    Help in 21

Check out the washes that feed into the Verde river near sheeps crossing. The road is rough and he will have to hike alot, but there are some big fellers in there. If he wants whitetails then the area north of bloody basin east to the verde under pine mountain is a good place to look. Again alot of hiking due to limited road access but less hunters and more animals. Hope he is in shape, I lost 15 pound on my hunt out there last year
  6. I have been chasing a particular buck for 2 seasons now with a string and stick, I know some of his bedding areas and have already seen him with a handful of does this year. Last year and this year I have continued to have problems getting on him either because of his does or him being bedded under a cliff which affords no downhill shot and no uphill stalk due to a brush and cholla fortress. I have been in several mexican standoffs with him closest being about 93 yards. What should i do when he has spotted me, should I sit and wait him out to see if he continues to feed and hope I can sneak closer? Or should I push the issue and try to out flank him? Or back out and sit still hoping he come close enough for a shot? Any suggestions would help, he is a smart old buck.

what to do once buck spots you?

I appreciate the feedback, I dont know if it was on this sight or a picture online but I saw a guy with a foam doe mule deer head on and a giant buck propped up for photos and I thought to myself that I really wish I had one of those the other day. I know they work with pronghorns why not mulies. I guess as archery hunters we gotta be willing to try some different tactics to get close. Thanks again and I will post if I get him.

    Rolling the dice on 21

I would bring the atv, if your out off dugas/bloody basin roads the quad will come in handy and save your truck some abuse. there are alot of fire roads that you can access to get off the main road and access some country, especially the closer you get to the verde river off bloody basin.

    22n late hunt

scooter were you right under the rim?
  14. So with this big storm we just had wondering what you guys think about where would be the best option for location to start this hunt. Have been scouting under the rim closer to the west side of unit and out in the northern portion of the Matalzals. Have seen more animals in the pinon/juniper-mesa areas than in the land under the rim. Do you guys that hunt this unit alot see the elk moving more down the rim with these storms? Hunt starts friday and Iam second guessing my plan of action.

    Unit 1 archery bull

I had this Tag last year and it was a great hunt, was around the carnero lake area, bulls were screaming it was everything you would want a rut hunt to be. good luck this year to all those that drew this incredible unit

    Archery desert buck down

well you now know a good spot for some predator hunting
  19. Anyone have any luck around the pine mountain wilderness area or the bloody basin area? I have had seena few bucks in the area around tangle creek but not many. Seems like great habitat for whitetail and I would think there would be more animals in the area than what iam seeing.
  20. I wear oversized socks over my boots. They are hospital socks that have the rubber grip pattern on the bottom so you still have some grip on rocky surfaces. They are quiet cheap.
  21. Black gold ascent 3 pin with adjustable sight, set pins up at 20, 30, 40, for quick shots where you cant make to much movement or adjust you sight. good for 3d or league shooting as well with the accuracy of the adjustable sight. I love it!!

22 north bull late rifle hunt

Hi guys new to the site, me and a buddy drew tags for the last rifle hunt in this unit planning this as a backpacking hunt and was wondering if anybody had contacts for pack out mule or horse services in case we are lucky? If anybody has a butcher/game processor they would suggest in the Payson, Pine/Stawberry area that would be great too. Thanks

Thanks guys, I think we can pack out on our own but wanted something just in case we hunt in the more remote areas near the western edge of the unit. Thanks for the info, this is a awesome website.
