I shoot 4" feathers. Ring wing, hard right helical. Like a fast twist barrel, tjey stabilize a broadhead very quickly. I waterproof them too, and never had an issue. Also, feathers are lighter than vanes.

High country or Northern game seem to drop eaier too. The desert bucks seem to start growing lter, and so they shed later from what I have seen. And mature game shed before the younger bucks/bulls.

I helped a few different guys out last year with spots on the condition that they not share that info with others. I am selective on who I share my hard fought places with.

Hard to pack out an elk with your wife thrown over your shoulder. Good call on not escalating the bronchitis into pneumonia.

I have seen bull elk like that in the velvet. I would guess either broke the pedicle off the skull (that must have hurt), or some genetic abnormality. I found an elk antler one time that had the pedicle and a big chunk of skull attached. It was a big antler too, wish I could have found the guy that broke him off!

Don't screw it down tight. Then you can slide it back and forth.... I would hope when shooting from a vehicle you would be shooting at a fairly stationary target, and not need a lot of adjustment for a moving target once you get it in the scope. Or watch some poaching sting videos to see how the pros do it.

What about the clamp on style window mounts for binos with a threaded adapter, then screw on a saddle rest?

I love the 69 SMK for game. Not as explosive as a V-Max, but I haven't had a single one get away when I put one in the boiler room. 0-40 yards max from my experience. Heck, I had a coyote run 100+ yards when a .300RUM left a baseball sized exit where his heart used to be. Never had anything run that far after a 69 SMK hit them in the same place.

69 SMK 25.0 Varget CCI BR-4 Seated to max mag length -.070". I get 3033 fps from my 24" 1 in 9" twist and sub-half MOA. It has taken a bunch of yotes, javelina, and jackrabbit galore. The same round has taken a mule deer doe for a friend's kid. We shoot steel to 850 all the time, even 1000 on occasion.
