Confidence building in teens, what have you done?
lancetkenyon replied to CatfishKev's topic in The Campfire
Tell her don't be afraid of an butt-kicking. Everyone I know has had one a time or two....or several. I know I have had more than my fair share. Sometimes it hurts to do what is right. I bet she is tougher than she thinks. -
I feel you. Had to put down my lab a couple years ago. We had her for 12 years, and she was 3 when we got her. I have a 15 year old GSP that I know is getting short on time. Had him since he was 8 weeks. Every morning when I wake up, I hold my breath until I hear him coming down the hallway when my alarm goes off. He is my patrol dog. He watches the house all night while the other 3 sleep. He sleeps all day though. And when I am home, he sleeps by me wherever I am in the house.

147 @ 2943fps. I am surprised at how low that number is to be perfectly honest, even for factory loads. I bet handloads will beat that by a fair bit. I am the first one to admit I will take accuracy over top speed. I got 2850 from a 24" 6.5CM pushing 143s. 2920 from a 26" .260 Rem w. 140s. 2960 from a 6.5SLR w. 140s. 3030 from a 26" 6.5-.284 Norma pushing 143s. 3117 & 3165 from a 26" 6.5SS pushing 150 SMKs. 3120 from a 26" 6.5 SAUM pushing 147s. 3210 from a 26" .264WM pushing 143s. A light loaded 3200 from a 26" .264WM pushing 130s.

Hornady has great marketing skills when introducing rounds that overlap several other rounds already in existence and convincing people they are new and needed. 6.5CM did this w. 6.5 Grendel, 6.5x47L .260 Rem, 6.5x55 Sweed, 6.5x57 Mauser, and a ton of other lesser used SAAMI and wildcats. 6.5 PRC will do this with the 6.5-.284 Norma, 6.5RM, 6.5SAUM (GAP 4S), 6.5SS, 6.5WSM, .264WM, 6.5-300 Weatherby, 26 Nosler and several other great SAAMI and wildcats. All with crappy brass to start with while everyone else waits to see if it will catch on. I am all for new cartridges. Especially if they fill a niche. Variety is the spice of life. People just need to weigh their options before they jump in with both feet.

No joke, Taylor (16) has a boyfriend now. He thinks he is funny. He was texting me the other night, I guess trying to be funny. I sent him this photo, and told him "First round hit at 1500 yards. I could easily hit a human head at over 3/4 mile with no one even knowing where it came from." He quit texting me. Then, when he was over at our house one Saturday, I returned from the desert shooting long range. I think it was quite sobering as I brought in 4 long range rifles in a row as I walked by without saying a word to him. -
Depending on pack, $250-500.
-
Don't go cheap if you want your pack to be: comfortable, durable, able to do what you expect.
-
I have three different Eberlestock packs. Not the lightest, but have hauled a lot of gear and game for me. Team Elk (heavy, but hauls some stuff including rifle scabbard, and lots of gear. Works great for elk and deer hauling too) X2 (Taylor's pack, better fit for smaller frames. Big enough for elk rear quarters too) Blue Widow (Great hauler pack. Not as many pockets, no scabbard, but very comfortable and big) you can add a separate scabbard easily

Too late. Not like WY where you can buy a preference point after the draw. Besides, apparently BPs don't mean a thing.

It was not her strict upbringing. That is just good parenting. Which too many kids lack these days. Luckily, I have two strongwilled kids who know right from wrong and have family values and good morals. They might both be soft spoken, but know how to quietly remove themselves from a situation they should not be in. The "fear of Dad" is strong in them both. And their friends fear me too. Which is a good thing. Because they should. I make that first impression count whenever I meet a new friend. -
Rip out the tile.

When do you predator hunt?
lancetkenyon replied to CatfishKev's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I hunt them whenever I see them. Weekends, work days (as long as I have a rifle and do not have a customer behind me), morning, noon, evening, or on I-10 @ 80mph and they make the grave mistake of trying to beat my truck across the road...... -
Saw two bulls in 6A this morning still packing.

Work of art! -
I have 3 other alloy shrouds. No issues with them. I will be doing load development for the rifle as soon as it is done and time permits.
-
I have an alloy bolt shroud for it in hand. Here are actual weight savings from another build I did for bolt mods. Alloy bolt shroud -2oz Bolt flute -1oz Carbon fiber knob vs steel -2oz. Vs alloy -1oz Skeltonize handle should lose -1oz (never done one yet)

I have NEVER had an elk within drivable range with a SXS or quad personally. Mine have ALWAYS been pack out elk. Multiple trips of pure heck on your shoulders/back/legs. It makes the plating after grilling so much sweeter.
