Helped my Dad get a bear this year in 6A on September 6th. 4 yr old sow. 100% Spot and stalk. Could not tell if it was a sow or boar since I forgot my spotting scope. 4th day for me hunting and 1st day for my Dad this yr for bear. Not the best picture since it took a really long time to find a way through the brush and off 2 sets of cliffs. Bear was at the bottom of a huge canyon. Took us 2 trips to get the meat out. 2.32 miles each way so it was a good workout. Will do a more complete write up later. Maybe after the skull gets cleaned off.

Maybe this whole topic should just be deleted at this point. Tried to illustrate that a problem exists and people are just getting ticked off. When more problems happen later on oh well. If there is a way for me to do it I would since I opened up this can of worms.

Might want to take a look at a Redding T-7 Turret press. Kyle Brown shot a 4.2" ten shot group at 1000 yards for a world record in 2003 using one of these. I think he indexed to minimize runout. This press would let you keep your 9mm and 270 dies ready to go at all times. Till recently HSM was using Dillon presses exclusivity for their Trophy Gold ammo. I have a few boxes left of their 30-06 ammo and it keeps under 5/8" at 100 yards. Single stage is more accurate but slower. Depends on your needs at this time. All the Redding and Dillon stuff is really nice. If you see any good deals on RCBS don't pass them up since the final results will be good as well.

Every case I know of occurred when they were right next to each other or as I call it stacked up (not like stacking a show dog). I have seen two of these done with a shotgun, one with a bow, and was told about one with a 300 win. The guy with the 300 win I think killed three at the same time while they were eating on something during his elk hunt. This is the 1st one while running without them within a foot of each other and no shotgun to top it off. That is awesome!

Great topic Was thinking about trying some jump shooting this year and was wondering with steel shot how close you need to be to effectively kill ducks or geese. I was given some Remington 3" #2 steel and Winchester 3 1/2" T steel (these are not hypervelocity loads, more like standard magnums). These seem to pattern well with Carlson chokes (mod for T shot and full for the #2 shot) in my Versa Max and would also check with my Pattern Master choke if using the T shot on geese. I know how tight a pattern needs to be to kill a turkey with HD shot or lead plated shot. I once tried steel T shot on a coyote and penetration was really poor compared to lead. I assume the number of hits and the yardage will play a big role. Seems like we get some good activity on 5000-6000 ft waterholes for a couple weeks each year. Thanks Stewart

I mostly hunt 8, 6A, 6B, or 21 for whitetail. Last year I got an old 107" buck in 6A (at one point this buck was over 120", but got more mass and less length) after waiting years to get a tag. The place the buck hanged was not very conducive to archery. I hunt 19A for mule deer since I know of a few 180" plus mule deer. Every year I see 100" Coues in 19A but I have never seen anything close to 130". Now an area with a 130" would be a honey hole. To address the issue of bucks and fawns. You have to have breading occur to get a fawn. I have seen around 17 adult whitetail does this summer (I have seen well over 100 WT does in other units), ONLY 3 fawns (what is wrong with that picture), one 80" 3x3, and two 2x3 bucks. Only one of these bucks was near the fawns. No spikes or 2x2 bucks. Lions will kill a lot of bucks in a short period of time. I have seen 2 different lions in the last year in this unit. One was after shooting light in my headlamp and the other a mile away. I have seen coyotes hunting deer twice this summer. One time was while talking with a friend about the coyote problem in the area. I think that he was a little surprised to see 3 coyotes after 1 mule deer doe. So 19A has some issues that might not be realized by people new to the area or don't live in the area. I live in 19A next to prime whitetail habitat. I glass the area about 4 days a week with a Swarvoski STX 25-60 so I am confident that I know what hangs out in the area. I can easily glass up 2-3 bucks a day in units 8, 6B, 6A, 21, and 22 if I get off the roads a couple miles.

If anyone needs a new bird vest for quail or late season dove the Q5 Centerfire Upland Bird Vest is a great product. I used one during dove season up north this year and while doing dog training and this is one of the best designs I have come across. It rides just like a backpack and is made in AZ. The newest version of the vest comes with a rubberized material on the thin shoulder straps so your gun will not slip but is easily mounted. It also has an improved way of keeping your bird bag open. The camo pattern appeared to work very well for spooky doves. After emailing Dan Priest with some questions I ordered a vest for myself and my father. His website is easy to find with a Google search. Hunting with this vest was 300% more comfortable than a traditional vest and I could carry lots of water. There are water bottle holders and a spot for a water bladder. The only thing that I changed on the configuration of the vest was to swap for a snap on the waist belt, but that is just personal preference and does not change the effectiveness of the vest. The radio pouch is big enough for compact radios but is a tight fit for a Garmin GPS Astro 320 (plenty of other places to put this on the vest). I may get 1 or 2 Safariland 080-12 Shell Holders before quail season since I use an O/U for quail and like to be able to reload really quick. I think that these will fit perfect on the waist belt of the vest. The vest is really adjustable for various sizes of people including height and weight. This would be great if giving as a gift or for someone that is growing. I have some friends that have WingWorks Vests and they look a little more traditional but think the color options and versatility of the Q5 is amazing. Both seem very durable and can handle the brush in AZ. The Q5 Centerfire is the first upland bird vest that I would give a 5/5. The WingWorks is the next best with at a 4.5/5. Most vests are like a 2/5 or a 3/5 if cold outside. Stewart

Looks like you can get the camo one right now, but would call and double check. My only guess is they ran out of khaki since they are coming out with a new version of the Quilomene vest called the San Carlos. If they are out of the one you want call the guys at www.flushandpoint.com and see if they have any with the "rubber coating" on the shoulder straps. Their picture of the camo one has the rubber coating but not the orange khaki. Not sure when the "rubber coating" was added to the vests.

I agree, they need like 75 less tags in 19A. I would be very against an Oct whitetail hunt in 19A. Most of the deer harvested would be too young for the unit to support that type of a hunt. They first need to build up the population and not go crazy. That was my whole point of my posts so far. Sorry if anyone was confused.

Good buy if someone wants a good scope on a 17hmr. The bottom of the plex on mine is at about the 200 yard impact range out of my marlin.

15s may be tough for an all around bino. You almost have to use them off a tripod all the time so add that to the cost if you need a better one. They will work really well at 400-800 yards (if in the sun you can see animals really far off) and you will spot more game at these ranges. 10s work much better at closer ranges and during stalks. If it was me I would base it on what my next few really important hunts are likely going to be. If you are drawn for a rifle Coues hunt the 15s will be better in most units unless you have a spotting scope. I normally use 10s with a built in rangefinder and a 25-60x spotting scope (did use a 15-30x for a long time). I use the 10s mostly under 600 yards and the spotting scope for longer range stuff. I have needed to use the spotting scope at 350 yards to actually confirm that a buck we spotted with a pair of 15x slc neu was actually a deer on the other side of some brush. Someday I plan to buy the new HD 15s since some places I hunt most of the glassing is 600-700 yards and I know I miss seeing things moving first thing in the morning since the spotting scope has a smaller field of view. I do think that 15x binos -or- a really high end spotting scope are normally a priority for most hunts.

They just need to have a December hunt with a limited number of tags. I think people will be more likely to shoot older bucks during that hunt than an early hunt. With that large number of any antlered deer tags there could be way too many young Coues bucks taken.

$198 I think that the price is really competitive. I tailor hunting gear for my personal use, family, and friends. Just the material cost is well over $100 per vest if you made only a few. Who knows how much the sewing machine(s) cost to purchase and to keep running. Then to top it off Dan Priest is donating a percentage of his profits to Arizona Outdoor Adventures that helps underprivileged children actually experience healthy outdoor activities. The vest came in a duffle bag. Forgot to take a picture of it the other day. It will hold the vest empty, but if you leave stuff in it like I do then you can just use that for something else.
