Added some color to my 308.

It took a while but it's pretty simple with pre cut stencils. Prep is everything and try not to rush anything. -
Got hit for elk at 7:48AM.....60% chance it's a bull tag.

Mee too. I put in for 2 archery hunts.

......but it would make a good addition to your collection.

Nice shooting. I've got some 178 ELD-X's loaded up for testing tomorrow out of my new gasser. Varget didn't shoot like I hoped so trying some IMR 4064. Got some 168 BTHP's to try aswell. Keep up the good work. -
Just be ready for their famous 20% restocking fee if you cancel. They are notorious for showing items "in stock" on the site, but customers often find out (after a lengthy period of time) that the product wasn't "in stock" and still has to be made. Then, if they cancel they are hit with the 20% restocking fee for something that doesn't exist yet. A couple years ago it took the better part of 2 months to get a Savage bolt head and a 308 no-go gauge.....which both showed were in stock at the time.

12" free float handguard for LR308/DPMS pattern low profile uppers. Don't know what the brand is but it's a slim design with 4 rail sections on the front. Inside diameter is about 1 3/8"....great condition. $100 bucks. Superlative 0.875" adjustable "bleed off" gas block....clamp on style. Used for about 80 rounds and works great.... $75 bucks. Trade for Lapua 22-250 brass. Located in Apache Junction. -

Official "Target Fun Shoot" Thread
Kingzero replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I never got a chance to shoot mine....too much stuff going on and the weather didn't help. Maybe I'll get a chance at the 200 yard target. EDIT: I finally got a chance to go shooting so I figured I would shoot my target even though I missed the deadline. The small circles were hard to see, especially with a FFP scope. I probably should have dialed the magnification down a little. -
.300WM Christensen Arms Load Development
Kingzero replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Well it wasn't that much. I just went to check my notes and couldn't find them. I asked my wife if she knew where my yellow notebook was and she said she stuck it inside a white binder. Unfortunately it was a white binder on top of a stack of stuff to be thrown out.....which was 2 weeks ago. It had all the chamber measurements, factory and fired brass measurements and load info and results for 2 different powders......bummer. EDIT: Just measured one of the factory rounds and a fired case and the difference is 0.012 -
.300WM Christensen Arms Load Development

Nice job so far. I would love to shoot a Christensen arms rifle but wonder if the cost is worth it. Especially since my Tikka 7mag is 8.5lbs ready to hunt. I had been working on load development for a friends 7wsm and all his once fired HSM brass looked the same as those 300's. -
I had Phoenix Custom Rifles put a Badger Thruster brake on my Tikka superlite in 7mag. They did a great job and it made a huge difference in the recoil.

Remington 700 Switch barrel?
Kingzero replied to 300RUM's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Have a look at this. It seems to work much like the AI system and tightening against a solid shoulder for speed and repeatability. I wonder if it could be modified to work with a Tikka action? https://westtexordnance.com/switchlug/ http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2017/01/tyler-kee/west-texas-ordnance-switchlug-2017-shot-show/ -
Doesn't get much better than a Tikka for a factory rifle. This would leave you with enough money for good glass and ammo. You could always upgrade the stock later. http://www.eurooptic.com/tikka-t3-hunter-300-win-mag-jrta331-with-rings.aspx

How heavy of a rifle are you willing to lug around? Is it going to primarily be a long range target rifle with the occasional hunt thrown in or a dedicated long range hunting rifle?
-
Buds Guns has good prices on bare 700 actions.

I always looked at the 308 as an outdated cartridge and never really had any interest in owning one. Until I had a little pre-election panic and called on my buddy Jason from Predator Technology Group. I usually build my own AR's but parts were already scarce and Jason had everything but the gas block. I gave him the go ahead and he built me a sweet rifle. I haven't had a chance to shoot it much but it looks promising. The dies came in today so I will start load work up soon.
