    .300RUM Upgrades

Finalized my load development today. Went out with a few guns to sight in, finish load development, and just get some time behind the guns. Now all I have to do is draw an elk tag!!! Shot everything at 200 today. Now I need to go stretch its legs and see what these will do out to 300-1700+ at my desert spot. Here is my full power load, 215 Hybrid @ 3100fps. Right at .650" @ 200 yards. Here are my light loads for Taylor to shoot. 210 HVLD @ 2956fps. Just under 1/2" @ 200.

    7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build

I think I finalized my loads finally. Went out today with the new S&B 3-20x50 mounted up, sighted it in very easily as tracking is perfect. I only shot at 200 today, but I think I am good on load development (except I might be getting some 175 NABLRs to try out too). Brown Santa brought me a present this week. Locking turrets, especially windage, will be nice on a hunting rig that rides in a pack a lot. Mounted up in Badger Ordinance "Max 50" rings on a Seekins 20MOA Picatinny rail, Vortex Lowpro level, & Tenebraex covers Shooting at 200 yards today These are the 180 Hybrids @ 2975fps, 1" orange dot, so about 3/4" 3 shot group, or about .375moa. (These were targets left by the previous shooter, so the black dot is not covering my shot). These are the 183 SMKs at 2975fps and 180 Hybrid light loads at 2860fps for my kids to shoot. I shot these two groups about 2 hours apart, but pretty similar results. Not exactly sure why they are stringing a bit, but both groups do it. Not bad @ 200, about 3/4" group, or .375MOA. Got home and took a couple family photos. Front to Back: 7Rem Mag, .25-06 AI, 6.5 SLR, .300RUM. L-R: 6.5 SLR w. 140 HVLD, .25-06 AI w. 115 HVLD, 7Rem Mag w. 183 SMK, .300RUM w. 215 Hybrid

    Cleaning out Reloading shed(updated count)

PM Sent on some 7mm 175 NABLR.
  5. That would be interesting to know if you can bring it back. I recently found out that I can't bring any turkey meat back from my Goulds hunt next month unless it is cooked and has a wing attached. So are you going o roast it with the wing sticking out of the oven???

    Pulled the trigger!

Awesome rifle! What bullets are you planning on running.
  10. My dogs know key words and sight commands too. And the new pups take the cues from the older boys, and have learned them too. Walk to the gun cabinet? Dogs go nuts. Get any gun out, or gun case? Dogs go raped ape crazy. "Bird", "dove", "hunt", "find"? Dogs go into search mode. "Feed" or "hungry"? Dogs go nuts and immediately head out the doggie door and one keeps vigilant watch with his head stuck inside. Wear camo? Dogs start to vibrate. If I look up? Dogs go into aerial search mode. Grab keys and go into the back yard? Dogs know I am heading to the arena and go nuts. Head to my truck and leave the carport door open? Dog all stand inside the door and vibrate. Put a sheet on my back seat? Dogs go nuts at the door.

    2017 Mexico trip help

Awesome avatar. Love seeing family shots.
  13. Yeah, very good shooting and accurate rifle. I am actually way more impressed with the 1800 yard shots than the 748.

    What bases and rings?

I go high quality bases and rings. I use either Seekins (on 4 rifles) or Badger Ordinance (on 2 rifles) Picatinny 20 MOA bases. Same with rings. Seekins (on 2 scopes) or Badger Ordinance (on 1 scope). I also have a set of TPS 30mm rings. Using Picatinny bases and corresponding rings allow quick and very easy swapping of scopes between rifles if the need arises. I prefer 30mm or 34mm scope tubes. Not many higher end, high magnification scopes use a 1" tube anymore. Even most of the mid range scopes use at least a 30mm tube now.

    Savage misfire question

Happened to my cousin this past elk season in his Ruger M77 too. Oil in the bolt & cold weather (20°) caused it. It had never happened before, and his rifle shot fine after the hunt with warmer temps. He now cleaned his bolt thoroughly. I always clean my firing pin/bolt assembly of all lubricant before a cold weather hunt. Luckily, it happened when he was trying to scare me with 30 minutes left in the hunt, so we caught it. 26 minutes later, he used my rifle to take his first ever elk with 4 minutes of legal light left.
  16. Almost ready to pull the trigger on my new scope for the 7RM build I completed, but I am having a crazy hard time deciding which of the last 2 choices to go with. March FFP 3-24x52 w. FML-1 reticle Pros: Lightweight(24.5oz), higher top end mag range (24x), better reticle, shorter, low profile turrets, 34mil elevation, 13.2" long, about 23 mils of vertical adjustment w. 20moa rail, $2971 Cons: Narrower FOV (35') @ 3x, no locking turret, no 2nd rotation indicator, 5 year warranty (but most claims corrected free, or small fee if damaged by user) S&B PM II 3-20x50 (still haven't decided which reticle I would go with, I am not ecstatic with any of them for various reasons) Maybe H2CMR or H59, but that is a busy reticle. Pros: It is a S&B, wider FOV (42.6' @ 3x), best glass out there, locking turrets available, perfect tracking, 2nd rotation indicator, Cons: 2 year written warranty (but almost all claims corrected free of charge anyway), heavier (32.4oz), not thrilled with reticle choices, no low profile turrets, 15.1" long, about 19 mils of vertical adjustment w. 20moa rail, $3400. Does anyone have either of these scopes I could come and look through to compare with my Kahles? I will drive to you in the valley somewhere. I am sure the S&B is crazy clear, but I really would like to look through a March before pulling the trigger on one. The scope will pull double duty on my AR when not in use on the 7RM. So it will see a couple thousand rounds a year I would assume.

    Euro HD 12x50

I have the 10x42s and 15x56s. I use them all the time, for work sometimes, and play all the time. Probably had a few hundred hours behind them last year easily. No eye fatigue after 10-12 hours. Bump for a great deal.
  22. I absolutely HATE it when I order something online with no indication the item is out of stock, and then get an email the next day, AFTER they have charged my CC, that the item is out of stock and backordered for a duration of time that is unacceptable. In this case, end of May projected ship date. So I cancelled my order, and called up a guy about 20 minutes ago that I know at www.eurooptic.com and got it for even cheaper. He had one in stock, and I already received a shipping confirmation. If anyone needs optics (or accessories, rifles, etc.), try Jason Baney at www.europtic.com. I can get you his desk number and he will personally handle your order. Great guy, and he also runs a charity shooting tournament.

    BOGPOD Reviews

I have a Bog Pod Bipod. I broke it after about 4 uses. It was more my fault than the equipment. I was trying to spread the legs out, and didn't take the hint that it was fully opened. I was till surprised though. It is still serviceable, but I have to be careful when I spread the legs on it or one falls out.

    Elk hammer

As much preparation, shooting, reloading, research, testing, and long range time I put in, I have never shot any big game at what some consider a chip shot, while others wouldn't even consider. Varmints are another story. But I believe both my equipment and I would be fully capable to double that distance or more if the need arose. I think there is a need to PRACTICE more than anything if you plan on shooting long range. Being able to put the bullet where it needs to go is priority #1. Whether that means high BC accurate LR bullets, or just getting closer.
  25. I just pulled the trigger on the S&B 3-20x50 w. H2CMR. Now all I have to do is get the package before my wife sees it.....
