Politics would be better for us all if they only talked about Coues deer. Affirmative action also played heavily in the Fannie Freddie Debacle. Preferencial treatment based on race does no good in the long term. Watching the "analysis" after the debate tonight it is hard to see it as unbiased. It's more like a personal commentary and the only thing missing from Perky Katie is the OBama-ssiah shirt

    CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS

I'm voting Democrat because English has no place being the official language in America . I'm voting Democrat because it's better to turn corn into fuel than it is to eat the corn. I'm voting Democrat because I'd rather pay $4++ for a gallon of gas than allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America . I'm voting Democrat because I think the government will do a better job of spending my money than I could. I'm voting Democrat because I agree that there should be no reference to God on our currency. I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to kill us because they'll think we're a good and decent country. I'm voting Democrat because my next door neighbor, who is unemployed, gay and on drugs, suggested I vote Democrat. I'm voting Democrat because I believe people who can't tell us if it will rain in two or three days, can now tell us the polar ice caps will disappear in ten years if I don't start riding a bicycle, build a windmill or inflate my tires to proper levels. I'm voting Democrat because I like the idea of relaunching the draft for all individuals, students or otherwise, between the ages of 18 and 42, as proposed again, most recently in 2007, by Democrat Senator Charles Rangle - NY. I'm voting Democrat because it's alright to kill millions of babies as long as we keep violent, convicted murderers on death row alive. I'm voting Democrat because I really like the idea of paying higher taxes and seeing this money being distributed to illegal immigrants flooding our schools and our medical facilities. I'm voting Democrat because I believe businesses in America should not be allowed to make profits. Businesses should just break even and give the rest to the government so politicians and bureaucrats can redistribute the money the way they think it should be redistributed. I'm voting Democrat because I think a President, and his first lady bride, who have for 20 years attended Sunday church sermons presented by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, will be a positive influence on America, even though the theme of these sermons is consistently a voice of hatred being directed to America and it's white citizens. I'm voting Democrat because I believe that granting equal rights to terror suspects is a good strategy for America, regardless of what happened on 9-11. I'm voting Democrat because I believe it is good that a Muslim-connected president will take special steps to protect the bizarre religious practices and customs of other Muslims residing in America, in spite of the fact that some of these people are committed to the destruction of America. I'm voting Democrat because I believe guns, and not the people misusing them, are the cause of crimes and killings. I'm voting Democrat because when someone with a weapon threatens my family or me, I know the government can respond faster through a call to 911 than I can with a gun in my hand. I'm voting Democrat because oil companies' 5% profit on a gallon of gas are obscene, but government taxes of 18% on the same gallon of gas are just fine. I'm voting Democrat because I like turning on my TV and going to movies and hearing foul, profane language, and I like the idea that my kids hear it too. I'm voting Democrat because I believe there is no place for God in American society, regardless of the fact that America was founded on a platform of Christianity. I'm voting Democrat because I agree that we must protect the concept of free speech, including protecting the purveryors of internet pornography which is readily accesible to the children of America. I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four elitist liberals should rewrite the Constitution every few months to suit some fringe minority element, such as gays and lesbos, that could never ever get their ridiculous agenda passed by a majority of voters. I'm voting Democrat because illegal aliens are not criminals, are not sucking up resources through government aid, hospital services, education, or social service, but are just people trying to make a better life by coming to America illegally. We can't blame them for that, can we? I'm voting Democrat because I don't want my kids exposed to the Lord's prayer in school. I'm voting Democrat because now I can now marry whatever/whoever I want, so I've decided to marry my horse. Makes ya wonder why anyone would ever vote Republican, doesn't it? NOT

  19. cruise along the rim country roads and as you find secondary roads stop and sit for a few minutes and as things settle down, then walk a bit. Always worked when I was younger. Got exercise and had a blast when we found them, chasin them up trees then from branch to branch and even tree to tree with the 22lr. You may get more with a scattergun but you get more fun with the 22.

    another lope goes down

I gotta agree any antelope with a bow is a great achievement in my book. Congratulations! I dropped one this weekend with a rifle in WY. I had a large heard spotted and was stalking to a rise about 300 yards from them to take a shot and my plans went down the tubes. A small buck was out on perimeter of the heard and was taking his walk right toward me. The darn thing just kept walking right at me and I had to drop him or he would have busted out in a few seconds I am sure and spooked everything for miles with him. Not like I was aiming for a trophy so one buck at 100 yards was easier than 1 at 300+. Really It seemed like a gift. This is only my second one and the first was similar in the antelope was coming towards me, out in the open at less than 75yards! Have 1 more doe antelope tag to fill then help family fill their 5 tags hopefully before elk season next month. GOOD luck on your elk in MT too!

  23. A bit of irony... "Dear Editor, Times-Dispatch: Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day, and on July 4 I celebrate America 's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence. On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba , and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress. I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least rec eptive. When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, 'Praise the Lord.' And when the young leader said, 'I will be for change and I'll bring you change,'everyone yelled, 'Viva Fidel!' But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone rec eived their free education, it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story. Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America ? Would we?"
  24. The Presidential election was too close to call. Neither John McCain or Barack Obama had enough votes to win. There was much talk about ballot recounting, court challenges, etc., but the election committee finally decided on a more sportsmanlike way to settle things. It was decided that there should be a week long ice fishing contest between the two candidates to determine the election winner. The candidate that caught the most fish at the end of the week would win the election. After much of back and forth discussion, it was decided that the contest would take place on a remote frozen lake in northern Minnesota There were to be no assistants or observers present, and both men were to be sent out separately on this isolated lake and return at 5 P.M. with their catch for counting and verification by a team of neutral parties. At the end of the first day, McCain returned to the check point and he had ten fish. Soon, Obama returned and had no fish Well, everyone assumed he was just having a 'bad hair' day or something and hopefully, he would catch up the next day. At the end of the 2nd day McCain came in with 20 fish and Obama came in again with none. That evening, Harry Reid got together secretly with Obama and said, 'Barack, I think McCain is a low-life, cheatin' guy. "I want you to go out tomorrow and don't even bother with fishing. Just spy on him and see just how he is cheating." The next night (after McCain returns with 50 fish), Harry said to Obama, 'Well, tell me, how is McCain cheating?' Obama replied, 'Harry, you're not going to believe this, but he's cutting holes in the ice.' Experience Counts !
