No kiddin there I was knee deep in 60 brass and grenade pins . . . nothing left but my MRE spoon, the long brown one. . . . oh wait wrong story . . . I was actually driving up the road with my hunting buddy. . . I looked off to my right and saw a bunch of canyons kind of coming together. . . and then I got that "special feeling" you guys know "that" feeling. I said "I got a feeling about this place" I jerked the truck off the road and out we went. We walked a couple hundred yards and finally found some sign! Fresh sign! We crept into the canyon and started glassing, a small buck popped into view. We saw another, a small spike. I told my friend where there's two bucks there are four, so keep watching. Then a tall 3 pt walked out into view. He was nice, my friend told me to shoot him. . . I was a little hesitant, but entertaining the thought. After a minute they spotted us and began walking off. Thats when I saw this guy walk across! I said a good one! 26 inches! I watched them go zigzag up and over the ridge. We busted butt to get over there and in front of them a little bit. When we topped out the other side, my buddy saw that tall 3pt. There he is he said. Shoot him! I was in my binos trying to get him still and sized up when I saw this guy. I said A 4 pt! Shoot him, he's moving away he said. He never even saw this buck, only I did. I bounced back and forth between the tall 3 and this four pt, I never saw his other side, he only showed me his good side ha ha ha. I decided on this one just as the other bucks started off over another ridge. I knew it was only a matter of seconds before this guy would see them and follow. I was so winded that I could not get my scope to settle on his chest, I was high four feet, then low four feet. I was excited AND winded. . . the worst! Finally I just went with the "time it and jerk the trigger kind of thing" I ended up hitting him just a hair higher than I would have liked, but he dropped like a dirty wet shirt. My friend saw him just as the bullet blasted a big clump of hair and lung material out the other side. BAM! my 7Mag echoed through the canyon! just under 200 yards I figured. He dropped in his tracks and only kicked one time! Just like in the videos I thought. We walked straight over to him. And then I saw he was a 3x4. But oh man were we excited! PUMPED! I got my tag out and unloaded the rifle and let the celebration begin! I knew he wasn't huge for Kaibab, but he was sure huge for me! Thanks for listening.

Thanks to all for the kind words. Truth be known I am awful excited! I saw a lot of hunters in all the spots, but most of them in that burned out area. Can't wait until next year! Gonna try to go bigger!

Love those devil horns, those are so cool! Awesome bull, Congratulations bro.

Well I got my first ever Kaibab tag this year, after 7 years of trying for it. It is the Early 12-A East hunt. I have heard that I am supposed to start praying for snow every day until my hunt starts. I have never been up there before, so I don't have a clue about where to start. I will be up there on Oct 13- for my brothers first ever turkey tag, so I'll get to look it over a little bit. I have been online looking for pointers and tips to hunting the Kaibab, but I think most of that knowledge is pointed towards other units and not specifically my hunt. If anyone could point me in a general direction, Or a good place to start out, I would be most grateful. Thanks.

IMHO digital is used by military because it breaks up better under satellite surveillance. I like open patterns such as predator. I hate paying 60 bucks for a shirt, but it does work well.

Nice buck! Welcome aboard.

the first one is always the best one . . . .

awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This thread reminds me of the time we were riding our Quads down Gordens Well area and during a midnight run to comp hill, we ran over some illegals face down in the sand carrying some paper bags . . . wow. I mean really RAN OVER them. . . We called them in.

Mark, You have the patience of a saint, I would have let loose around 40 yards on a stud like that. As it was I hiked all over Gods green Earth and saw tons of elk and does. . . nearly got killed by a lightning Storm atop Kendrick mountain (if anyone was there, they can attest,) more lightning than rain! I had lightning blasting all around my head for about an hour. . . started a small fire too. . . . wicked. But hey if God wanted to off me, he would have done so long time ago. I wasn't sceered a bit. Be back at those carp this weekend, good luck to all!

Survey: Hunting Archery and Rifle Seasons
HEADACHE replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Gosh! I think . . scratch that I KNOW that looking forward to getting to HUNT archery Deer every year is the only thing that keeps me SANE! If it went to a draw, I might not get ANY TAGS ALL DANG YEAR! and frankly that would make me suicidal . . or even homicidal. . . take your pick. Oh the agony of looking online and seeing that I wasn't drawn for ANYTHING! . . way too much for my little selfish brain to handle! Thanks God for OTC Archery Deer tags! Can I get an A-MEN ??? -
You can get a Red dot scope in 1 power, this type is meant to be used with both eyes open, you just put the red dot on your target and let er rip. (Such as the Bushnell Trophy red/green dot) There are also holograph (Eotech) type sights that may work fine. Mounting may be a little tricky to work out. Maybe these will be an option for you.

Yeah JUST FYI, I got the LAST TWO boxes of ammo in 7mm from Sportsmans. Sweet deal! I am so stoked! I keep waking up and hoping it is somehow already the end of October!
-
Its a SNAKE. . . doesn't matter what kind, KILL IT! werd
-
Cracked out teens maybe drunk too, had to pee. Catch em and thump on their head!
-
Ar-15 and coyote call in hand usually makes for a sweet day!
-
I got mine yesterday, it came with a little DVD and a coupon for two boxes of COPPER bullets so we won't poison the condors who are eating gut piles. I will shoot copper all day if its free! Sweet!
-
Yeah, this deer is asking for it. I took this pic yesterday morning as the sun was coming up, shame I didn't get it better in focus. I am still learning with my new camera. After he stuck his tongue out at me, I put a whole jug of Buck Jam out right where he will find it. . . and a treestand to follow. Oh he's gonna feel my Rocket Steelheads!
-
ha ha ha ha I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard!

I got stuck up on a mountain top in a SERIOUSLY large thunderstorm one time, I quickly ran to the most covered spot I could find. I layed down "NEAR" a mid sized pine tree. There were lots of TV and Cell towers up taller than where I was. .. . . but BOOM! Lightning decided to blow the top off the tree I was under! Yeah, so basically doesn't matter what you do, just find a dry spot and pray. Don't climb the trees though ha ha ha And dont be a tree hugger. Snakebites have been answered perfectly by amanda. (good info there)
