New 7mm Rem Mag Load Development
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Please elaborate on your annealing process if you don't mind. Do you use a machine or just a torch? I've been spinning necks in a propane flame with the case sitting a deep well socket in a drill... but always looking for a better way. Thanks, Mike If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I do the same thing, except I use MAP gas. About twice as hot, so it heats the necks faster and you don't get as much transfer down the body. Even though the deep socket acts as a heat sink. -

I anneal all brass. Virgin, and after every firing. Only virgin brass I don't anneal is Lapua, as it is already annealed from Lapua. As for my ladder test, I load one round ln each charge weight, bullets always seated touching the lands, and shoot them, from lowest to highest charge weights and marking target after each shot. If you get signs of pressure, stop. When you shoot, your barrel flexes. You should get a node high and low, meaning where the bullet is exiting at either the bottom or top of the barrel whip. The barrel pauses for a millisecond, andbyou will get 2 to 4 together that group well, meaning your barrel likes that range of charge qeight and velocity span. It gives you a bit of wiggle room for velocity differences to still leave the varrel at the right time. Enhancing accuracy potetial. -

There are 5 different sizes, depending on what cartridge you are shooting. The most common that cover probably 80% are the C375, C400, & C425. Technically called a Headspace gauge. http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Hornady-Lock-N-Load-Headspace-Bushing/productDetail/Reloading-Accessories/prod9999002234/cat100166 -

Worked into the night, and again this morning. Base of khaki Added some dark taupe and nutmeg Then some oregano and sage Got up early this morning and masked the patterns and hit it with some nutmeg, warm caramel and light brown speckles. After a few hours, I masked the blocks I wanted to leave brown, and hit rhe others with some sage, oregano, and forest speckles. Let it dry for an hour and stripped all the masking and hit it with 3 coats of matte clear. -
Yep. Euro vote here too. I compared a lot of the top brands for hours before I made my choices in both 10s & 15s.

Starting a new one today for a member here. Started out as a brand new Bell & Carlson Medalist green w. black web for a Savage. Prepped the stock, cleaned it real well, and hit it with 3 light coats of primer. 1st coat 3rd coat I hope to get the base colors down tonight depending on the primer drying completely and the wind tonight. -

DB post of the week? If you meant a different Dave, then I apologize in advance. -
200" mulies are rare, even on the strip. People think there is a 180" buck behind every tree. Not true. The guides flock to the Strip in search of the big boys, because of the mythical proportions that do grow there. Best gene pools, good habitat, glassable terrain, and low tag numbers mean the opportunity for one of the record book bucks. But just like every other unit, if uou spend 1000s of man hours and hundreds of miles of boot leather, you will find a big animal. The amount of cameras are anothwr way of patterning the bucks. And the guides have the time and money to do this, where the average Joe Hunter doesn't. Can a DIY hunter tag out a 200+" buck? Of course, with luck and skills. But it is far more likely that a person with 10 other guys looking and patterning that deer for months will have a much better opportunity. Pay to play. Whether with cash or time and pain. Nothing, not even luck, compares to experience. Do I think there are bucks tbat never get seen up there? Not many, but probably a few.

I have only been once for some unknown reason. A weekend trip with some buddies when they got out after Desert Storm. My best smallie was from the Black, about a 5#er. I thought I snagged in a small pool, until my rod doubled over. Ultralight gar is a blast with medium fish. Hiked in, stayed 3 days, caught about 40 fish. Saw deer in the river, elk, and a black bear about 30' from me at first light. My Dad had a friend who passed away on that river. Not sure if he got killed by the bear, or the bear found him sometime after he passed away in his tent. Either way, they found some of his remains about 2 weeks after he didn't come home. Sad, but true, story.

Man, they are going fast now. -
I have a different set I use in my reloading room. Keeps everything neat and organized. These would be great for someone with the need for separate storage like that.

Why you gotta post stuff like this during work hours....too touching.

So who all is going this year? My 13 year old daughter, Taylor, and I are going. If 8 others are attending, maybe we could get a CWT table together? I am sure elkhunteraz (CWT member & the president of AZ Deer Association) could get us all together.
