I just read a neat article abour that. Some bucks will move all over the place and some bucks stay put most of the time. I imagine their personality as well as pressure of any kind plays a huge roll in that. so YEAH! 2 miles or 20 miles ! ! !

I spent from 5:30 this morning until 3:30 this afternoon in pursuit of antlers. . . . to no avail, I didn't find squat! What I did see was totally cool though! As I glassed across two very large canyons I spotted a group of 8 bulls. . . all wearing antlers still, none of them over 2x2 though. . . . there were two cows (or large bulls that had dropped already) with them. they were half mile off and me with 8x40's ha ha ha. I saw them cutting down a trail that leads to a large tank in the bottom of another large canyon . . . . I hit the gas and booked it over two canyons into the water hole in hopes to cut them off and get up close. It worked, I sat under a tree about ten yards from the water. . . and in about ten minutes they showed up! They came running out and started sparring not 20 yards from me, All of them were ugly young bulls and aliens. Those antlers are on there pretty tight, they were throwing their weight around a bit. It was the coolest thing ever! These guys hung around for about five minutes and then one of them came within 5 feet from me and must have smelled me (no scent killer on today) was in full camo though, he never saw me. They spooked a bit and trotted off up the canyon wall. That was very up close and personal for me, and the coolest thing I'd ever seen as far as that goes. I was stoked, I managed to shoot about 3 pictures from my camera phone, but the sun washed them out and all you can see is shadows under their legs! UGH! I also found the only shed I've ever set back down, it was friggin old and rotted almost out! Couldn't tell if it was a whitey or muley. . . saw three muley does. . . I saw about two dozen elk and two coues does that got scared off by another shed hunter packin a large revolver. . . he came into the tank about ten minutes after the elk ran off and fired some shots into the water. . . . I almost lit up my AR-15 and decided not to scare the man too badly, so I kept the safety on. . . . 120 rounds just aching to be unleashed I hiked my old crippled arse off today! Anyway that was my day in the field. . . . what a grand day it was. . . .

I'm totally jealous! Good start.

ha ha ha I don't know what the heck I'm doing obviously! I used the diagrams from the website. . . . I just don't know how to read a tape?? I am not sure how to run the tape along the tines. . . or Exactly where to start from. . . I eyeballed it . . . . who knows, maybe I'm drunk. . . thats it. Someone want to come measure them for me? I got cold beer in the fridge.

Oh I shot that one morning with my bow at 79 yards. . . he was asleep under a big radio tower just waiting for someone to . . . . no . . . . . Some guy made them out of wood and made everyone's eyes pop out for a couple years . . . . ha ha I knew that avatar would get people fired up ! ! ! LMAO ! ! ! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That JA makes alot of money on those carvings. I've seen him selling some of them on Ebay. Have you seen some of his other work? I think that mule deer scores something like 260 typical. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ha ha no I haven't seen him, I guess I should withdraw the JA part huh? "Sorry dude" for calling you a JA. . . . I'll bet he makes a bundle, there's one kind of like that at Sportsmans Warehouse in Phoenix, only its bigger. . . . I always pop my eyeballs out when I walk in there and see that thing. . . ha ha ha ha ha

So maybe someone can give me some sources for some archery hunts out of state for not very much money. My wife is already steamed for my new AR-15! My buddy and I are always looking for something to shoot at besides these muleys here in AZ. Something say Texas, or Colorado, or Cali, or NM would be perfect. . . . Anyone got info?? Thanks in advance.

I really don't know how the 3 spread numbers factor into the total score?? I set them on the ground and made them look about right to me and went from there it seemed to look right around @ 38 inches. We roughly measured the main beam length, 4 circumferences, and tine length and came up with around 178+182=360. . . . how does spread factor in ???? The website scored it like 340 or something after deductions??? But again. . . . I'm not sure I measure correctly. . . . I'm so green and learning.

If anyone can do it again. . . ol chucky can. That is a huge bull! I wouldn't hesitate at pulling the trigger at one half that big. -
Today we spent all day out and about. . . . Found a really cool tank about 2000 ft down into a canyon. . . . where I found five broken tips and one whale tail to some previously large antlers. . . . battle city down there! All from this years rut I expect. And we found an old chalky 30 inch broken 5 pointer. . . . I let my 5 year old find that one. . . he was stoked! He carried it 1/4 mile back to the jeep and was so proud to show mommy when we got home. . . now thats what its all about there. Anyone else find anytihng? My brother saw a pickup loaded down with brownines today. . . . disgusting!

Minutemen to Patrol AZ border in April
HEADACHE replied to az4life's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Amen to their support! #1. If they help stop one of those illegal drug smugglin drain on our ecnomy then they've done their job. (better than the feds are doing right now) #2. If they accidentally get into a firefight with some illegals heck YEAH! maybe the govt. will help us do something about it. My piddly two cents worth. -
I went out to Apache Maid/Stoneman Lake today BECAUSE IT WAS OPEN! ! ! I know there's a ton of elk out there somewhere. .. . . I see them all the time. I saw a bunch of quads running around. . . didn't see any sheds though. . . . Going out to another "secret place" tomorrow, ha ha ha ha My kids are getting sick of the inside of my jeep. . . . 2 days full now. Every time we get out to walk a bit, it starts howling and blowing snow all over us, it snowed four times today on us. . . . I might have to call in Grandma to sit tomorrow Where can I check online to see if the roads are open??? Can I call somewhere? Anyone know??
