Just Cerakoted my bolt gun.
Kingzero replied to Kingzero's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I ordered all the parts and Long Rifles Inc. did the barrel work. With the suppressor and a full 10 round AW mag it is around 15.5 pounds. -

You have to blast it off with 100 or 120 grit aluminum oxide and then paint your new color. -

Yep, did it myself. I have done a handful of other things, but this was my first bolt action. I'm going to do my Tikka next.....I just need to decide on the color. -
I already did.

High Volume 223/556 reloading
Kingzero replied to n2horns's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a Hornady LNL progressive. I only load 223 for hunting coyotes so I don't usually do a bunch at a time. However, I loaded 1000 rounds of 9mm a couple weeks ago and had them done in about 7 hours. -
Good place to start and what's it worth?
Kingzero replied to codyhuntsaz's topic in Long Range Shooting
If you want to get into shooting long range and be half way decent then you need to practice.....especially if you intend to take game at distance. Practice means shooting and 300 wsm would be a little pricy. If you are ok with that then rock on....it sounds like a good starting point. Another option would be to start with a 308, 6.5 Creedmoor or even a 223 if you can find one with atleast an 8 twist barrel. These have good options for factory match ammo and will be easier on the wallet. Also.....I would not flute a factory barrel. A heavier rifle is more forgiving when trying to reach out there. The weight savings from fluting is minimal and would hardly be noticeable when packing a rifle. The cost to benefit ratio isn't worth it in my opinion. -
They are still an NFA regulated item. Game and Fish legalized hunting with suppressors a couple years ago.

This is the type of stands I make......

Always nice to hear when a terrorist looses his head. The DAN .338 is a rifle manufactured by IWI (Israeli Weapon Industries). http://www.tactical-life.com/firearms/israel-weapon-industries-dan-338-bolt-action-sniper-rifle/#israel-weapon-industries-dan-338-bolt-action-sniper-rifle-left

I have a Tikka T3 Superlite in 7mag and had Phoenix Custom Rifles install a Badger Thruster brake.....best thing ever! It recoils like my old 260 and if I pay attention to form I can spot hits at 300 yards on steel. I know steel and flesh are different, and in the heat of the moment you may not be able to confirm a hit at distance on an animal but it will help you get back on target faster. If you want to read some cool and interesting info on brakes then check out these links. I know most of these brakes are geared towards tactical competition rigs, but some can be used on the smaller contour barrels of hunting rifles. For anyone on the fence, I would look strongly at the American Precision Arms lineup of brakes. http://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/08/21/muzzle-brake-summary-of-field-test-results/ http://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/08/12/muzzle-brake-blast-ground-signature/ http://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/07/25/muzzle-brakes-ability-to-stay-on-target/ http://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/08/07/muzzle-brakes-sound-test/

I had the most interesting stand over the weekend. While hunting a new area we got turned around and ended up back at a spot we already called. It was getting late and we only had time for two more stands so we decided to call that spot again since it didn't produce anything earlier. As we drive in to hide the truck I see a bobcat duck into some thick brush. I tell my buddy to stop and back up, and he backs up running tree branches down the side of the truck......SCREEEEEEEECH. We exit the truck with me shaking my head trying not to smack him. We push into a small clearing with maybe 15 yards of visibility and I hang my call in a small tree. As I am getting ready to start the call, someone rolls up behind us in a diesel and parks. After a couple minutes of listening to them talk over the sound of that idling diesel they finally back out and head off. By now im figuring this is a waste of time but im already set up so I start the call. I have a sound that has worked well for cats so I start with that on a low volume. Not 2 minutes into calling and we hear gunshots in the field next to us. Geeezzzzzz.......what else can happen. I continue to call and bump the volume a little and then catch movement to my left. A bunch of quail pop out and fart around in a small opening. I watched them for a couple seconds and then look back to my right and see the cat sitting there looking into the tree with the call. I slowly swung my rifle his way and settled the crosshairs just as he looked at me. Bang......flop. He weighed in at 19.7 lbs.

Got this big guy yesterday. Should have 2 more but we won't talk about that.

Sweet setup. I bet it shoots as good as it looks.

I participated in my first coyote calling competition last weekend. My buddy Dustin signed us up for the South Eastern Arizona Coyote Calling Challenge. I think there were 29 teams and we got 4th with 5 coyotes. First and second tied with 9 and third had 6 coyotes. I decided to run the shotgun on the first day and that turned out to be a mistake. Had a couple dogs hang up just outside of shotgun range and would have possibly killed them if I had my rifle. Had fun BS'ing with the other hunters and won a 40 quart Grizzly cooler at the raffle. I think the total killed was 63 coyotes.

Get after them....shoot one twice for me.

I use a Mossberg 500 with a 20" barrel. I actually just patterned it again after having to track down a shot coyote. Pick up some 3" #4 buckshot or Hornady Magnum Coyote BB's and shoot them at different distances with different chokes to see what works best. Mine is a toss up between a full and mod choke and sucked with an improved cylinder and Carlsons Dead Coyote Choke.........kina weird. Max distance for my setup is probably 40 yards.

Possibly.....when and where?

Can't remember the exact sponsors. It was in Thatcher. You have to write the date and time you kill them on the pipe and use zip ties or tape to hold it between their jaws.

We both took shotguns the first day.....second day we used rifles. The pics were taken just before check in.

I am running a YHM .30 cal titanium Phantom and my buddy has a Surefire .224 cal.....not sure of the model.

Probably a long shot, but looking for a 28" RH 80% let off cam for a Mathews Drenalin.

I think he stated the caliber so people would know he needs a long action with correct bolt size.
