Im pretty sure once the hunting seasons really get going youll see them start to enforce them more stringently. I saw them around quite a bit during my late archery elk hunt last year and there was hardly anyone else around.

reminds me of the Dan King buck from years ago. AWESOME!!!

Great buck and cant think of a better way for a hunt to go. Your son must have had a blast!

Thought I'd add a pic of a buck I killed with the ol' 721 back in 2000. I had a scope go bad on me on my other rifle and luckily had brought this one along just as a back up.

I have a vintage Remington 721 .30-'06. The idea occurred to me today that the action may be a good start for a custom build. Where would an average guy start? Though I'd like to switch to a different caliber I'm no sure which would be the best choice I don't think I'd want anything to crazy, just different. What are your guys thoughts? Thanks.

There really only concerned with hunters. Recreational campers will most likely get a pass.

Not sure where your headed out to but around here you might need flippers and a snorkel. Is it legal to shoot coyotes from a canoe?

I can see their point. The FS is not the G&F, they're not there to make hunters happy, they're there to conserve the forest for everybody, hunters, fisher, hikers, backpackers, family campers, etc. I've known some hikers & backpackers that hate the cameras & would love to see them gone. I'm pretty sure the FS has received more than a couple complaints from non hunters regarding the stuff left behind by hunters. The simple solution: leave no trace. I'm carrying a climber with me this year on my backpacking hunt. I've never seen one of them pick up a beer can or cigarette butt. FS employees or hikers? I can't speak for everyone, but I very often end up carrying out more than I packed in, whether I'm hunting or just hiking. I'm not saying they're right for taking people's property, I'm just saying I can see the point. The forest is for everyone, not just hunters, & lots of people don't want to have their pics taken by our trail cams or see our treestands & blinds while they're out enjoying nature in their own way. Just another reason why I stay a considerable distance away from roads & hiking trails. The two cams I have out now both require a hike of over a mile to reach. FS. They like screwing with people and taking their s**t, but I've never seen one picking up some losers camp site trash I'm sure they drove by a multitude of old tires, televisions, discarded tinsel covered Christmas trees and hundreds of beer cans left behind by the non hunting crowd. You'd have a difficult time finding FS employees who hunt. Most likely their sense of entitlement is related closer to the fact that they think the forests belong to THEM and that we are just a nuisance they have to endure.

A long long time ago I purchased a White Muzzleloader 50 cal for my dad. He never used it and recently gave it back to me. I have most of the possibles that i gave him as well but no powder or bullets. What would be a good powder/bullet combo to start with? Would it make sense to convert it to take shotgun primers and pellets? Thanks.

The Future of Hunting=Public Land Fees, Price Increase and Longer Wait
4Falls replied to CEI's topic in CEI Outdoors Blog
As a lifelong skeptic, I don't believe there is much of a future for hunting on public lands. Access will continue to shrink and it appears to me that G&F agencies have already started to make commitments to non-hunting based wildlife management. And as hunter recruitment goes down and more and more weekend warrior hunters move on to other hobbies, the dept will have no option but to raise fees exponentially to keep feeding its beauracratic machine. Then you have the issue of supply and demand. A larger population means more guys wanting those early bull and late deer tags. There has also been talk of antelope tags becoming once in a lifetime, as that species continues its steady decline due to habitat loss. My daughter has her first deer hunt this fall and I hope to enjoy as many as we can while we can. -
I started mine in 1968. Its finally starting to look like something.

In downtown Prescott today, Sheldon and Cortez approximately. Couldn't get in position to wave.

Ameristep here too. Also agree with the moving blanket idea. I used to use an old cloth camo sleeping bag. But someone stole it.

Who hunts coues with a 30-06
4Falls replied to ultramag's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I've killed two coues with an ought 6. Including one with my dads old Remington 721. There's a reason why that cartridge has been around over 100 years.
