Love the gutless method. Used it on my deer and my daughter's elk this year. WAY easier and cleaner. Especially for elk. I used to get bloody up to my shoulders. I barely had blood on my hands with the gutless method.

Since you did not state a cost cap, or intended usage other than a scope on a classic rifle: I will assume a gloss scope (as matte was not available back in the day) and fairly inexpensive. Weaver K6 Classic, Classic V Leupold VX-1, or VX-2 Bushnell Elite

I am at 23 points this year. 18 is not terrible. I met a lady and a youth that drew the tag I was after last year with 5 & 2 points respectively. Stranger things have happened.

Samsung Galaxy S5 for most of my stuff. Easy to shoot photos, then upload them directly to Photobucket from the phone. For my scouting photos, I use a Nikon 5200 SLR. It takes amazing photos, but HUGE files. I figure it is easy and quick to take photos to accompany an ad, a picture is worth 1000 words. Or so I'm told.

Looking at the mag ring, I would say it is the Viper (non-HS). That is a decent price for the scope, they are like $500+ new.

I would love to send some downrange out of a .300RUM at about 3300fps too. I would assume these are a VLD type bullet design to get that BC? Long ogive, small meplat, long boat tail? Are they going to be for hunting (softer copper), or target?

You should make a hook with a long handle for trigger pull. I love seeing kids getting into the sport.
