Great organization to help out that does a LOT of good work for our state and for the youth hunters too. The banquet two weeks ago was a blast. I spent a ton of money there. Almost won a Mexico Coues hunt in the auction. My wife and daughter got a bunch of silent auction stuff. I got my lifetime membership too. Always fun watching the Commissioner's Tags live auction. I think the mule deer tag was the lowest I have seen it go in the past 6 years. Which is weird, because I think it is going to be another great year for antler growth with the spring rains we are getting in back to back years. -

I will be up in 7w with my son-in-law too. Look for a white 4Runner TRD.....hopefully like this. I have been on a ton of late hunts in 7W. From -10* and no snow, to 0* and snow so deep you can't drive, to 55* and sunny hunting in t-shirts, to 30* and rain and mud. And some go from 55* to -5* in 2 days. Prepare for all weather. Don't trust the forecast. Elk will still be at all elevations unless they get hammered with 24"+ of snow weeks before thee hunt. Even with 12" of snow, we have found elk at the highest elevations during Dec. Hunt the stuff away from roads, thick and nasty, steep, almost inaccessible. That is where the bulls will be. Or....flat as a pancake and thick with Junipers. Anywhere 98% of people WON"T go.

Anyone heard about this change in 2020? I have a buddy who screwed up his app, drew a terrible unit with 10BPs that he says he did not apply for (but was more than likely his mistake scrolling during the hunt choice), and is already planning on turning his tag back in with Point Guard. He says a buddy of his (who is dating a G&F worker) told him of a change this year where you do not get the bonus point for the year if you use your Point Guard.

Flatline map & OnX app.
-
Check unit 10. Good bulls can be had in that unit.

Tag Surrender/Point Guard=No Bonus Point?

You can only use point guard ONE TIME per species. So you better be pretty particular if you do. -

Bull Elk hunt in November unit 3a & 3c - need ideas
lancetkenyon replied to Art20's topic in Elk Hunting
Spend the $15/mo, $30/yr for 1 state, or $99/yr for USA, and get OnX. Worth it's weight in gold. Flatline Maps are too. -
Bull Elk hunt in November unit 3a & 3c - need ideas
lancetkenyon replied to Art20's topic in Elk Hunting
Buy a Flatline Map. Use OnX Hunt app. Find areas with steep, nasty, thick canyons and zero roads within a mile or more. Hunt there. Find those canyons as early as NOW, and start hiking them looking for sheds. Find elk sign and sheds, and you might find areas the bulls will escape to after they start getting pressured. I don't know 3A/3C, but I would be looking at lower elevations in the Pinon/Juniper areas for a late hunt. Tougher to hunt though. If you DO find a good buck, just take him to some powerlines for the photos. -
Holy Chit!!! Another Elk Credit card hit after Friday Morning

I clicked "like"...but I am still pissed at you! That is an awesome surprise! -
Yeah, I tried 3 times to buy guns from this guy. He kept turning me down for some reason....
-
I know the winner has been drawn. And he has been contacted. So if you are asking, must not have been you...or me either. But don't worry, there are more amazing rifles coming up in the next few months.

Keep the distance realistic, and it will be just fine. Better than a 6.5CM....

H1000 is my first choice as well. Accurate, cool burning, clean, very temp stable. But, it is impossible to find right now unless you already have some. Hopefully coming back in a few months. RL23 would be my second choice. A bit better speeds than H1000, still does well with temp stability, slightly less charge weights, easier (still not easy) to find, cheaper than H1000 too. Retumbo might work. But again, impossible to find right now. RL26 would be good, but has temp stability issues above 85* F. Good speeds, a bit dirty though. N565, but hard to find right now too. Almost impossible. H4831SC would be OK, easier to find, but might not get the speeds of the others listed. But take what you can get. Fairly temp stable, clean burning, a bit faster burning than all the other mentioned above. IMR 7828SSC works too. Not as temp stable, but not bad. Would be a good choice right now, as it is easy to find. IMR 7977 Enduron if you can find it, Better temp stability than IMR7828SSC, very similar burn rate. Cleaner burning too. Good choice, I have seen it available more than a lot of the others. IMR8133 would be good, but it is no where to be found like many others. I have been searching for a month with no luck.
