Blah...blah....blah blah blah. Great elk, lucky guy for taking it. I am envious. Get my blood pumping. Way to clutter up a thread about a great bull.

Gee officer, I thought I was only going 63mph....honest.

I just bought a pair of Yukon rain pants and Yukon rain jacket. I love Kuiu gear. Never was one for high end camo....until I tried it.

Strelok Ballistic app powder temp comp?
lancetkenyon replied to 105Coues's topic in Long Range Shooting
A lot of the powders now are temp stable. I did have one load, .25-06AI using RL22 which is known for a 1fps per 1° of temperature swing from your normal sight in temps. I used a 1fps in that category, and it compensated and I made 1st round hits out to 900+ in all kinds of conditions and temperature ranges. From 110° to 4°. Shooter was spot on. Saying the Applied Ballistics app is "much more accurate" totally depends on the inputs you provide. Garbage in, garbage out. Precise in, precise out. I think a 1st round hit on a 12" steel at 600, 880, 1000, 1332, and 1771 yards proves Shooter is plenty accurate if you input correct information. I would think almost any app is better than most shooters can hold for. -
Great...more load development this fall.

I will take it.

We have eliminated 6 in the last 3 days on a remote mountaintop job site. 12ga or shovel work just fine.

In depth study on case annealing
lancetkenyon replied to PRDATR's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Depends on cartridge and how many times the case has been fired. Some FL every time, some neck sizing 2/3 of the time. -
In depth study on case annealing
lancetkenyon replied to PRDATR's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yes. I have always done it that way, as the resizing process work hardens the brass, and not always consistently. Annealing softens it back prior to loading. Also, if you need to trim/chamfer, it is easier to do that prior to annealing in my observations. Look at their data of brass hardness. They try different operational steps, and their findings show the same. Shoot, resize, clean, anneal, load... gave them the most consistent brass hardness time after time. Whether loaded 3x or 10x on a piece of brass, this practice was the most consistent. -
Totally depends on the shooter. I have never shot this barrel until hot. It took me 13- 14 years to get where the round count is at. And I normally shoot 2-4k rounds a year of centerfire rifle. This has always been a hunting rifle. Never a rifle I go and shoot for recreation. Load development and fire forming brass took up most of the rounds I have shot out of it. But it has taken plenty of game from prairie dogs, jackrabbit, plenty of coyotes, and several deer. I would think average barrel life for a .25-06AI would be around 1000-1300 rounds. More if you are lucky and are careful like I have been, less if you abuse it and run it hot.

In depth study on case annealing
lancetkenyon replied to PRDATR's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Good read. Technical, but informative. In layman's terms: shoot, size, clean, annual, load. In that order to retain the most consistent neck/shoulder brass hardness and neck tension. -
The bad thing about Vias (I had a KDF which is very similar) is the downward facing ports. They blow dirt, dust, rocks, etc. right up into your optics and face when shooting prone or even sitting sometimes.
