I also have a brand new rifle in my possession in a new wildcat cartridge I am about to start load development on. Rifle specs: R700 LA, 28" #3 fluted Benchmark 1 in 8" twist, B&C Medalist "Weatherby" style stock, Timney CE trigger. Will have a APA Micro Bastard brake on it in the future. Cartridge is yet unnamed, but based off a 6.5-.270 Ackley Imp. 40°. I can contact the builder for price if you are interested. But my 6-24x56 Kahles does not come with it!

Those bastards! How dare they talk about shooting and hunting in a gun store!!! What is this world coming to gentlemen? I realize that most of your posts are playing "Devil's Advocate" or just to stir the pot, and I appreciate it most of the time. But you have to admit, whether you post it publicly or not, that the comment by he salesman was ignorant. Any rifle, even a $10,000 custom rifle in .338 Lapua with $7,000 optic won't make "Anyone capable of killing an elk at 1000 yards". The rifle certainly would be, but not every SHOOTER is capable.

If it shoots as good as my .260 Rem that Todd built, buy a freezer. You will need it ro hold all the meat you will be bringing home. Mine shoots sub 1/4" groups with 140 HVLD & 95 V-Max hand loads. -
Awesome, just awesome.

Had to rescue some Trail Cams from Wildfire
lancetkenyon replied to TwoOneEight Photography's topic in Trail Cameras
It is ALWAYS hunting season. Lions, coyotes, etc. So there never is an "off season" to limit camera usage to adhere to "in season only" guideline, if there was one imposed. -

Do you have a source for thos information? I would love to know for sure one way or the other. I have seen trail cams up already this year, or still up from last year. Someone is going to have some funny photos on two cameras I found in 7W if they are still functioning.... -
Always.

Replacing an Accutrigger
lancetkenyon replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Never in a Savage, but I love my Timney triggers. I have a 510, and two Calvin Elites. Also a Shilen Match. I will be buying my third Calvin Elite soon for my last remaining factory trigger which is set at 3#. I like the Timney a lot better than a Jewell HVR personally. -
New 7mm Rem Mag Load Development
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I figure weight sorting, like primer pocket uniforming and flash hole deburring, is a one time deal, and can't hurt. I don't know if I can shoot good enough to tell a difference, but eliminating some variables can't be a bad thing. And even if all of those minor itwms add up to a .05" difference, a one time step is a benefit in the long run. I still haven't trimmed meplats yet. -
Got the new muzzlebreak and ladder test on the 300 win mag
lancetkenyon replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Nice! I have a bunch of rounds loaded up for a brand new wildcat and rifle, but couldn't force myself to brave the heat either. -
Prayers sent. It has been a rough year around here.

New 7mm Rem Mag Load Development

Please elaborate on your annealing process if you don't mind. Do you use a machine or just a torch? I've been spinning necks in a propane flame with the case sitting a deep well socket in a drill... but always looking for a better way. Thanks, Mike If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I do the same thing, except I use MAP gas. About twice as hot, so it heats the necks faster and you don't get as much transfer down the body. Even though the deep socket acts as a heat sink. -
New 7mm Rem Mag Load Development
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I anneal all brass. Virgin, and after every firing. Only virgin brass I don't anneal is Lapua, as it is already annealed from Lapua. As for my ladder test, I load one round ln each charge weight, bullets always seated touching the lands, and shoot them, from lowest to highest charge weights and marking target after each shot. If you get signs of pressure, stop. When you shoot, your barrel flexes. You should get a node high and low, meaning where the bullet is exiting at either the bottom or top of the barrel whip. The barrel pauses for a millisecond, andbyou will get 2 to 4 together that group well, meaning your barrel likes that range of charge qeight and velocity span. It gives you a bit of wiggle room for velocity differences to still leave the varrel at the right time. Enhancing accuracy potetial. -

There are 5 different sizes, depending on what cartridge you are shooting. The most common that cover probably 80% are the C375, C400, & C425. Technically called a Headspace gauge. http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Hornady-Lock-N-Load-Headspace-Bushing/productDetail/Reloading-Accessories/prod9999002234/cat100166 -

Rifle Stock Painting

Worked into the night, and again this morning. Base of khaki Added some dark taupe and nutmeg Then some oregano and sage Got up early this morning and masked the patterns and hit it with some nutmeg, warm caramel and light brown speckles. After a few hours, I masked the blocks I wanted to leave brown, and hit rhe others with some sage, oregano, and forest speckles. Let it dry for an hour and stripped all the masking and hit it with 3 coats of matte clear. -
Yep. Euro vote here too. I compared a lot of the top brands for hours before I made my choices in both 10s & 15s.
