This might be late but just saw it. here are my 2 cents My son was a part time guide on a fishing boat up there on prince of whales. We did a diy bear hunt up there and killed three nice bears. Alot easier then the deer. One of the the guys working at the lodge was a local there on the island. He showed us the deer he was killing on the island, and they were some nice bucks. He was hunting high. On our bear hunts we saw a few bucks low, but not very big. if it was me I would do a diy. And go high. I know a guy that rents boats for bear hunts. Very reasonable. I think I would try renting a boat to get away from people and start climbing. Something I have been wanting to do myself. As far as the rain. Yea be prepared for rain everyday. Hope fully you will get some nice days. If you are prepared for it its not that bad Ok doable. But if you are not it can be miserable The other nice thing about Prince of Whales is you do not have to deal with the brown bears. Especially if you are hunting with rifle however you do it I wish you the best of luck

how do you know they are a terrorist or murderer without a trial? Certainly not by snipetts on the TV or a 1,000 word article written in the NY Times or WSJ. The media in this country are a joke and completely agenda driven. You should be asking that question to the dead victims, or the ones that had their legs blown off in the explosion. Reminiscent of the Jared Laughner shooting. Many people saw him do it, but yet he was not murderer until proven guilty. He spent almost 2 years in jail under the guise, of being metally ill, then plea bargained out of a death penalty, To the tune of millions of dollars in taxpayer money. I am not a judge or jury, and I make up my own mind, regradless of what the lamestream media has to say. innocent people do not run, and get into fire fights with law enforcement, or toss IED's out the window at their pursuers. Has it been proven that these 2 were the bombers.? Certainly not. As a Patriotic Amercian, I am all for human rights, and a fair and speedy trial. It would also be nice to see some fair and speedy JUSTICE. I imagine this guy's trial will be another money suckng fiasco. Personally, I feel these guy's are as guilty, as they are foreign. I would like to see him swinging from the end of a rope, and let the buzzards feed off his sorry carcass Ditto Snap shot

Hello everyone I am a newbie on the block. I love to hunt elk or should I just say love to hunt period. Weather I have a tag or not it is nice just to be in the woods. I have hunted a couple different states in quest of big game. moose bear caribou elk antelope. (just a little about me beings i am new to the sight) After putting in for 6 years she finally drew an archery tag. She is excited and already shooting her bow. What is cool about this hunt is our son got drawn for the same unit. Though they wont admit it there is a little bit of a compition going on here. I will be helping my wife, and my son will have a friend helping him. I have hunted 6A and 10 But have never hunted unit 5Bn. Question is what is a good bull in this unit .we have 2 weeks to hunt, Is a 350 bull duable. or is this pushing the envelope? or is this not high enough?

Thank you everyone for the replies and the pms and all the great help. Its good stuff and I really appreciate it. Tines: No discouragement at all. Good questions I have seen several bulls 350 plus on the hoof. I do agree with you it is alot harder to judge them on the hoof, especially when they come in and you have to make that split second decision. I have hunted elk for thirty years (wich really does not mean much) But love going after big bulls. Few years back my oldest son drew a 6a tag We went in before the season and found 2 bulls over the 350 mark and and killed this one on day 5 of the hunt after passing on several bulls. This was one of the 2 bulls we were looking at.(picture enclosed) You had asked if my son was in the same boat as my wife: the answer is no ,he has killed several elk. And has been in on alot of hunts and bull kills.he is the one that is really going after a larger bull. I ask what kind of bulls are in this unit, Just to see what to expect when we show up for our scouting trip. and what kind of bulls are available in this unit and Just for general info and to talk hunting. As far as my wife goes, She would be very happy with any bull. It is her choice not mine what she shoots. But if I know her she will wait to shoot a 300plus bull the first week. If I can put a good bull in front of her the first couple days that we find in our preseason scouting, it will make her decision that much easier. I am a firm believer in the hunt before the hunt. And you are right altamitly the goal is to have a good time. Thats what it is all about . -

Thanks for the replies forkhorn: I would have to agree with that especially when you consider this is her first bow elkhunt. I cant wait till she is close on a screaming bull. Her ticker will definatlly be pumping. cwpredator: Congadulations to you and your family. All of you will have a great time. Those family times are ones that are not forgotten. Good luck to all of you. 80whunt247: Thanks for sharing the photo. That bull had some nice g3s. That other elk was probally a bull as well. I noticed he was in the big timbers compared to the pinion trees. Will we find more of the bigger bulls in the Big pine trees or more out in the juniper and pinion trees in that unit? I was wanting to put up some trail cams here in a couple of months better off putting in the big trees or pinion trees? -
Thanks for sharing,Liked the big bulls fighting at the waterhole cool stuff

If it was me I would go to the cedar flats. We did a hunt there a few years back and there was a ton of cows down on the flats. Each year is diferent though. Good luck on your hunt.
