Their website shows out of stock, and it is usually pretty up to date.

I picked up some H4350, and some of the same for another member on here this week. It has been a long time since I have seen it on the shelves. It seems like they are usually a touch higher priced than other places, but at least they have what I needed, without having to scour the internet and pay shipping and Haz-Mat fees. Bullets are usually cheaper at Bruno's than other stores though.

Smoking price. If I didn't already have 10x42s and 15x56s, I would grab these in a heartbeat. Love both of mine.

How does your other one shoot?
-
That's true but the question is are they shedable?Of course they are. They are a hard antler, so they are dead and will be shed, to be replaced with a new set this summer. I wonder if that was a 1.5 year old buck with bad genetics, or a 6 month old button buck? This does bring up a very interesting question though....is a cactus buck a legal deer to shoot? They stay in velvet year round and NEVER shed their antlers again. What does G&F consider "fully erupted from the skin"? Velvet is technically skin, so are early archery season bucks technically illegal deer too?

Good to hear. This should not have turned into a bidding war anyway.

I think my stance on women/girls hunting is pretty well known....if not....here is a hint. Plus, I only have girls, so taking a son hunting is kind of out of the question. My son-in-law has gone dove hunting with me a couple times, but no big game yet. I wish I could get my wife to hunt, I am still working on her. She goes up as often as she can with us. My older daughter, now 23 so no digital photos back in the day 11 years ago, used to hunt when she was younger, with a deer, elk, and archery sheep under her belt.

I have ridden the ski lift up to the top of San Fran peaks in the summer and hiked the bowls, Freemont, Agassiz, and Humphries. Saw deer up there, but not a ton. But then again, I did not have my binos out looking specifically for deer. Humphries is 12,633' AMSL, truly above timberline, which is right around 11,300-11,600' on Humphries. And thin air for a Phoenix born guy. Humphries kicked my butt, even when I was in the best shape of my life at 23 years old. I am sure I could do it again, but it would take me a lot longer now. There are areas on the Bab that are above 9100', but not a true alpine environment. Aspens galore though.

"Antlered=having an antler fully erupted through the skin and capable of being shed". "Antlerless=not having an antler, antlers, or any part of a antler erupted through the skin". I say this qualifies. Should be some fantastic eating. I would get a euro mount too.

Shouldn't be hard to find....he is tied to a tree in the first photo, looks like he is yelling...."Hey! You forgot me!". Go back to where you left him. In all seriousness, good luck in the search, I am sure he will turn up.

Awesome sounding build. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

Chicken Fried Venison Backstrap
lancetkenyon replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
This. I cook the back straps medium rare over a fire. The "fried steak" method is reserved for tougher, but still just as tasty, cuts. But dang if those don't look fantastic, and makes me want to fry some up this weekend! Thanks for the reminder. My arteries will hate you on Monday..... -
I have hunted both. Actually seen more deer on the West side, but there is a ton more real estate on the West side too. Biggest buck I have ever missed was a West side buck. Also a lot more hunters on the West side. But again, a lot more room to check. The burn covers both the East and West sides. And aspen undergrowth is nasty on both sides, east and west....but that is where deer like to bed and eat too. I have seen some deer while glassing the burns, but my last two bucks have been from still hunting through the nasty, stickery, thick, tangled garbage. The burn is good and bad in certain aspects. Good in the fact you can see a lot more ground with binos, across canyons, in the rolling hills, and trees do not block anything past 100-200 yards. It also makes still hunting harder, as it is a lot noisier, and deer can see YOU sooner too. Plus, no trees to hang stands in around water or trails. So archery is a lot tougher in my opinion in the burns. That is a rifle hunters terrain if you ask me. I know 12A fairly well, and the east side better than the west side because it is a smaller unit. I have spent more time on the east side, but would have no issues hunting the west side if I drew it. Deer cross the highway very quickly, back and forth. I see deer all the time crossing that road, so a buck can be in your unit one minute, and out of reach within archery range the next by simply crossing over. A few years ago, a buddy and I saw the same huge buck every evening crossing from the east to the west, but we could never find him crossing back. And we could not get a pattern on him close enough to get a shot at him. But he liked the same 1/2 mile stretch of road to cross each night. But it was always just after legal and ethical shooting light. We tried setting up on both sides, but it was like he had a GPS of where we were on a stand.

I have a Mossberg 500 in 20ga that I got when I was 14. I have shot a ton of birds/rabbits with it. When my daughters started hunting, I went to a gun show and bought another stock ($15), and an 18" barrel ($40). I cut the stock down about 3", and installed a Decelerator pad on it. That way, I can still use it by simply swapping out barrel and stock, and it is back to a full size shotgun. Took it out last dove season, and slayed them. My other 2 12ga. shotguns were being used by my brother and son-in-law, so I schooled them with the old 20ga. I highly suggest this route, as it can be used by anyone, youth or adult. You could do the same with a Remington 870, Winchester 12, etc.

You are going to pay top $$ for unfired .300 RUM brass right now. http://www.rakuten.com/retail/product.asp?sku=270376496&listingid=361023509 It might be way better to just buy some of the cheapest Remington loaded rounds and pull them apart. You can get Remington reduced recoil .300RUM and some others for like $35/box of 20. Where a box of 25 unprimed Nosler brass is $75-85....if you can even find it. I'll keep looking for you.

Lance, but what if it's a really big 2 Pointer??? It better be 26"+. I have actually seen a few 26-30+" forkies up on the Bab. It just kills me to see all the small immature bucks taken every year up there when I am fortunate enough to draw a tag. And on opening day. While I totally respect meat hunting, and understand that meat in the freezer is a true priority, you could do that in just about any unit out there other than the Kaibab, and usually a lot closer to most people's home, especially on a rifle hunt. But any deer with a bow is a trophy in my opinion. I have taken a few younger deer with my bow as well. Sure are tasty and tender.

What about when you get an elk next year? Think positive! Good luck with the sale. Bump for a good price.

Nope. Never messed up. Not once. Never shot over the back of a 34" muley at 35 yards. Never missed 3 game animals from a treestand on the same day (turkey, coyote, mule deer). Never heard the "click" as I squeezed the trigger on game (but it would have showed me I didn't flinch at least). Never forgot ammo at home. Never drew back an arrow, had it fall off a rest, and drop a broadhead across my hand while I let down while 1.5 miles from my truck and another 1.5 hour drive to a hospital, resulting in 27 stitches. Never impaled a catfish dorsal barb right through my palm while removing a stubborn hook (looking like an alternating fountain of blood from front and back when it was removed) and ruining a perfectly good fishing weekend. Never missed easy shots on birds or rabbits. Never impaled myself in the leg right next to the femoral artery while stepping over a log with a full pack. Never thought, "just one more step" and had game bust out and head for the next county (multiple times). Never just didn't buy a Mtn. Lion tag only one year, and have a lion sit within 50 yards of me for 30 minutes while I was in a treestand. Those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head not messing up on. Guess I am just lucky.

No sweat to all. I believe in helping out people, whether I know them or not. Whether it be stranded motorist (used to drive my wife insane), holding a door for a lady (or really anyone coming up behind me), helping an older person, or meeting new friends, helping someone pack out game, or driving 7 hours to help a buddy track a blood trail. I think it shows my family what is important, and I hope it rubs off on the people I help. Plus, it makes me feel good too, so a win/win. I know God wants us to help each other out, so brownie points from Him doesn't hurt either. To Brian (briant_AZ), you gave me $10 too much. I noticed when I got home at the end of the day. So I owe you $10 back. To Mike, hope you find some pigs out there, and next time, go after that buck earlier! To Brian (My Rights), I still have the camo for you, just been super busy. To Wade, glad I could be of assistance, and thanks for the photos of your buck, and the desert muley. I still shows those around.

fixed blade or mechanical broad heads ?!?
lancetkenyon replied to jgraffaz's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I'm old school. Fixed blade for me. Cut on contact blades too. I like Steel Force broadheads myself. Although I also shoot Muzzy depending on what I am after.
