As a kid theres no way my old man would have let me pass on the first legal buck we saw. Typically he'd get so worked up, and in turn get me so frazzled that I'd get little time to relax and get a shot off. Which was always followed with the typical... "what were you shooting at blah blah blah..." To this day he likes too remind me of the little 2 point I missed at 100 yards when I was 14 years old. With my daughter I will leave it up to her. Shes and excellent shot and I want to make sure that she takes the time she needs to make the shot. Hopefully, things will fall into place and she'll get to make that shot on a cow elk this October. As for me I no longer hold out. Just getting out and getting to hunt is such a privelage anymore, If it feels right I shoot it.

I'm ill-prepared as usual. But I'll give it a try anyway. Don't really even know where I'm going to go or how I'm going to hunt when I get there. But its still better than NOT hunting.

I agree with both you guys. I typically rant about this every year about this time. The whole TMP concept is a joke. I just get tired of feeling like the only one playing the game.

I've been out scouting for the upcoming archery deer hunts, It appears to me that I'm the only guy dumb enough to actually adhere to the Forest Service's travel management plans. Sorry for the whining, just my yearly TMP complaint rant.

Ive inherited this same rifle in .30-'06. A couple years ago I was thinking about building it into something custom. Casey (firstcoueswas80) and couple others here talked me out of it, and I'm glad they did. Now after seeing what you and your son have done with yours I'm inspired to bring that old rifle back to life. Thanks for sharing.

Much as I hate to admit it... I cant help but doze off from time to time when hunting out of the blind. But when spot and stalking and theres nothing moving, I've been know to catch a little cat nap as well then go back to glassing.

Never heard of Coues in 7, but all the units nearby have them even 10. I always think about the giant Coues bucks that have to live in some of the fringe units.

This is truly bad news. I love these heads. Super durable and they fly as advertised. Shot an elk with one two years ago, pass thru and into the rocks. No noticable damage, still in my quiver.

What a cool buck. Hate to see them die like that. Not to sidetrack the thread, but most DPS officers have no idea about the salvage tag process or how it works. Just my experience.
