lancetkenyon replied to KaibabHunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I know a few guys who shoot them with great results. I handload everything, so I couldn't say with firsthand knowledge. -

Nosler Trophy Grade or HSM. -
High BC and high SD bullets. Low recoil. Good speed for like cartridges in larger calibers. Multitude of component choices. Relatively cheap to shoot vs. the bigger magnums. Tried and true performance for a long time in European cartridges. The newest fad here in the US.

Looking for an AC guy in the west valley
lancetkenyon replied to SpotNStalk's topic in Classified Ads
Well, the dishonest ones or lousy workmanship companies don't stick around doing our work. For every 1 good contractor we use, we have gone through 10. But tje good ones we find, we stay pretty loyal to them. I am in no way saying that they are all good. But saying they are all bad is not the case. Just like any other profession out there except maybe career politicians. -

Wow. That is a bold blanket statement. I know plenty of honest HVAC contractors and workers. -

cheek weld riser suggestions
lancetkenyon replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I use the Tactical Works, Inc. "TAC OPS" packs. I have 3 of them. They are a touch more than some others, but fantastic quality. $35 each. Has a zippered pouch and loops, or no loops if you choose. They come in Black, Coyote brown, OD green, or Multicam. Right and left hand options too. Nice comfortablr suede cheek pad. -
Using quality factory ammo, yes, this rifle should shoot very well. Nosler Trophy Grade, HSM Gold, etc.

Man I love those pre-Super Duty F250s. How can he afford to sell it after dumping $8K in it? Beautiful F250.

No Coues for me, but for mulies, either .260 Rem, 6.5 SLR, .25-06 AI, 7RM, or .300RUM. Just depends on conditions, terrain, and distance.

He already has a 7-08 and a .270. Plenty for elk and deer. Maybe take your budget and do some upgrades on the .270. Stock and bedding, trigger, even a rebarrel to .280 AI. -
Foam pad for hiking, or fold out stool when near the truck. Throw the pad on a stump or rock for added elevation and comfort. Or my $50K elevated hunting stool...

My opinion on muzzle brakes: I love them for reducing recoil. While the Vias is a great brake for reducing recoil, I will never again own a brake that has bottom ports. When shooting prone, or even from a sitting position, they kick a lot of sand/dust/rocks/grit up. I much prefer a brake with side ports only. Like the Badger Thruster, APA Bastard line, and many others. They are loud! Even one shot while hunting without ear protection will ring your ears. And big magnums have severe muzzle blast to the sides. So be aware of your spotter's position. And most 400+ yard shots are going to be taken from a sitting or prone position. Not all, but a majority. I have brakes even on some smaller cartridges like my 6.5 SLR, that don't really need them to shoot comfortably. But it is very nice to be able to stay on target and see impact if you have proper shooting form as well. A brake will definitely eat into your budget unless you find a rifle with one already installed. Money well spent though, in my opinion. -
Oh...congrats on a fantastic tag. Good luck.

You joke, but in all honesty, one of the biggest bucks I have personally seen taken up there, a huge heavy 8x9, was killed on our way to camp just off the road as my friend got out, stepped off the road and arrowed him. I was in utter disbelief.
