we used one this year on a WT hunt in 6a, and we ranged an airplane as if flew overhead at 780 yards. they are sweet. longest range i could get from a tree or rock pile was just short of 1000yrds. i like the red display they have as well, and the scan mode. very cool.

thats all you'll find in unit 9....

I shoot a mathews switchback xt long draw and love it. I dont know the first thing about any other bow, but I know the one i shoot works great for me. In the last couple years I have killed a mule deer buck at 78 yards, a bull elk at 20 yards and a cow elk at 55/65 yards. My first shot at my cow this year was 55 yards and second shot was at 65. Every shot on each was a complete pass through. My 65 yard shot on my cow was very loud since the arrow broke a rib on the way in, and broke a rib on the way out and the arrow was laying on the ground about 15 yards behind where she was standing. It shoots fast and quite and kills. Now, I know that there are a lot of other factors involved, but I have been impressed with my xt. Just my experience. twoguns

What would you do? (hunting etiquette)
TwoGuns replied to PSEHunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The number one priority each year when planning our hunt is where can we go to avoid all the other hunters. It is possible but sure getting more tough. But, it is nice living up in the verde valley so that after work I can drive 30 min and be hunting everyday of the week. -
man, that is really too bad.... only 20.5 inches wide. throw him back....

Josh, cant wait to see that thing in person. man, what a great buck. darren -
Sorry to hear you had that problem, but thanks for sharing, as I will make sure to avoid the place. Caseys did a fine job with my mule deer this year.

What caliber do you use and why?
TwoGuns replied to stalkincoues's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
For real long range coues hunting, nothing beats it. It is a bear to pack around though..... -
my dad filled his tag opening morning.... man, you sure are right about the # of hunters out there. we worked pretty hard to find a spot where we could avoid the crowds, and about 45 min before my dad shot his buck, a carp hunter told us we were in the wrong area, that there were no WT in the area. You should have seen the look on his face when he came hiking by while we were admiring our WT buck on the ground. twoguns

First Post, First Coues Deer with a bow.
TwoGuns replied to RFactor's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Welcome to the worlds best coues website and congratulations on killing a great buck with your bow. I know how hard archery kills are to come by, and I would sure be happy with a nice deer like that. twoguns -
right on shorty! congrats, you sure earned it. twoguns

Dad and I were up early this morning and out on our way in the dark, at least relative dark since the full moon was HUGE. It was so bright I could hardly sleep. Anyway, we headed out and spent some time glassing on different ridges, but didnt have any luck. Working down a ridge, all of a sudden a couple bucks bust out of the brush and stop at 30 yards to see what was around, and that was all she wrote. One shot and the buck was down. It was awesome. Here are some pictures, and I included quite a few since so many are sitting at home without a tag, or waiting for their hunt to begin. What a great time spent with my dad, the weather was great, and sitting around the fire in the cool evening was sweet. We will be back at it tonight with my brother who also has a tag, and then tomorrow I will be taking my other brother into unit 21. Should be fun. This is me with the buck, maybe the very first of the 2007 season. Here is my dad with his 2007 Coues Buck Also, I am pretty sure that this is the same buck that I got pictures of on my trail camera. Let me know what you think, if this could be the same deer. The buck we killed this morning was only about 4-500 yards away up a ridge from where my salt is. Here is the pic from the trail cam Twoguns

David, I would love to hear how you guys did over there, and what all you saw. I could not believe how many hunters were in the area, I hope you guys were able to get away from the crowds. Fill me in when you get time. Also, we had no other luck filling my brothers tags. We did see one other small buck, and lots of does, but no shooters. I would also love to hear of any other bucks coming out of 6A this year. I have not seen any others yet......

Congratulations Steve, what a sweet buck! That thing will look nice on the wall overlooking your living room. Hope it dont take you another 6 years to get the next one.

Campout in 6A for the october hunt
TwoGuns replied to Bucks_N_Yotes's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Right on, sounds like a good plan. I love that area down the power lines. too bad the road is so crappy. I am not sure what time we will be able to get up the hill thursday...depends on work schedules, so we are not sure at this point. -
Campout in 6A for the october hunt
TwoGuns replied to Bucks_N_Yotes's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
I think we will be camped on the north side of the hwy, which is north of the old cabin. I believe that is called salmon lake on the map, and if you go north about 1.5 miles and go right through the gate we will be just north of that gate on the left under two small juniper trees, next to a small prickly pear cactus, between a few jack pines. We were camped there last weekend, and at about 9:30 at night we turn on the spot light from camp we see a small 2x2 WT buck about 120 yards up the hill. He could care less we were there and didnt react to the light at all, just kept about his business. -
Josh, it dont surprise me that you saw no sign there....I have been there a few times and not ever seen any sign. At least I don't think I did. My wife's aunt and her husband run the ranch up there and I will have to ask Gary next time I talk to him if he ever sees them in the area. Too bad you didnt find em though, I would sure like to get a look at em as well. Darren

Campout in 6A for the october hunt
TwoGuns replied to Bucks_N_Yotes's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
SF, we will be camped on 25th near the power line road, with a grey toyota and pewter chevy pup. I think we will hunt by just driving the roads and let all the other hunters in the area chase em up for us... Where will you be at? -
Looks like Two Guns might want to contemplate all meanings of the word "Silent As A Grave".... since it would appear that "Loose Lips Sink Ships".... CnS I am sure that I am not the only one that knows of these pigs, but you can be sure that I will not be giving any maritime coordinates for this ship.

Looks like something I could have used this year in 11m.... Especially since I was flinging arrows at elk in an industrial area...to remain unnamed...along their fence line. And I have a strange feeling that some of those hogs have already escaped from that ranch.... call it a gut feeling.

What did he shoot the buck with? It looks like it stepped on a land mine...

blazers work well i am sure, but they are too expensive. My arrows fly perfectly well with regular 4" veins. IMO

BML, I will be taking my brother into unit 21 on the 26th of oct. and looking for some bucks as well. what will you be driving? maybe we wii run into each other.
