There are springs up there that the deer know of and we dont. They havnt left.

Jolly Sink. 205 rd. Bucks will be running together. Get pretty nocturnal. Not good glassing up top. Bucks will be in the thick cover in the canyons all day. If you jump one there will likely be many.

Around Clay springs.

Missed a call yesterday from AZGFD. Then got the email. "You were next in line for unit 9 Pronghorn hunt". Called them this morning after a tough night of deciding to go or not since the hunt starts in a week. After weighing all the pros and cons, the cons won. Too good of a tag to go up there half-assed. I have been waiting a long time and when I do draw, I will spend months scouting, shooting, and planning my hunt. It was hard to turn it down, but I think it was the right decision. Hopefully it goes to a deserving hunter. Wish they let me know a few months ago, then it would be a no-brainer. BTW, the Gal at Game and Fish was super nice and was a pleasure to talk with.

Agree. Just no G3 on the right side. 140 range

Thanks for the support. I agree totally.

Would you really give up 25 Bonus points to hunt 1 day? Congrats on 4 tags also.

With 25 BP's figure that I'll draw before I Check out. I have been waiting 23 years and I really only want 1 Goat tag. Once I draw, it will be my last time applying. Also dont have anyone to go with me. My huntin buddy George is out of the country, Part of hunting is enjoying it with friends.

A friend of mine had the late hunt there in 2009. We set camp down by Saddle Mtn trailhead. Only saw 1 deer in 3 days, no other camps either. Went up top and all hunters up by Jacobs Lake taking Deer. We stayed up top and he killed the next morning. Its hard to pinpoint the migration. When it happens it doesnt take them long to get down.

Its not always large snowfall that moves them down. If there is several hard freezes up top and their browse freezes several times, it will lose its nutrients. Does will leave first. If Rut hits that will bring down the Bucks. Usually the Bigger ones last.

My Brother in law in South Dakota found this Shed the other day. He had seen him on the hoof. He said the other side was a typical 4pt. When he spotted the horn in the snow he said it looked like a piece of driftwood. Thus he named the buck "Driftwood" Wonder what he will be next year?

Probably some resident deer there. Its pretty low country. Better up top early. -
Verizon works well in most of the unit.

Have been to Mt Rushmore a dozen times. It will bring a tear to your eyes, it does me every time. Pictures do not do it justice, it is awesome in person. Make sure you watch the movie in the auditorium also. The facts surrounding its creation are amazing. Also the story of the Crazyhorse construction. Sometimes if you hit it right you can witness some blasting going on there.

Have been there many many times. My wife is from there. Stopping at wall drug is a must, great hot roast beef sandwich. Pioneer auto Museum in Murdo. Crazyhorse monument is a must. Also the "Cosmos". Deadwood is fun and Keystone lake is beautiful. Driving through Custer state park is always on our list. Lots of wildlife and some of the prettiest country you will find.
