My 12 year old sons 2020 Archery Coues
lancetkenyon replied to Gbarcom's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Gerrod, like we discussed, amazing buck, your kid is a stud, your kid is my hero, we have spoiled kids! π -
Soooo want to see that!
-
Sun Devils fan here, but Lute Olson was a true gentleman and amazing coach. He created a legacy down there.

Private land tag, NM non-resident license, and other habitat stamps are about $440. "Trespass" or access/permission fees for a ranch vary greatly. A lot of ranches are run through a guide service, so costs are significantly higher. Our ranch manager let's us DIY. The method I prefer anyway.

Honest work is honest work. I won't disparage anyone from working for a living. His day job now has nothing to do with his past transgressions.
-
WTF is your problem? Never had an issue with you before, but that is a really stupid comment.
-
Was going to take 4 (main and backup for each of us), but figured we could share a backup rifle. So only 3 made the trip. 25SST, 6.5SS, 6.5SLR
-
Not my cup of tea for a hunt, sharing one tag with 30 other people. But, the dollars will help the elk, so sacrifice one for the betterment of the many.

Suggestions for bow hunting son that his father canβt give
lancetkenyon replied to apache12's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Mule deer love thick, nasty canyons just like elk, coues, etc. when the pressure hits. -
Here is the sad thing. Unfortunately for your BIL, even if the kill was 100% legal, the majority of people that know the back story of Blake, will wonder if every game animal he has been involved with taking, or helping on, was less than legal. That is a monster buck. Congrats to your BIL.

Not so great Zeiss warranty experience
lancetkenyon replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Optics and tripods
Send it back. I would not accept that as a "new" scope. -
27 I think I heard?
-
True. Just meant I wish I could afford the Gov tag and guide fees!
-
$15k for 500"+ bull. I promise you, the Governor's Tag holders pay WAY more than this. I imagine some of those tag holders have as easy of a time as these hunts. I have heard stories from some guides. Fly the guy in, drive him to the shooting position, he takes the shot, they drive him back to the airport, and he gets his deer delivered to him. Not all of them! Probably not even many of them. But it does happen. And having 15-20 guys watching an animal 24/7 for weeks prior, might as well be a high fence hunt. I wish I could afford to do it though.

That is going to be one expensive elk when the rancher releases him for a shooter. Behemoth elk. I don't care if he is farm raised and hand fed. He is impressive. That breeder is good at his job.

Mr. Silencer.

Putting hands on that buck was amazing. Great pair of bucks. As you know, I will be having a story of my own soon. One more day to get Taylor a buck.
-
Bone it out. Pack all the meat in 1 trip. It sucks, but can be done.

I must be the only one here who loves a Havalon replaceable blade knife. I have 3 of them. Two Baracuta (the filet knife size) and a Pirahnta. Super light, quick to change blades even with gore covered hands, scalpel sharp, cheap. I have had them for years. Takes one blade for a deer/pronghorn, two for an elk. I highly doubt they will go out of business and replacement blades will be unavailable. They sell too many of them. I have several other knives that I carry, but these are my go-to knife in the field. If I lose one, oh well. I would cry if I lost my ZT S35VN, Benchmade S30V, Or several others.

New Axisworks 6.5 Creedmoor

Welcome to the addiction. -
12A is the "prime turkey hunt in AZ" huh? Never knew that.
-
I honestly think I would!

I bore scoped my new CA Ridgeline barrel...not what I expected!
lancetkenyon replied to Viper's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Go shoot it. If it shoots, that is all that matters, but now you will always have that in your mind. One of the best arguments why NOT to buy a bore scope. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. -
I had Adam (Big Browns) sneaking around my tent at night...

Taylor is red/green colorblind too. I only found out like 2 years ago. (She is 18 now). No WONDER she could never follow a blood trail! But, she had Dad for that, actually, she usually just drops them on the spot. Which really helps in a quick and easy recovery. Maybe you should try that Grey Curse? π
