Rifle Stock Painting
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have had one of mine done for about 4 years now, riding in trucks, packs, ahoulders on numerous hunts per year, and it is holding up pretty well. Another one for about a year and a half that rides around with me all over in case of coyotes, and has been on a few 10 day hunts riding in a pack and shouldered, and get taken out about 20-30 times a year to the range that still looks almost new. My AR goes with me to work all over the southwest, and the only real area of wear is the crown area, from riding around in my truck in an open case and bouncing around, and from the solvents during cleaning more than anything. And that doesn't even have the clear coats applied. A lot depends on how you treat it. Drop it in the rocks or rub it on a buckle, and it is goi g to scratch of course. Heck, I even scratched some Cerakote off of a few guns by neglect. -
Rifle Stock Painting
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Just finished a test stock for one of my rifles. I am going to be doing this one on a black action, stainless barreled rig with a McMillan Game Scout stock. This one uses 5 colors of grey and 2 different blacks. -
I don't mind wealthy well-known celebrity hunters bringing positive attention to our sport for the masses to see. Even though I am proud to be one, not all of us are rednecks. If I had the money, I would be doing it too. Not fair trying to say someone has no business being out there hunting big bears when apparently they have the means to do it, fully guided and outfitted or not. He has as much right as anyone.

Great price for a fantastic O/U. I absolutely love mine. Bird slaying machine. Lightweight, light recoiling, smooth and fast swing, great balance.

Yeah? I wish I could afford to follow that "trend".

Bring me a stock. The only ones I have to paint at the moment are two of my own...which always take a back set to other work I am doing. -

First load. Should I throw this out?
lancetkenyon replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Funny. I got a notification on this thread and just saw this post. I am actually doing load development on a member's rifle right now. -
Entered left shoulder, exited behind left shoulder. Did it hit inside the right shoulder blade and bounce back through? Must have been a heck of a wound chanel making a 175° turn!

Here we go again. Scarface is dead
lancetkenyon replied to AZ8's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
25 years old, emaciated, starving, would not have lived through another year, shot outside the park. Probably got too close to someone's camp. Maybe "suicide by trigger happy camper"? -
My Mother-in-law had one, a pacemaker and defibrillator, implanted late last year. Hers is the type with leads in the heart. She had about 20% of her heart functioning correctly prior to surgery. The doctors can actually monitor her heart remotely, and can tell when the pacemaker has to kick in, and if the defibrillator would go off. I believe they said battery life was about 10 years? I can't recall exactly. Currently, she is doing very well. Pretty active for a 68(?) year old woman. They are actually a very routine surgery nowadays. I am really sorry to hear about our son, but the miracles of medicine are amazing. He should still be able to live a long and active life. Prayers going out for your family, you, the doctors, and friends for healing, wisdom, and comfort.

Cases getting stuck in chamber
lancetkenyon replied to 257wby's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My first impression, before others chimed in, is rough chamber too. -
Way to stick with it! A good frame pack would have been your best friend in this case.

These are a few of the bullets I have tried, and some I am currently using. If you get a good 190+ gr. in .308" or 165+ gr. in 7mm, that would work on game, I would put them through their paces for you. Or if you want to send me a couple of the 150s, I will see how they do at 3500+fps... Considering I pushed a 175 SMK to 3380, I think I could get those up to 3500.

Well....the story is from World News Daily Report......so you know it is fake.

I am in need of a 100 count box of 7mm 160 Nosler Accubonds. Anyone have any they would be willing to part with? I am working up a load for a rifle, and I am almost done with load development and then I need to load up the 100 rounds, and I can't find any 160 NABs in stock anywhere. Let me know what you have if you want to sell 100 of them. Thanks.

My rifle. There is a thread on here with all of the build specs. Rem 700BDL LA, 26" Bartlein 1 in 8.5" twist #3 fluted. Scope mounting height is 1.82" over bore. 200 yard zero is about .2" high, and refelcted in my calculations. Atmospheric conditions: 28.22" baro, 70°F, 50% humidity, 0 wind. Spin drift utilized, powder is temp stable. I have confirmed my Shooter app is accurate to within 1" out to 680 yards with this load so far, as I just built the rifle about 2 months ago. I will be stretching it's legs in the near future to at least 1370 yards when I get a free weekend. Considering that all of my other rifles have been within 2" of elevation at 1000+ yards with accurate inputs, and I have verified this info to 680 already, I am pretty confident of the projected results at 1000. Not many of my calculations are general susumptions, they are field verified actual drops. Where I shoot to 2200, the conditions are 27.14"-26.90" baro dependent on weather fronts. Temps vary ny day of course. But 1770 is shot quite often during load testing and verification. Just haven't stretched my 7RM to that distance yet. But I will. At 682, calculated drop for 680 was 3.2MIL & 78.2" drop. Impact group center was 1.05" low for 3 shots with a group size of 2.8xx". Not my beat, but not terrible during load development either.

7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Pretty much refined my loads. I only have photos of the 183 SMK load, but it should work fine. The 180 Hybrid actually shoos just about the same. 183 SMK @ 2985
