camp entertainment with "the goat boys"
lancetkenyon replied to 5guyshunting's topic in The Campfire
Too cool. I keep wanting to get a couple also. For weed control along with pack duties. And to kick my dog's butts when they get out of line with the local wildlife. -
My very petite 12 year old daughter shot her bull in 2014 with my .300RUM w. a brake. No sweat. I did not let her shoot it prior to the hunt for fear of becoming recoil shy. After the shot, I asked her how it was. She said fine, but her ears were really ringing. She was prepared to shoot my .270Win w. a brake as well, that my older daughter used when she was 11 years old. Also very petite. Both of my girls have been shooting my .25-06 Ackley (no brake) since about 8 years of age with no issues. And my new 6.5 SLR w. brake is amazing to shoot. Seriously, recoils barely more than my .223.

Wow. Not much more to say. Thanks a ton. Love AZ scenic shots. Those are ALL AZ Highways worthy.

Are More Elk/Mule Deer at Lower Elevations This Time of Year?
lancetkenyon replied to EverythingWx's topic in Shed Hunting
I have found elk sheds from 5000' to 9000'. Depends on the elk and the weather. Seems like it has been really warm the last month+, I would think they might be moving back up, but I seriously have no clue. Get away from people and look for elk. -
Hunting Blind kills Trophy Elk
lancetkenyon replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Santana Outdoors Blog
Inspiring story. I have seen a few other totally blind hunters before. Amazing what they can do, and what the people who help them will do for friends and family. We should all be so lucky to have friends and family like that.- 1 reply

I had a YZ80 when I was a kid. Quick sucker that almost killed me on numerous occasions.....those were the days. Bump for a great deal.

I also have this sweet custom 1911 holster I can sweeten the deal with. Fits other models as well. Comfort is amazing. Retention of pistol...not so much.

A picture is worth 1000 words. Maybe go shoot a group and post the target. I cannot believe this has not sold yet. I bet once people hear they drew an elk tag, interest will pick up.

I finalized my load development this morning. To say I am happy would be an understatement. I will probably never be able to duplicate the results again. Now I just need to get out and stretch its legs a bunch to verify drops over the next couple months. Final load is as follows: Rem Brass Federal 210M primer 43.2gr. H4350 140 Berger HVLD 2.188" to ogive .0400" jump 2904-2912 fps .224" 3 shot group at 200 yards 68°, 28.72 baro, dead calm 0 wind Top hole is 2 shots out of 3 I also had this .554" group at 200 with a 43.0 powder charge @ 2890. But I think I will stick with 43.2gr. Weird how you can feel disappointment at a 1/2" group at 200 yards after the top group.

If you go on Berger's website, they have a twist rate calculator. You need to know BC, caliber, length of bullet, weight, velocity, altitude, temp, barrel twist, and it will let you know how well your bullet will stabilize. I have never seen the need for a .308 to have more than a 1 in 10" twist, even with the 230 Hybrids. http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/

Bull Basin Ranch, and the top strand is down now. I have seen deer do the same thing there in years past.

Not supposed to be taken seriously, even though alcoholism is a serious matter. I just laughed a ton watching the video. And others like it.

To the top. Nikon M-223 3-12x42 still up for grabs.

Amen to that.

Cool pedicle character. Amazing bull, congrats.

Judging distance without a rangefinder
lancetkenyon replied to creed's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I used to be really good at guessing yardages within 2-3 yards out to 70+. I shot a LOT of 3D tournaments, and it is probably the very best way to accurately learn the difference between 35 and 40 yards. 5 yards is a pretty big difference out past 40. I, too, use the 10 yard method. Think about 3+ steps=10 yards, and walk it off in your mind. It works well when the target is not moving, and you quickly become accustomed to 20, 30, 40, 50 yards. -
As for the .300WM vs. .300RUM debate.....you can load a .300RUM down to .300WM levels, but not vice versa.

Most bullets, placed where they need to go, will do the job. Placement is priority #1. I use a lot of match bullets for hunting, and they have never let me down. I have never used the Amax, but the SMK/Berger Hybrids work amazingly well.

Most likely they shot it and planned on returning for the head weeks later See, I would never have even thought about that. They should have staked it out, with motion cameras and/or long distance surveillance. What a bunch of diks.
