    No success in 22 but..

Petroglyphs are all over. I know of tons of sites that seem off the beaten path to modern day people. Nice find.

Trimming the meplat would do couple things. First and foremost, when you trim all of the bullets to have the same ogive to meplat length, you are trueing the Ballistic Coefficient. You lose about 2% of BC, but at distance (800+), a true BC across all bullets will help minimize different drops due to that variation. It doesn't make a huge difference, about 1/4moa of drop @ 800 yards. But think of it this way, at 800 yards, you are looking at about 2". At 1000, 2.5". That is just due to the loss in BC. Add to that difference, if you have bullets that have different BCs by 3% due to different lengths, meplat differences, meplats that are deformed, etc., you could be talking 5" difference in drops at 1000 yards easily. To eliminate that variation is a huge bonus in accuracy before any other factor is considered. Also, having a trued up point f the bullet might help with drift a bit, and it sure can't hut accuracy having every bullet with the same meplat either. Second, it allows a slightly larger (maybe going from .002" to .007") hollow point to help in expansion on game. I have used the .264" (6.5mm) 142 SMK on coyotes, and they have the same pointed meplat as the .284 (7mm) 183 SMK, and the .308" 210 SMK as well, and the 142s put a hurting on coyotes. So I do not know if the meplat needs trimmed for hunting purposes, but it won't hurt. I have used SMKs on many animals with fantastic results. I know Sierra states they are "not intended for hunting", but they work. From the .224" 69 SMK on coyotes/javelina/rabbits/mule deer doe (I have given some out to numerous people with kids hunting with a .223), to a .257" 100SMK on javelina/mule deer (several)/coyote @ 1327 yards, .264" 142 SMK on coyotes, .308" 175 SMK on bull elk, .308" 210 SMK on coyotes. All were DRT.

Hunting stereotypes- Best thing I've seen in a while.

Posted here before, but I have watched it about 30 times, and laugh every time. Thanks for bringing it back to light. I know a lot of those guys. I am: "The Field Announcer", and "Mr. Hardcore" Oh, and DEFINITELY the "White liar gun buyer"!

    Shed hunting pointers

Hike. Get away from roads. Find where the elk are at this time of year. I have found elk sheds in the same unit from 5000' to 7800' elevations.

    World Record Mule Deer

I'd shoot it in a heartbeat. Anyone that says they wouldn't is a liar. Or a card carrying member of PETA. I couldn't care less if it was an auction tag or a game ranch buck. Honor the deer, not the perceived controversy. If I had that kind of money, I would be all over it. Good for the hunter for working hard and earning the privilege to be able to get the tag and the deer. I hope I am still able to hunt at that age.

    Parallax or Side Focus Importance

Love the parallax on the side or top like my Kahles. Not a fan of the adjustable objective on the bell housing. Much easier to access than reaching to the front of the scope.

    7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build

I got out to test the 183 SMKs this weekend. Nothing spectacular, but not too shabby either. .54" to .68" groups with every load I tried, so some potential. Good speeds too. I have a meplat trimmer on the way, so it will be interesting to see how they open up once I find out how far back I need to trim them. Setting up @ 100 to test. Loads ready to test. The L to R differences was me dialing to try and center my temp scope.

    CALIFORNIA LIONS EATING PETS

I just cant figure out how a state full of so many brilliant and enlightened people continues to run at such a huge deficit every year?! Id have thought that by this point they'd have already fixed their own problems and would be hard at working helping to fix neighboring states.

    CALIFORNIA LIONS EATING PETS

Since Kommiefornia banned lion hunting, the only time permits are given out are for "problem" lions. meaning usually the take of livestock and/or domesticated animals. So yeah, of course the cats will have domesticated pets in their stomachs. Again, money spent on a survey by Kommiefornia with very predictable results. Residents taxes at work to research something that is already known due to the fact that the reason they were killed is because they were taking the animals in question. Duh!

    Muzzle Break

I was wondering this too. Also I would like to put a badger thruster break on my new 7mm. I don't like the look of breaks that are real bulky on the barrel. I have just the stock barrel( not a bull barrel). Would a gun smith be able to turn it so that it matches the barrel more? Or does it take a bull barrel to do that?Try the APA Micro Bastard brake. They work extremely well (I have two Badger Thruster brakes on other rifles), and can be turned down by a good gunsmith. Phoenix Custom Rifles did my install on my 7RM. Barrel diameter at the muzzle is just barely larger than a Remington Magnum contour. It is right at .670". Remington Magnum sporter contour is .660" at the muzzle.

Which LR scope do I buy?

Since we still don't have a price range from the OP, hard to give an answer. Vortex Viper HS LR are good for the money, but nowhere near the Nightforce NXS, which is nowhere near the Kahles K624i, which is closer, but still not a Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25x56, which is close but still not a Hensoldt. $800, $2200, $3000, $4500, $7000. Leaps and bounds difference in price, but the higher you get, the less noticeable differences to the masses. But the differences are definitely there if you spend a LOT of time behind the rifle.

    Warm weather

I am in the telecom business. All public safety & government work. No carrier (cell companies) work. I am not needing an apprentice right now, but if you have any experience in construction, there are always job openings somewhere. Most people in this business need to be able to travel though, one of the necessary evils of the job. I know thereare a few others on here in the trade too.

    Parallax or Side Focus Importance

I can give you the Webster's Dictionary version, then try to explain in my own words how it works and greatly effects accuracy. Parallax: The apparent displacement of an object observed by a change in position of the observer. A good way, (the best way in my opinion), is to look at a target, even at 100 yards, and with the reticle in focus and not touching the rifle or scope at all, move your head up and down or side to side. You must have a very stable rest to do this. This is best done on higher magnifications. If the crosshairs appear to move on the target, your parallax is not adjusted correctly. So what parallax adjustment does is ensure the cross hairs and target are in the same "plane". So when you move your position of observation, like with a slightly different cheek weld, or going from prone to sitting or offhand, the reticle remains stationary. Now if your parallax is not adjusted, and you are shooting 500 yards, and you are not consistent with your eye placement behind the scope, your reticle is moving on target, and you cannot aim at the same spot, even though it appears you do have the same point of aim. Making inches or more of difference at actual point of aim and point of impact without you even knowing it. But you must be careful. Just because a scope's parallax adjustment might have graduated numbers for yardage, everyone's eyes are different, and scope tolerances can vary. So 400 might be 350 or 450 yards easily. A lot of scopes have a range where the parallax will be set, say from 500 to 600, and some are very touchy, only giving you a small margin of error. It is such a habit of mine to check parallax, that I think I do it almost every time I get behind the scope. Even if I have it set and I am shooting at the same target distance for multiple shots. For hunting, I usually leave mine set on about 200, because of the possibility of quick closer shots. A target at 100 yards will have less shift and be acceptable shift in POA/POI on a game animal.

    Parallax or Side Focus Importance

I agree, in my opinion, very important for shots over 300 or so. Do you know how to check to verify parallax is eliminated once you have a scope with parallax adjustment? Just wondering if you have never used a scope with parallax adjustment, how much it matters at longer shots.

    7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build

It has been a while, but I think I was something like 3160fps for a 175 SGK w. 77 grains of RL22 in my 7STW Sendero. It had a short throat, so I could not seat the bullets out at all. SAAMI COAL was about it, so the lighter bullets actually worked and shot much better. I actually ditched the heavy bullets and shot 140s at 3450fps. I only ever shot one deer with it before I sold it. A big 3x3, about 25" wide but really tall.
