Was at the range today. Doing some load development on a couple rifles with a couple different bullets thrown together in one, charge weight testing in the other after a ladder test. Very happy with most of the results. Almost everything was under .75", more than half were under .5". (AxisWorks rifles). This is just 4 different loads with the 160 TMK seated to the lands over H1000, just thrown together to see if they would show any promise... Then....2 tables away.....big talker with a pretty nice rifle. Bragging to his buddybat the next bench on how last week he shot a 1" group at 600 yards. Nice Kimber rifle with a nice NF scope. Well....100 yards, 5 shot group was a minimum of 6", probably closer to 8". So that proves right there that one week you can shoot a 1" group @ 600 yards, then the next week shoot a 6" group at 100 yards......right?

Taylor had #3049 for one of her choices. 2 tags left???
-
Dang. That is amazing.

Either tag is an experience. Big bucks are killed on both hunts. Small deer are killed on both hunts. Big deer are killed up top on both hunts. Big deer are killed low on both hunts. Big deer are NOT behind every tree on either hunt. You can hunt as hard or as easy as you want on either hunt. That will effect the quality of deer taken however. If you hunt hard, get away from roads, know how to glass, and can pass mature bucks and wait for a big buck, the chances of killing a big buck will arise. Long shots are possible, but So now busting a buck from 20 yards. Could be 70s one day and snowing the next. But could also never get above 25°. Wind is usually present. Start working up a load with non-lead ammo now so you are not scrambling with only a month or 2 if you draw an early tag.

New AZGF rule (proposed, which means it’s a done deal) about game cameras:

So they can legally confiscate trail cams around water sources. It might put a stop to the thousands of guide cameras in trophy units where there are 20 on each tanks sending instant photos. -
If Mullerworks contours are the same as Rock Creek (who starts Mullers barrels)9, it is a .650" muzzle diameter @ 26". Right in between a Bartlein 2B & 3. Good hunting contour. Like a heavy or magnum sporter. Mullerworks barrels have an outstanding reputation for accuracy.

I have a decent shot at an antelope tag. Not much chance for elk, but never know.

Cut the grass.....hmmmm....let's hire a new division of DHS/CBP. The GCA "Grass Cutting Authorities". Of course, how are we going to vet all of the landscaping professionals who normally perform this task....

Lucky idiot...

An eye-popping experience.

Very well said! It will do everything the bigger cases will do with less powder, longer barrel life, less recoil, and better brass life. The short action thing is in your head if that what you like. Difference between a short action and long action is one inch! If that's too heavy or you can't manage the longer bolt throw than it's a plus. It's shiny new nickle! I would not say "it will do everything the bigger cases will do". Several will outrun this by 100-200+fps.

8-9" twist in .284/7mm is always a good choice. -

Let me guess....you are going to want to shoot a 143 ELD-X or 140 Accubond... -
Shooter. I would most definitely say very few people can shoot a 1/2" group, even if the rifle is a 1/4" gun.
-
This. You can get faster 6.5 rounds for sure, but factory loadings and all of the 6.5CM fans will foam at the mouth over this as a hunting round. That being said, there are older, faster and more efficient 6.5 rounds that still fit in an SA. 6.5 GAP 4S, 6.5 SS, 6.5 SST, 6.5 WSM, 6.71 Phantom (Lazzeroni), and a few other wildcats.

New barrel breakin sequence, lets hear yours......
lancetkenyon replied to Lazy-H98's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sit. I have rifles that I know will start to open up at 100 rounds, so when I get close, I clean. I have others that will go 200-600. I keep an accurate round count and cleaning schedule data, so I know when I am getting close. -

Factory rifle? 1. Shoot one, clean for 10 shots. 2. Then shoot 10, clean, done. Custom rifle with a good barrel? 1. Shoot one 2. Shoot one 3. Shoot one 4. Repeat 1-3 until accuracy falls off. I have several rifles that will shoot in the .1-.2s all the time that have gone through this method. I highly doubt a "break in" would have improved anything. More damage is done by improper cleaning than shooting. When I do clean, it is a complete strip. I use Shooters Choice #7 and Sweets 7.62 for copper removal. Last clean of several rifles with up to 200 rounds through took 2 passes with Sweets to get all copper out. A good barrel should not need a lot of cleaning.
