BS meter set on high for Thursday when people start the "my card got hit!" Check. Other than that, Greyghost85 is in the exact same boat as me. Except elk too. Haven't had an elk tag since 1999 either.

I can hear the lead up to the reveal now..... "Now, I just shot a forkie, but he is a pretty big forkie."

What don't you like about the LRAB? Is it an accuracy issue or terminal performance on game? Accuracy. Notorious for two in one out groups. If I recall correctly, Lance had issues with them too. Same results from a gun that loves 168 HVLD, 175 SGK (both in the .3-.4s), 180 Hybrid and 183 SMK (both in the .2-.3s, sometimes better). I couldn't get the 175 NABLR to shoot better than 1".

Berger 180s and H1000. Retumbo should work just fine too.

I found one south of Flagstaff area. North of Kelly Canyon Rd. To the east of I-17. A small Cessna type plane. Saw the two wings first, severe damage from tree impacts that steered them off. Found the fuselage about 150' further on the path. Pretty old. Reported it to Coconino Sherriff's Office with coordinates. Unfortunately, it was just me and my dogs, and no camera. Before I had a smart phone, maybe 10 years ago. It was an unreported site according to CCSO. No evidence of human remains that I could find. Long way from any dirt roads.

.300WM Christensen Arms Load Development
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
After the ladder test, and shooting 3 of the factory HSM loads that were very inconsistent, inaccurate, and too hot, I pulled , he remaining 17 apart. I was kind of shocked at the results. Charge weights were off across the 17 rounds by over .5 grains. -
So here is the story on my 15x56 Euro HD. I went in to Cabela's with the expectation to buy the Swaros. Cash in hand. I already had the 10x42s, and was very happy with them, but still thought I wanted the Swaros for my new 15s. I took them both outside with tripods with a great sales lady at the glass counter. We sat and BSed for about 30 minutes, while I swapped behind the two binos. Looking at the stadium, buildings across the 101, etc. I was still torn because of the image quality of the Euros was so close, wondering if the Swaros were truly worth an extra $900. We went back inside, still undecided. Then, she started her sales pitch on the Euros. I picked a good day to go, because there was a 10% off Sale on the Euros, I opened a Cabela's credit card, saving an additional 20%, plus they gave me a $100 gift card, and gave me an additional 10% off at the register, and I got $110 in Cabela's points, which they let me use right then! I walked out paying less than $1100 for a brand new set of 15s. As cheap as I got my 10x42s for on sale!

I have 10x42HD, 15x56HD, and now a 20-70×82HD spotter. I have thousands of hours behind them over the last couple years scouting and hunting. I am admittedly a glass snob, and glad I saved thousands by going this route over Swaros. Buy with confidence. I love mine

Taylor Gets a Truck (And I Get a Hunting Truck Until Then)
lancetkenyon posted a topic in The Campfire
OK, it is a year and a half early, and a year before I was going to get serious, but I could not pass up the deal. Sure is nice having a son-in-law as a mechanic at a dealership that can watch for a vehicle as soon as it comes in on a trade. Saved about $10-11k on it. Pretty much exactly what she wanted. Make, model, even color! 2008 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. 83K miles, rear locker, 80% 285/70r17 Toyo Open Country, 2" lift, auto. Can't wait to get some blood in the bed this year!- 15 replies

I have shot coyotes with them at 100 to 400 yards from my .300RUM, and basically turned them inside out at closer ranges, and put a baseball size exit on the longer ones. Also shot elk with them from 160 to 440 and dropped them on the spot. No issues with them killing anything they hit in the right spot.

Here is the official thread to sign up for the 1st "CWT Online Fun Shoot". Post if you are wanting a target to be mailed to you. Then PM me with your address where you want it sent. One per shooter please. 40 spaces available. First come, first served. I will give this until February 1st for signup. I will start mailing out targets by end of this week hopefully as people sign up and PM me their addresses. Shooting deadline and targets must be mailed back and received by Feb. 22nd. I will not post scores w. names until all targets are back in or shortly after the deadline. But I will post up when targets start trickling back in. Also, post your rifle's specs, load specs, scope, etc. A picture of your rifle would be cool too. Please read all of the procedures below thoroughly. FIRING PROCEDURE: Targets are shot FROM THE GROUND or BENCH at 100 yards only. This means you can shoot prone, standing, kneeling or sitting if you choose. Post a photo of your setup on this thread when you are shooting. ***The target(s) will come folded in thirds with the center section (CBS* , 25-ring, and 15/25 target) facing out. The targets MUST STAY FOLDED as I send it until the first shot is fired at the center CBS circle. - MAKE SURE YOU ONLY POST 1 TARGET AT A TIME THOUGH, AND ONLY SHOOT THE CBS CIRCLE, AS THERE WILL BE SEVERAL FOLDED TOGETHER IF YOU REQUEST MORE THAN ONE TARGET!! ***The first shot and ONLY THE FIRST SHOT is to be fired at the ring marked "CBS" -you will denote on the back of the target whether or not it was a true CBS* (see definition below). AFTER you shoot your CBS* you must walk out to the backstop and unfold the target. It will now have 3 holes in it from your first shot. - This will show that the second shot was not taken directly after the first because the target needed unfolded before firing the second shot. This also adds a bit of stress and makes you disturb our position ***PLEASE CIRCLE OR OTHERWISE MARK THE HOLES FROM THE CBS* SHOT NOW, the target is unfolded and still mounted at 100yds. Shoot the rest of the circles (and the confidence shot* if you choose to) at your convenience. ***You can shoot your REQUIRED 3-SHOT GROUP* at any time, in any order after the target is opened up. Don't forget you CONFIDENCE SHOT* !!! (defined below) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REST/EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: ALLOWED: Front Bipod/rucksack/sandbags/beanbags. Beanbags, and bunny-ear bags MAY be used in the rear no rear monopods. NOT ALLOWED: mechanical/tripod style bench rests (front or rear), including but not limited to Hart/Sinclair/Bald Eagle/Protector/Hoppe's/Caldwell etc. No "Lead Sleds" or micro-adjustable rests. - IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS PM ME ***THERE ARE NO RIFLE OR WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS*** Please no calibers over .338" ***Also an added bonus for hitting the other strategically placed stars. See target for the added star points (+10 where applicable) *** 3-SHOT GROUP SCORING Groups over 1-inch will not add to or affect your score at all. Your group size will be subtracted from 1" and multiplied by 100 to give you the value added to your score EXAMPLE: Group = 0.750" Difference from 1" = 0.250" 0.250 x 100 = 25 So a 0.5" group would add 50pts, 0.25" group would add 75pts etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Multiple ring targets get the highest point ring hit. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS: *CBS: (Cold Bore Shot) concerning your FIRST SHOT at the "CBS" circle on the target. To be an honest "true CBS" this must be the first shot from the gun THAT DAY. The gun MAY be fouled and sighted in the prior day, but if you are claiming a CBS, it must be the first shot that day. A TRUE CBS IS NOT REQUIRED, BUT IS A BETTER TEST OF PERSONAL AND EQUIPMENT ABILITIES. *3-SHOT GROUP: --fire ONLY 3 shots at the diamond aiming point at any time after the target is unfolded *CONFIDENCE SHOT: (OPTIONAL -- ONE SHOT ONLY!!): --This can be fired any time after you unfold the target (after the CBS) YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY HIT THE CIRCLE/STAR YOU ARE GOING AFTER WITH THE CONFIDENCE SHOT. The confidence shot is ONE ROUND fired at whatever circle you are sure you can hit a second time - if you miss the chosen circle with this shot, you loose ALL the points for THAT CIRCLE. THIS SHOT IS NOT REQUIRED-ONLY TAKE IT IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT YOU CAN CONNECT On the back of your target, please write the rifle info, and round info, along with username. Mail them back to me after you are done. I will score them and post results. Here is what the target will look like. 8.5" x 11" standard letter size. I will see if I can get any prizes, and they will be drawn randomly. No need to have the highest score to be eligible for a prize. I will hit up some buddies who might donate a prize, and I might throw one or two in too. If you want to donate something, or a service, let me know by PM. Let the games begin!!! 1. Allforelk 2. Official "Target Fun Shoot" Thread
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The 200 yard shoot will have significantly larger targets with higher score zones. Should be able to easily see all targets with a 3-9. Also, they will be more "hunting" related targets. I have all of the individual targets made up and saved, I just need to put them all together on one target. Might work on it a bit this weekend if I get a chance. -
