Let's narrow this 6.5 chamber down (help)
lancetkenyon replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The 6.5 RSAUM (or GAP 4S) will still have shorter barrel life than a .260 Rem/6.5 CM type velocity cartridge. Speed=wear. That being said, I am keeping my 15# 6.5 SLR as is for high volume shooting, but going to rechamber my 10.5# .260 to a 6.5 SS (Sherman Short Mag) in the fairly near future for a carry weight deer/antelope hunting rifle. I really don't need two 2800-2900fps 6.5mm rifles. But one 2900 & one 3200 fps 6.5 will sure be nice! -

My 6.5 SLR w. 140 HVLD is 2.181" CBTO, 2.835" COAL. Just fits in an R700 SA. -

6.5 SLR (L) vs. .260 ® -
Too much magnification for closer shots or fast target acquisition. I would do a 3-9 before I did a fixed 10x myself. What is your budget? Don't get me wrong, I love SWFA scopes. I have 2 on my 10/22s. 3-15×42s.

Harris HB25CS. I thought In would save a few $$ and tried another brand. Same basic bipod, same leg height, swivel, etc. Got it home, took it out of the package and clipped it on the rifle. Took it off, drove back to the store, and returned it for the Harris. POS wobbly mess. Skip the lesser priced bipods. Caldwell and Blackhawk suck for stability.

Got the stripes and then the clear coats done today. Let it dry, then reassemble and get it home. -
3rd CWT Fun Shoot "Rimfire Roundup" (.22LR Only, 50 Yards)
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Went and shot in the wind today. Amazing how much wind effects a 40 grain bullet @ 1150fps in 50 yards. We sighted in her rid, and let it cool for about 30 minutes, then the wind kicked up and we shot. With no wind, the newly built 10/22 shoots like this... And yet again, Taylor beat me. I haven't even scored them yet, I know. -

6.5 SLR. .260 Rem case capacity, 30° shoulder, neck and shoulder design of the 6.5x47L (a well proven design for accuracy and long barrel/throat life), low case stretch, can use any .243/.260 brass, most readers are no turn necks using Winchester or Remington brass which are low cost and readily available, one pass through a FL die and you are basically formed so no AI fire forming needed, just to finish it off, more speed and case capacity than a 6.5 Creed or 6.5x47L. Takes big mulies at 600+ even by a 14 yeat old girl, And only a few cool guys have one.... L-R: .260 Rem, 6.5 SLR, 6.5 CM, 6.5x47L L-R: fire formed 6.5 SLR, 1st pass through FL die, .243 Win parent case Mine has a 27.75" barrel. Getting 2950fps from a 140 HVLD for my hot hunting loads, 2860fps from a 140 HVLD in my light target loads. 15# rifle w. brake recoils light enough to call your own hits on target. My light load brass have anywhere from 4-6 firings, and primer pockets are still tight in Rem brass. I trim about every 4th firing. I have 500 pieces of brass, 100 in my hunting loads, 300 in my light target loads, another 50 in a Barnes 127 LRX load at 3050fps, and 40ish in a 95 V-MAX @ almost 3500fps. Everything shoots in the .3-.4s and some much better. -
Bump for a good scope.

Have an email? I can email it to you and you can go shoot tomorrow. -
SGKs open fantastic at high velocity. My .25-06AI used to love the 117 SGK @ 3500fps, game hated them. I now shoot 115 HVLDs though.

Thank Hynoon, great meeting you.

I have a 7E early rifle bull, and 3 late rifle bull tags in 7W to try and get filled. But, more importantly, God be with the firefighters risking their lives to put it out.

Nice resurrection of an 11 year old thread! Still pertinent info however.
