Wow! Amazing bucks.

If I didn't have one already, I would be all over this. Smoking deal.

Just like in real hunting, it would depend on the conditions at the time. And I bet I could sneak closer.....

$4000 rifle +$400 scope +1 hour watching YouTube training video X1000 yards X 0 hours behind rifle = 0 game shot and recovered See, simple math even an engineer can do!

Any competent gunsmith can build a barreled action to your specs.

What Shooting/Ballistics Apps do you prefer best?
lancetkenyon replied to SlikRick02's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Shooter. And a lot of verification. -
Man, your buddy is really missing out n on converting a Tupperware Savage into thing of beauty with much better functionality and durability. Probably better accuracy too.

1 MOA (or 4 clicks if the tracking is on) is 1.047" @ 100 yards for the record. IPHY is 1" @ 100 yards. Which is very rarely used in scopes. 1 MIL is 1cm @ 100 meters. .1Mil is 1mm @ 100 meters. .1mil is .36" @ 100 yards. 1 MIL is 3.4377 MOA. I do agree that switching between MOA and MIL could cause confusion if you don't pay attention. Lastly, $800 is a good price for a NIB PST.

6.5x284 mule deer/coues gun
lancetkenyon replied to trophymaster's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a buddy that built a 6.5-06 AI that I did load development for. Pushed a 140 SMK or 140 HVLD @ 3100+. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/66517-new-65mm-wildcat-cartridge/page-3 -
6.5x284 mule deer/coues gun

Novice reloader? .260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor would fit the bill, great brass available, a little easier on the barrel, but still packs plenty of punch. -
6.5x284 mule deer/coues gun

Good round for deer/antelope. I have two 6.5mm rifles, a .260 Rem and a 6 5 SLR. Both shoot the 140 Berger HVLD @ 2840 & 2940fps respectively. The 6.5-.284 can get a bit more speed. Good brass is available, great bullet selection. There are faster 6.5s out there, but this is a solid choice. -
Ugly AND awesome! I would shoot it in a heartbeat. Great rare buck.

I used to lap cheap rings. I now run either Badger Ordinance or Seekins on everything, and have not lapped any of them. Quality rings shouldn't need it.

Great buck with awesome character!

Action trued? Cerakote or ??? Barrel contour? Velocity of rounds?

I have several rifles that are "good to 1000", and a couple of them are "good for more than 1000". I think I am "good for 1000" with those rifles too. I routinely practice from field positions from 350 to 1771 yards. Literally, 1000+ rounds a year, on top of all the 100-200 yard bench rounds. With all of that being said, with the exception of some coyotes, my furthest shot on big game is 488 yards on a mule deer. I think every other shot on big game over the years has been between 3-180 yards. Closest has always been better for me. I also think Taylor, my 14 year old daughter, is "good to 1000" if the need ever presented itself. She shoots almost as much as I do, and I bet 50+ times more than most hunters do throughout the year. Her big game shot distances have been: 18, 75, 160 yards. All one shot quick humane kills. I would rather attempt to get closer and possibly blow a stalk than take an iffy shot and wound game. That would weigh heavy on my mind.

Only if the rifle, load, and most importantly the shooter can. -
Thanks Andy. Well, to all who know me, I am 45. And I just found out 2 weeks ago....I am going to be a Grandpa! Paige, my 25 year old daughter is going to have a baby! Super excited around here.

Savage 7mm long range hunter 26" with break (WTB)
lancetkenyon replied to SlikRick02's topic in Classified Ads
I can vouch for Cody's rifle being a real shooter. 210 HVLD @ 2940fps, 3 shots @ 727 with a 15mph wind, if I remember correct yardage, was 2.25". His rifle changed my mind on Savages. -
That is honestly one of the best videos I have seen. Felt like we were there with you. Minus the tired legs and sore feet. Great filmography, great use of different video styles. Thank you very much for sharing, and congratulations on a nice buck.

300 win mag case seperation
lancetkenyon replied to AZBUCKEYE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I do all that case prep for all of my brass, new or fired. Lapua, Nosler, Norma, Remington, Winchester....it doesn't matter. Luckily, some of it is a one time deal after doing it the first time. Some of it is every 3 or 4 loadings, some every other, some every time. But you forgot the weight sort & anneal steps in there. -
Thoughts on trail cam results?

Yes. Try both.
