    Yep.
  4. Terry, Just want to give you a big thanks on the new family members. The two pups (GSP/Walker Coonhound mix) I picked up on Saturday will be great additions to the household/hunting seasons to come. My wife and kid already are completely hooked. My two other dogs surprised me, as they responded completely opposite of what I thought. My older GSP (11 years), who I thought would totally ignore them, is like a proud new papa. He is very protective of them, and quite patient. He warmed right up to them from the minute I brought them home. My 4 year old GSP, who I thought would think he had two new pay toys was actually pretty shy with them. Avoiding them for the fist 24 hours completely, but is warming up to them quickly now. The dark one is "Ruger". The B&W is "Wesson" (like Smith & Wesson or Dan Wesson) The ride home The first 5 minutes Instant buddies Chow time (those pups WOLF down the food) "Playing dead" Nap time (they do a LOT of this)
  5. If you only plan on dove & quail, rabbit/squirrel, a 20ga. will be fine. If you ever plan on adding duck/goose/turkey/coyotes/bobcat to the list, go for the 12ga. A 20ga. will get a duck/goose/turkey, but the 12ga. is much better for the bigger birds with a 3" magnum shell, more shot, and bigger payload. Some even shoot a 3 1/2" shell. I have never need that for duck/goose/turkey, but nice to have for the late season high fliers when using steel shot. You can get reduced light target loads for the 12ga. that are equal to a 20ga. if you plan on a LOT of shooting too.

Leica 900 cfr rangefinder or Swarovski rangefinder

The Swaro will get you past 1500 yards. I have compared it side by side with my Leica 1600B in the field, and anything within 1500 yards is right there with my Leica. Great, great rangefinder, and great price on this one. Buy it.

    Vortex Rangefinder

They will range a deer or tree out to 650-700 or so under good conditions, a little further than what the booklet states.

    Danner Gila- Sz 11

I have a pair, and probably have 100+ mountain miles on them. Love them. Great price! With medium weight wool socks, they are good to at least 8°F. At least my feet were warm last week.
  12. I'll take the Guide DCS jacket & beanie. Sure wish the pants were medium (32) too.

    .300RUM Upgrades

I have determined the .300RUM pushing 215 Berger HVLDs is WAY too much for coyotes...... @ 100 yards, there were coyote pieces 40+' behind him, 8' up in a tree, and a football sized exit. Strong quartering on, bullet entered behind front leg, exited.....everywhere. @ 300-310 yards, a little better. Baseball sized exit. Bullet entered a bit low, just behind front leg. Coyote ran 100 yards with no heart left inside the body cavity. Blood trail was impressive, and Ronnie Milsap could have followed it.
  14. A few update photos. Pups are getting big. Waiting to go for a ride around the arena. They love elk legs.
  15. While I could not agree more, there is really only one or two that fit the price range of $450. But I love mine (not in the price range).
  16. For every shot of my pellet gun, I take 100 shots with my shotgun. Pellet guns are great for backyard Eurasian dove shooting. Other than that, they sit and collect dust. I really wouldn't suggest a single shot. Just my opinion, even though they do make you a better shot in the long run. But I rarely take more than one shot at game, but nice to have a second (or even third) if you are shooting fast flying birds or multiples. Even for sporting clays, it is needed. All of these are at or under $450: Pump: Rem 870 Mossberg 500 Benelli Nova Field Winchester SXP Field Weatherby PA-08 Stoeger P-350 O/U: Stoeger Condor (Field or Longfowler) These actually got really good reviews.

starting point for jump, 7mm rem mag

I always start touching lands, .0400", .0800", .120" jumps. If it is a hunting rifle, make sure you can reliably feed from a magazine. My .300RUM has a huge jump to meet mag length, something like .180" jump, and shoots phenomenally.

    Youth pack?

Taylor uses a Eberlestock X2 pack. She has used it for the last 2 years. I still carry most of the weight, but she can pack her own snacks, water, and a few essentials like a book, gloves, beanie, etc. And she can pack out some elk pieces to boot.

Free spotter to any youth hunter

Guess I will have to go through my hunting closet/room before I put up all of my stuff and see what I can add to the list here. Great job guys.

    Powder for sale

    Price?
  21. Maybe two, if you are very lucky. Depends on your luck. Seems like I draw two in a few years. Then wait 8 or so to draw again. I have yet to draw a late hunt up there, even with 10 BPs.

    Bergers FAILED me horribly

My .300RUM has shot 3 animals with the 210 HVLD this week. Two coyotes and a bull elk. First coyote at about 100 yards, and there were pieces of him 40+' behind him, and 8' up in a tree. Football size exit. Second coyote at 300-310 yards. Entered just a touch low, and coyote ran about 100 yards. Baseball size exit, with absolutely no heart remaining inside the body cavity. Elk was shot at 214 yards, shot was too far back, about 6" behind last rib, elk was slightly quartering away. Exit was about 2" across, we would find out liver was liquified. Elk hunched and started walking slowly away when second round Texas heart shot was fired. Elk dropped like a sack of hammers. Shattered hip join the and pelvis, and continued on into vitals. We gutless methodEd the elk, so no bullet recovered. I am pleased with the performance.

    28 Nosler

For a HUNTING rifle, it would be great, and should last for quite a while. If you plan on shooting high volume, you aren't shooting the 28 Nosler for that anyway.
  25. We saw 85 bucks in October, with 12 shooters bucks, 4 or 5 monsters. You were definitely in the wrong spot if you saw so few deer.
