What a "Hoss"! Congrats on the find! Azsagebrush

Both these sets are from the same bull, they are 2 years apart. The sheds on the right are from 2005 (379"), the sheds on the left are from 2007 (395"). We couldn't find the bull's sheds in 2006, although we covered the area were we found the 2005 sheds. We found the 2007 sheds about 4 miles from were we picked up the 05 set. The 2007 set grow 4 inches on both G3's, 3 inches on both G2's, 5 inches on both G4's. The main beam stayed the same, but had a busted G5 in 07. I have video of the bull in the velet in 07 but never could find him once the rut hit. I am guessing that 06 was his biggest year, i wish we could find those sheds.

Giving him a 40" spread i think he came out to 393". Azsagebrush

After the 12" of snow that Tusayan got on Monday and our air tours of the Grand Canyon were shut down for the day due to weather I left work and grabbed my bow, and quad to took off to see if I could find a pig. After driving on snow packed highway 64 and seeing cars in the bar ditch I was second guessing if I made the right choice of going hunting in these conditions. Once I found a place to park my truck and trailer I took off for a 8 mile ride pushing snow with my quad. There were a few elk and deer tracks crossing the road then I came a across a group of pig tracks. I grabbed my bow and took off following the tracks, after about 300 yards I noticed several pigs under a juniper. I ranged them at 30 yards but there was several limbs in the way of a clear shot. I kept watching the group and here came the first nose and 2 more to follow, one by one all 9 of them started walking down the draw. I waited for them to get out of sight and I got up on a 15 foot ledge so my sent would get out of the area. 7 of them went to the bottom of the drainage and 2 split from the group and followed the drainage, and I was right above the juniper that they were walking to. I waited and sure enough the first one showed up under the juniper below me at 18 yards, I shot him using my 20 yard pin and should have shot him higher than behind the shoulder because the exit came out lower than I wanted due to me being up higher then the pig, I just wasn't thinking. The tracking was on! After about 3/4 of a mile in the 12" of snow seeing the pig several times and a light blood trail I glassed him up bedded under a juniper, I watched him for 10 mins. and he got up and started walking off. I looked at my GPS to see how far I was from my quad, .71 of a mile. I told myself to let him be and take a walk and get my quad, after 30 mins of a walk in the snow I got to my quad and drove to where I last seen the pig walking off. I started following his track very slowly, I picked him up walking just ahead of me. I picked up a tree that I thought he would come walking out from and ranged it at 20 yards, and here he came. He stopped just under the tree and that is when and where he took the fatal shot. Azsagebrush

Unit 9 "thief" still at large!
azsagebrush posted a topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I think we are done putting out trail cameras for this season. Put one out on Sunday afternoon, we went out Friday (8/17) afternoon and guess what? ............ It was gone! There was one set of fresh boot tracks on trail. I think we all still need to "brain storm" to come up with a plan to put a STOP to this. Azsagebrush -

Now i have see it all, i was telling my friend what happend to the camera he went to the area yesterday afternoon/eveming when he came to camp last night and said the camera was back on the same tree that we had stolen from. Now i'm a little unsure if i should touch it, the "thief" my have it "boobie traped". this is a little wierd. i thought about sitting in the trees and wait to see if he shows back up. Azsagebrush -
i have not looked into this, it's just a thought; what about inserting the same type of tracking device that pet oweners are having the vet put in below the skin of thier pets? i have no idea of the cost, who to purchase tracking device from, or how you monitor it once your camers comes up missing. just an idea. azsagebrush replied to azsagebrush's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Red Rabbit, We usually put them up Sunday late afternoons and pick up them up on Thursdays to TRY to keep honest, honest. The first camera we lost was set up on this schedule and Thursday evening it was gone with the wraper of the thief's new bolt cutters laying at the base of the tree. Azsagebrush -

i have felt very lucky, until yesterday. over the last 2 years my son and i have hung our cameras in a lot of different areas and yesterday a THIEF stole 1 of our cameras. we usually put them up on sunday evenings and take them down on thursday evenings, and we have had very good luck running this schedule. we were busy with work and didn't make it out to saturday afternoon. my son said that the dirty bast***s tried to cut the cable with no luck so they busted the plastic bracket. he also saitd that they left their package for their new bolt cutters laying on the ground next to the tree. live and learn, i guess that is the price you pay when you live in unit 9.
