I used to be a golf pro at Mountain Brook Golf Club in Gold Canyon. We had mule deer on the driving range quite a bit in the summer. The bunkers on the range would puddle up from the sprinklers and they would come lay in them...while people were hitting balls too.

Drew my first goat tag this year. Pretty excited to get out and do some scouting. How is access in 3B North? Most of the unit looks to be private but is it posted? I wanted to start scouting the area outside of Concho around Mesa Redonda and Critchlow Flat. Can I get into these areas without permission or do I need to start looking for land owner contacts?

Welp, tag soup for me, couldn't get in close enough for a shot. If anyone knows someone with the 3BN Muzzy tag that starts this week I can give them directions to the best buck I was chasing. If they like him I'm sure they will get him the first morning. I got to 150ish yards about 5 times but couldn't get closer.

That's great, Congrats. Unbelievable cause is right, I still can't read a story about those guys without getting choked up.

That sounds like how I expected it to work. Had another heard look at me and walk off today. The bucks just don't seem to care that I'm there like I thought they would. Going to try the cow decoy for the next few days. Been shooting at camp with it attached to my bow and can still hit a paper plate out to 70. I didn't want to use it without a partner to hold it but I'm up here alone for 12 days so need to make something work. Antelope 9, Me 0.....

Antelope 6, Me 0 No shortage of bucks up here but dang they are hard to get close to. This is going to make hunting Muleys in January seem easy. Got to 120 with the Be-The-Decoy this afternoon but he just wouldn't come closer. Had a 30 min stare down till I finally started crawling to him, made it 10 yards and they walked off. I guess they need to be rutting a little more for the Goat Suit to work.

Score as of Monday afternoon: Antelope 4, Me 0 Put some serious miles on the boots since all the roads are too muddy to drive down. Also, haven't shot or been shot at by any Meth Addicts yet so I'm doing pretty good. Think I ran the big buck I scouted out of the country today, almost drew back 3 times and he finally had enough and ran for miles.

Congrats, can't wait to get home to see it in person. Now if it would stop raining in my unit maybe I could get it done too.

Pretty buck, congrats to Art. I hope to have a pic to add this weekend too.

Since I've been up scouting I've found a place to stay that is on Forest Service land but not on any of the roads I asked about earlier. When I drove down those roads I realized I would be camped right in the middle of where I wanted to hunt. I went to the Antelope Seminar at the G&F office a few months ago and received some good info on camp spots from a Warden for that area.

Yes definitely watch out for meth houses and meth heads. I'd be well armed while up there scouting and hunting. Well now I'm nervous. I've been scouting 3 weekends since starting this topic. Seen some places I wanted to stay away from but nothing this bad. I always have my G20 on me but I would hate to feel like I needed to use it. Thanks for the heads up though. Saw 8 bucks last weekend, headed back up tomorrow after work.

You know how to make a grown man cry? Tell Him he was drawn for Big Horn Sheep. Know how to make him cry twice? Tell him it was a mistake.

Are there places to camp off of Pintail Lake Rd, Burbon Ranch Rd, or Little Mormon Lake Rd?

I've installed 10 or 12 strings from 60XCustomStrings. Brad does a good job and they cost less than Winners Choice, America's Best, or Vapor Trail. I've bought 60X strings for multiple PSE's, a few Mathews, and a Hoyt or 2. All have tuned great in short order and I have not seen serving separation or any other problems with any of them.

I like how the system is now for the type of hunts I apply for. I could see how guys with 20 points are upset, but they are also applying for premium hunts. Nobody that has 20 points has probably ever thought of applying for the hunts that I have drawn. I'm thinking of applying for early archery first choice, late archery second choice from now on. The unit I'll be applying for would give me a chance to draw a bull tag 4 out of 5 years. Even if my success rate is below 20% I'm still going to kill more elk in my life than someone applying for unit 9 early rifle every year. Of course the elk I kill will probably be in the 290"-330" range instead of 360"+, but I'll be in the field with my bow almost every year. I apply for premium hunts in NM so when I do get lucky over there and pay the $780 tag fee I'll get to go on a premium hunt.

I did a lot of research on packs a year ago. I was told the 3 best/most popular were the Mystery Ranch Crew Cab, Kifaru, and Outdoorsmans. I ended up with the Crew Cab and love it, think it will last many years. I don't know anything about the OX, but sounds like it's well liked and probably less expensive than the 3 I listed. CCRAN- I see you're in Safford. PM me if you want to check mine out.
