Remingon 700 5r stock
lancetkenyon replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Depends on the model 700. 5r is a barrel designation, not a model #. I think the stocks are Bell & Carlson though, not HS Precision. 700 LR 700 XCR Tactical LR 700 XCR Compact Tactical 700 Mountain 700 Sendero 700 Target Tactical http://www.remington.com/product-families/firearms/centerfire-families/bolt-action-model-700.aspx -

After recent upgrades, I am swapping out some binos and accessories. 3rd=$150 Cabela's 10x42 roof prism binoculars These were $379 about 10 years ago. Not phase corrected. They are made in Japan, and I was told were the same binos as the Nikon Monarchs. No scratches on the lenses. One dent in the outer ring near the objective, but does not effect any quality. Comes with original covers and case.

lancetkenyon replied to AZPREDATOR's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Nice to meet you Wade. Glad we got your scopes all set up. Now go kill a toad and post some photos. -
Don't know about Tucson, but Wide World of Maps in Phoenix has the entire state in 7.5' maps.

I am guessing you are young, single with no family. Congrats on doing something adventurous. I wish you luck in your future. Have a blast, you only live once.

Are you guys going to be getting the new Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 in stock soon? -
Ha! No way. Honestly, if I would have found them, I would have tried to find the owner. But I don't mind the free bumps.

I have a sawzall, drill, 4# sledge and a bunch of 4" drywall screws. Plus bailing wire and duct tape. Maybe half a tube of silicone bath tub caulking too. Do I get the job? -
What size/brand binos did you have in the Kuiu? 10x42?

The only thing about ballistic matched turrets is they only work at the conditions you design it for. Elevation, temps, angle of shot, barometric pressure, bullet weight, BC, velocity, even humidity all change the ballistics and POI of a round. And some powders are temp sensitive, so will change velocity at different temps (from 95° to 35° makes a big difference), sometimes as much as 75fps. They will be close under similar conditions, and you can still use a ballistic program and clicks when conditions change.

Really hard to get anything done at work while you are looking at the interweb all day....trust me...I know how you feel.

KYB vs. Bilstein vs. Rancho
lancetkenyon replied to My Rights As An American's topic in The Campfire
After a quick search of "Bilstein 4600 vs. 5100", I came to the conclusion that the 4600s are better for a stock height truck and the 5100s for a lifted truck. Google it and read a few threads all over the interweb. -
Packed last night until 10PM. I have 90% of the stuff either in the truck or on the trailer. Just need the clothes, guns, optics, and perishable food and I am ready to go.

No trades at this time. Squirreling my pennies away for a high end scope.

Amazing story. Loved it. Make the photos bigger please! Congrats to the kids and good luck to the dad and other kid this weekend. Be safe and fill the rest of the freezer!

Bergers are very close to published BCs, because they actually worked with Bryan Litz to develop the BCs. On most ballistic apps for phone (like SHooter and Strelok Pro)or JBM Ballistics, they have Bryan Litz's BCs in the library of bullets. Making the charts much more accurate that inputting some published BCs.

Yeah, 1K+ is addicting. When you can do it on demand, makes it even better. When you can do it with a .25-06 Ackley deer rifle when others can't with $8K tactical rifles, it makes it AWESOME!!!

KYB vs. Bilstein vs. Rancho
lancetkenyon replied to My Rights As An American's topic in The Campfire
Depends on which Ranchos. I used to run the 5000s on my rigs just for the fact they were OK, but inexpensive, and I destroyed them on a regular basis. The 7000s are too stiff for a light truck. The 9000s are nice for adjustability, but pricey, and without an in cab controller, you won't get out and change the settings very often. This past weekend, after 7 years, just changed the shocks on my F250 from Rancho 7000s (that were way worn out) and put in some Donohoe Racing shocks my son-in-law got as takeoffs at his work. Holy cow they are nice!!! I would say the Bilsteins would be a good fit for a Toyota. While I have never used them, I have heard good things from other mild wheelers. As you can see, this type of stuff is hard on shocks..... -
Personally, I do not wear blaze orange until I am packing out a game animal. Not for safety reasons, but for the fact that I do not want other hunters to see me and know where I am hunting/heading. I don't want to give away honey holes I have worked hard to find. I actually stop and get behind trees or bushes if I see a truck on another ridge while I am hiking into my spots.

PM received and responded to. Camo Parker is SPF.

My daughter is stoked for this weekend. Which is a good sign, since it is not even her hunt!!! She is already planning with her teachers to get homework to take with her on her elk hunt. Two of her teachers have husbands and/or kids that will be up elk hunting too, so they are very understanding. One even told her she would not have to make up missed work, but my daughter, being a straight A and responsible student, told her teacher she would rather still do the work to make sure her grades stay strong. What a kid! I am a very lucky dad, as my daughter loves spending time in the outdoors with me, but is responsible enough to know that her school is her job for the time being.

260 rem vs 7mm-08 vs 243 vs ?
lancetkenyon replied to creed_az_88's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Good call on the twist rates. A .243 115gr. VLD requires a 1 in 7" twist rate, and a 105 VLD requires a 1 in 8" twist. Probably not readily available in a factory rifle.
