Which 6.5 for a short action?

6.5 SLR!!! 140 Berger HVLD @ 2920fps (from a 27" barrel). 24" should net you around 2850fps+/-. Or, .260 Ackley Imp. If you don't mind losing velocity, the 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5x47 Lapua are great shooters. But case capacity makes pushing the 140s a struggle to maintain 2800+ FPS. I would not want to shoot 120s either. 130s at the minimum. Retained energy and BC are my reasoning.

    5th Wheel Dovetail Trailer

I think the price is very fair. Just not a high demand trailer. Looks very nice though.

    New 6.5 SLR Build

So, as some of you know, I am building a new LR rifle for steel and hunting. It will not be a mountain gun, but I am hoping to keep it under 16#. Phoenix Custom Rifles is doing the build for me. Specs will be as follows: Rem 700 SA trued w. new recoil lug PTG bolt with M16 extractor and tactical bolt knob Bartlein 26-27" 1 in 8" 5R Match .264 barrel Remington Varmint/Sendero contour Manners T2A stock in Coyote Tan w. custom PCR paint scheme & pillar/action bedding (just ordered yesterday/shipped out today) Timney Calvin Elite trigger (adj. from 8oz to 2.5#) Badger Thruster brake Cerakote all metal (color TBD) I have already ordered brass (.243 Win Remington brass) for sizing and forming I have calls into two places for 6.5 SLR dies already I have already ordered a Badger Ordinance 20 MOA 1 piece Picatinny rail Rings TBD Maybe a Spuhr, but dang. Scope will be either a Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27x56 EBR-2 or Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 with SCR reticle. I have scrimped and saved and sold off old stuff to allow the build of this rifle. As soon as my stock comes in, I will be dropping it all off at Phoenix Custom Rifles. I am already getting itchy trigger finger just dreaming about this rifle. I can't wait.

    Face-to-Face with a Mountain Lion

Awesome story. Thank you very much for sharing it with us. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
  8. I like that show a lot. It is not just another guided rich guy hunting show with a big kill every episode. He really gets to the heart of hunting as an experience, not just killing. This was a good episode. Pretty deep sentiments and shows what time spent alone can let you experience and bring back a lot of memories.

Yes, my 13 year old daughter goes there. My older daughter graduated from there too.

    Barnes LRX bullets?

That is a dead ANYTHING (except maybe a prairie dog, but you might part his hair) at 500 yards.

Ha! That was me. Had all 4 dogs with me, but one was looking out the other side. Were you in a black FJ with stickers all over the back window including the CouesWhitetail.com across the top? I saw you too, right as we crossed Bell Rd. southbound.

    Barnes LRX bullets?

Meh. Looks like they fly about 1/2 MOA high...... Great shooting, good luck on your hunts this year.

    Best ballistic app

I have found Shooter to be much more accurate with the ability to correct velocity from actual drops at various distances, atmospheric conditions, etc. Plus the bullet library is enormous. I have made first round hits from 350 to 1500+, and second round hits at 1771 due to a missed wind call on my part. Strelok Pro and the free version are great out to 600 or so, but the difference in actual drops further out start to grow with actual known drops.

    Predictable Lion

8-9-15, 8-10-15, 8-13-15.....we better see a kill shot of you with that lion dated 8-15-15 or 8-16-15.

WTB: Remington 700 Long Action Rifle

Pawn shops are your friend. I got a beat up Rem 700 BDL in .30-06 that looked like the stock was used to beat stakes in the ground. Barrel was all scratched on the outside, but bore looked new, and bolt face too. Paid $250 for it, and tore it apart for the action only. Built my .25-06 Ackley off of it.

Shooter is my first choice. Strelok Pro, and Strelok Free are used sometimes for verification.

    OUCH

I used to shoot an overdraw back when they became popular. I dropped an arrow off the rest during a javalina hunt, and pushed the broadhead across my hand when I let down. Cut from the top of my thumb down to the first knuckle of my pointer finger. Being 2 miles from the truck made me nervous. I was bleeding like a stuck pig, which is what I was tracking when I did it. I found the pig, gutted it and packed it back to the truck. Called my wife on the way home and had her meet me at the hospital to get the pig back to the house and in the freezer while I was waiting for the Dr. 27 stiches.

    Article about shed "poachers"

There was a show on cable called "Shed Wars" briefly a couple months ago. I was really looking forward to it...until I saw the first episode, then the second and vowed not to support it again. People driving ATVs across meadows and wilderness areas, flying planes to scout herds and chase them, etc. There were mostly ethical shed hunters, but the husband/wife team thoroughly pissed me off every time I saw them.

Check out this guy's score ...

Too bad someone lost their hard earned trophies if that was an individual.
