David, good to meet you as well. Too bad you didnt have better luck. I know the feeling and it sucks when you are trying to bow hunt elk that are not in full rut. It can be tough and frustrating. But you are right, you just let em get bigger for me next year.... darren

Man, we had a great night last night. We had two elk down in a matter of 20 minutes, including a great bull. We first hit the bull at 9am, but not a great shot, so we found him again at 6pm laying down trying to hide from us by laying real still with his head down. We were able to sneak up on him to 20 yards and put another arrow in him. He tore off down the hill about 100 yards and down he went. As soon as we all gathered up around the bull, my buddy and I took off to try and find one of the bull's cows. We didnt have to go more than 400 yards and there they were. We were able to sneak up on two cows and got three shots in about 10 minutes. First shot was high, second shot was good at 55 yrds, third shot was good at 65 yards, and 100 yards later she was down. Anyway, it was a blast, and here are a couple pics. The bull also had a broken arrow in his neck from last week's hunt. One tough dude.

Yeah, I have had a great month of archery hunting that is for sure. I found out today, that the Fish and Game police were at my buddies house when he got home from work last night. Apparently, somebody complained about us killing two elk 200 yards behind his house. So they checked the tags and names and made sure we were on the up and up. I guess the guy was good about it, just said they had to check any complaints. That is definetly a risk of hunting in 11m. In fact, we could hear people walking about 200 yards away from us as I shot my cow.... I am wondering if anyone else shoots Shuttle T-Lock broadheads??? I just bought some for this years hunt and am really impressed. I shot my cow twice, with both shots at over 50 yards passing through. The second shot broke a rib on its way in...made an unbelievably loud 'whack' when it hit...and then broke a rib on its way out and was on the ground 20 yards behind the elk when I found it. Pretty impressive to me.

Doug, I must say that is the most thourough list I have ever seen....almost obsessive compulsive.... I am sure I dont carry all of those things, but one other thing I always carry.....a large bottle of Sabre Red pepper spray. Simply because there are too many things out there, including people, I might want to keep away from me. darren

Here is a strange bull killed by a friend of a friend....has a third main beam sticking straight out of his forehead....total of 18 pts. thought it was different enough to share.

We lost one of our high schoolers here in Camp Verde a few years ago in something like that. This guy was very lucky.

Here are a couple other pics I got of the bull. He really is crazy looking...maybe he grew up under the power lines....

Yeah Josh, the one from town is the one I was referring to...have you seen a picture of it yet....dumb question, I am sure you have. anyway, I think the reason the guy is so secretive is that he got the hunt on video, and is probably going to try and sell the video and story to a video/magazine company. Just a theory. It is not the same as the big bull from Clints Well, but I dod hear about that one as well. I must say I am surprised at the number of large bulls taken during such a dry year..... I just hope I can arrow a record book cow this weekend...

I saw a picture of a bull that was killed locally and it is huge...talked to the taxi and said it scored 430's. I cant post pics but I can tell you that none of the bull pics posted so far are of this bull. The name of the shooter has not been mentioned either, but I wont be the one to let the cat out of the bag. I do know the guy is being real protective of the horns and story. It is one amazing bull for sure. Congrats to the shooter.....

Man what a day today turned out to be. I was able to go out this morning with a couple huntin buddies, to try and get an early a.m. shot at a couple big bucks that we have been chasin, and then make it to work by 8. Things didnt quite go as planned, but I was able to shoot my first buck with my bow and still made it to work by 9 am. Thats what I call a good morning. I actually have video of this buck from a couple weeks ago, and he has been running with some monster bucks. Well, this morning the Lord was good to me and answered my prayers that my arrow would fly true. It did. Shot this buck at about 75 yards, just got the arrow into the bottom of his chest, just behind his heart. We were able to trail a good amount of blood for about 200 yards, then jumped him up. He ran just a ways and then laid down again. It did take another arrow to put him down for good...man was it an incredible morning. Thanks to Mike and Dino and the Almighty for a morning I will never forget. Guess I am out of the Coues Deer big buck contest for this year.

Any car salesmen/women here?
TwoGuns replied to muskrat's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
"Anyway, I would rather give the business to a fellow outdoorsman if possible." Is it possible a man could be a true outdoorsman and a car salesman at the same time? No offense to anyone, couldnt resist. Good luck with that search Muskrat. -

The boys were back in the field at Kachina last night. There were 10 bulls in the field, and a friend of mine, and my bro in law buckhorn, were able to watch them for quite a while. At one point they were hanging out only 45 yards from the fence. Here are some pics my buddy sent me.

yeah, have to agree with doug, dont think the big one from last year was there. My friend said there was a pretty good non typical that had 7 or 8 pts on each side, but also said it was like a 350 class bull. I will see if he can email me some more pics. darren
