Man that looks like it hurts...and unfortunately, I know just about how bad...

I know I must have tipped over the edge of the paranoid hunter cliff at this point. But I am wondering if anyone else has joined me. Surely some of you have thought of this sort of thing as well. Last week I ordered some MORE Luminol.... There is a new kind out, called Bluestar that is supposed to be much better and brighter. It will react with the smallest amount of blood and cause it to glow in the dark bright blue/green. Having looked for blood in the dark more times than I care to count, and having lost track of animals by not being able to follow their blood trail, I am hoping this might help in that situation. Here is what their website says... BLUESTAR® FORENSIC is a new reagent whose purpose is to reveal blood stains that have been washed out, wiped off or which are invisible to the naked eye. This product is intended for crime investigators. Based upon chemiluminescence, its unique formula qualifies it as the most effective blood revealer available on the market, for crime scene as well as forensic lab use. BLUESTAR® glows bright (the glow does not require total darkness to be visible) and lasts hours after mixing. and a link... Bluestar I will be carrying it with me in my pack, and should the need arise, hopefully it will help. Twoguns the Paranoid

Good luck this weekend to all those going out. Be safe and shoot straight. I have to go to the feed store tomorrow and buy a bear tag, turkey tag and lion tag....ouch. But I can only hope I get the opportunity to fill at least a couple of them. Can't wait to see the pictures start pouring in of all the success stories. I'm a nervous wreck. Twoguns

Anybody else watch RelentlessPursuit on the Pursuit channel? I love that show, they are the most committed, dedicated hunters and make a great show. I consider last nights show a good omen...they were in AZ or NM hunting Coues Deer. They were hunting from ground blinds and tree stands and even rattled in a couple. I think it is a good omen because come this weekend I will be sitting in my ground blind waiting for grey ghosts to show up. I have been having my doubts about the possible effectiveness of hunting this way, but that show got me all fired up! Good luck to all stick and string hunters this weekend, I will be out there with you. Twoguns And if you havent watched Relentless Pursuit, it is on channel 608 (Direct TV) at like 7:30...

you can put a wood box around your camera with screws or nails sticking out of it so that they get a poke if they stick their nose in it. Works great for bear or cow.

I think its an arrow shaft. The bull we killed 2 years ago had an arrow shaft sticking out of its neck with the broadhead still inside. The skin had healed aroud the arrow and we could not pull it out till we skinned it. They are tough animals for sure.

+1 I love mine, and a quality product.

Triple Crown Combined Scores are posted
TwoGuns replied to Dick's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Dick, we had a great time at the BHH. What perfect weather and great scenery. My buddies and I took our 6 kids and had a terrific time. They loved the kids course and loved getting a free t-shirt. We will be planning our family vacation to the mountains for the same week next summer, just so we go to the shoot. Thanks for your hard work on the board, and enjoy your retirement. -
Rusty, you just made my day. I just bought one from JAMARO, and now I need to sell my Nikon 440. It is 2 years old and works great if you are interested. Will send you a PM, but I am on vacation in White Mtns till Monday. Darren

Unit 21 MULE DEER for 4 of us.

I finally finished a couple homemade cameras and deployed them last week. Here are my first pictures. I'm just glad they are working.

Thanks for the kind comments. As for the way they are strutting in front of the camera up on the rock....that takes a lot of training.

I think it is hard to say where he will end up, but he is off to a good start in those pics. He is heavy and his bottom end is strong. I definitely think you need to get another look at him.

Cant wait for archery elk season to hurry up and get here.

last weekend at a shoot, one of the targets was set at 3 yards, and someone said to use your 40 yard pin on it, and it worked. not sure other than that. I know my 60 yard pin is not the same as my 20. Guess you just have to try it out.

what is in the foreground of the 2nd pic? Another buck?

+1 + 2 Also, make sure you are using string wax every time you shoot. It will make your string last much longer.
-
I just bought a pair of 15's from sportsmasguide. they are columbias and were only $50. undefined

you will probably need to make a few minor adjustments if you switch to a loop... String loops are awesome, and they save your string serving, and maybe even make you more accurate downrange.

I will hold out for as big an elk as I think I can find in my unit. Last year a 399 bull was killed there. Also, after the season we found a 380+ bull, so I will hunt as hard as I can for a sweet set of horns, but also know that means I may keep my tag in my pocket and I am ok with that. Bull tags are few and far between so I guess I will try to make the most of the ones I can get.

I think a phone call would settle a lot things. Call him up and see how the conversation goes. Don't think he should have told you to remove your salt though, who does he think he is? But a lot of guys would have just torn up your camera, at least he just left a note.

What is the Ideal Arrow and Broadhead Choice for Elk?
TwoGuns replied to mulie hunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Regardless what you do... you better do it quick! If your just now thinking about a specific arrow and broadhead set up, your already behind the 8 ball.. Its all about confidence.... I suggest buying 2 different brands of arrows that are similar in spine, weight , length. sight them in and once youve found the arrow that fits you best then practice shooting fixed blade broadheads. ie. 4 blade muzzys are BAD TO THE BONE! (Oh yeah buy a dozen of the better of the 2 aroows previously mentioned) I would suggest Easton FMJs And Gold Tip XT hunter I don't think I'm behind the 8 ball, I've been Bowhunting for years, I've never been drawn for Elk though. As For Arrows I Have Carbon Express CX 400 29" 8.9 grains, Easton Carbon Excel 29" 9.5 grains, Beman Black Max MFX Arrows 29" 9.5 grains. I have Shuttle T-Lock broadheads 100 grain and just ordered the G5 Montec 100 grain, Also have the Rage 2 blade 100 grain, Rocket Steel heads, but reading the other post I think I will stick with a fixed blade for Elk. I Truly appreciate all the advice just wanted to see what has worked for others on Elk , since the biggest game I've hunted so far is deer. I think you will be fine with what you have. I think the shuttle t's are great for elk. the last two years, I have shot/killed two elk with shuttles t's and have seen great results. I use the 125 grain heads though.
