Recurve and Koala spoken for.

True. There are some cases that would require a 20MOA base to get to 1K. Like slower velocity, low BC, heavy bullets. OP stated he is shooting at 600 with a .30-06 and a 6-24x50 Vortex Viper, which has 42MOA of adjustment, so maybe 21 MOA or so up. Depending on load with BC, bullet weight and velocity, that should get him at least 900yds. or so, maybe more. Only issue I see, is with "only" 42MOA of total adjustment, with a 20MOA base, he might run out adjustment if the crosshairs are not centered in the adjustment range for sight in. We all know that dead center of adjustment range is rarely at the same place as actual sight in. If it is perfect, he would have 2 MOA of down adjustment, and 40 of up. I have also heard of a few Vortex scopes failing from pressure on the springs in the turrets while using 20MOA bases, as there is too much pressure being constantly loaded on them. Not just Vortex either, but some really high end glass.

Honestly, with shooting out to even 1K+, there is really no need for a 20MOA scope base. You can get away with any scope base. I would suggest a one piece though, as they help stiffen it up and with less pieces, it gives less chance for something to loosen up.

As others have said, either contact G&F about getting a CHAMP permit, or donate it to a youth. Don't let it just go to waste. Heck, I have a 12AE tag, if I kill early, I'll come pick you up and we'll go get you one!!!

One other thing. They never put in, and then when I get a bunch of bonus points, they want to apply with me. -
For now, here is the list of people in waiting (per PM and posting times) until I find out what each one wants: 1st: Legendary for the recurve and possibly one other (unknown which compound). 2nd: Dave_D for the recurve 3rd: vmartinez for the Koala PMs returned, and awaiting replies.

Absolutely amazing to be able to share moments like that with your kid. And he did great. That bull knew something was up but couldn't figure it out. Looks like he never really spooked. -

5th=$85 Bushnell Yardage Pro Compact 600 Comes with neoprene case and neck strap Honestly, it has never ranged much past 560 yds. No ballistic compensation. From 16-500 yards, it ranges fast. Past 500 yards, it takes a second to read the range. It has always been accurate for me. Uses a 9V battery, so easily available if the battery dies and you have to run to the local Circle K. Yards or meters Rain, reflective, zip, and scan settings.

So G $ F is violating the Lacey Act? I am not sure of the legality of the sale of elk antlers but a single entity. Read the Lacey act and tell me what you honestly think. It was established to curtail the commercial harvesting of wildlife for the sale of parts. Commercial sale, to me, means for a profit.

Technily, EVERYONE is incorrect about who the animal belongs to. Arizona is part of the United States, and the US has a strict policy for game management. There are laws established called the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, and all animals are held in Public Trust. Meaning the animals are owned by the PEOPLE, not the government! The AZGFD just MANAGES the game. As for the sale of antlers, I do not see how this does not violate the Lacey Acts of 1900 & 1907. It is still the commercial sale of animal parts.

Opening Day of Arizona’s Cowtown Long Range Shooting Club - 4-Oct
lancetkenyon replied to Bill Poole's topic in Long Range Shooting
I was there for about 3.5 hours, and shot a total of 8 rounds..... But, I had a blast calling shots for others, and helping dial them in. I was really just there to check my hunting rifle for my deer hunt coming up this month. And I am happy to say I am good to go. It is pretty primitive up there, which is fine by me. There were also a couple different ranges, with plenty of steel targets to choose from. One range has targets from 100 yds. about 1100. The west ranges have targets from 200 at one platform, and start at 315 yards at the other. These are covered platforms and are pretty nice. Not a lot of room for multiple shooters, maybe 3 at a time per platform, 4 if you squeeze in. I shot at the range that started at 315, and counted steel at: 315, 317, 360, 400, 420, 460, 565, 568, 600, 646, 717, 818, and 989. There were others scattered in there that I did not range as no one on the platform was shooting at them. I made my cold bore shot at 565 and drilled it. Backed off and spotted for others for about 30 minutes. Next shot was at 646, and had another 1st round hit. Repeat the spacing and had 1st round hits at 717 and 818. Then tried my hand at the 989 target, and had a 2nd round hit on that one. Then took a couple quick shots at 460 to confirm mid range dope. I will say my rifle is on for deer season. I had a good time meeting and spotting for some new people. I heard they are planning awning for the east range, which has targets out to 1100+ yards. That would be a great call, as it was still pretty warm in the sun today and only mid 90s. The place is also fairly laid back and with it being a membership type place, I do not see the local yahoos like are so prevalent at Ben Avery frequenting the facilities. Even with no range master at my station, there was never any lack of safety. People there knew gun safety, and...wait for it....common courtesy! Again, not a common thing at Ben Avery. Also, no need to go down range on the long range canyons. So no 30 minute breaks in the middle of shooting. Shoot at will. There looks like there will be facilities for sighting in if needed, and there were numerous 50 yard ranges, and I think a 100 yard range as well. But they were not in use today. I talked with Bill Poole, and he was talking about having numerous days open per month, and hopes to have a schedule out as early as a week or two. Once that comes up, I will seriously think about joining. It is only 25 minutes from my house, I don't have to lug my own steel, and switching from 400 to 1000 yards is as easy as a 20° rifle swing, rather than walking 600 yards and finding a clear shooting lane. A few things I would really love to see. Shade for the east range, and hopefully extending the shooting area. Maybe adding additional shooting platforms at the west range. I think it would be cool to get some additional steel targets like animal silhouettes for us hunters. Maybe as a donation rather than an annual fee? The east range Target rich environment One of the covered west range platforms -
Not necessarily true when weather factors in. I have noted 29.90 to 27.85 at Ben Avery. Not that 100 or 200 yards makes much of a difference, maybe 1/2", but longer shots can be drastically effected.

.257 Weatherby is a .257 Roberts on steroids...and nitrous. Same bullet, just about 400fps faster. Like a .308 Win to a .300WM. And most Weatherby ammo is pricey.

Nice! Congrats to your daughter. Love seeing kids get into the sport.
