HEADACHE replied to Coues&Coyotes's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Another bowhunter = +1 Another female hunter = +1 Another child in the field learning how to hunt = +100000000000000 Very very cool -
here is the smallest 4-5 point elk shed I ever did see at 14 inches. picked it up last year up near stoneman lake.

Today I got out and hiked and I mean HIKED! I did happen to count over 95 Elk though, one very large 7x7 bull with a 360 class 6x6 Crap I decended like 2000 feet! as I approached the bottom of the canyon I sat and glassed the walls. There I found at the top rocky rim a very large Cave. Just outside the cave. . . these white antlers. I hiked for two hours to get to them. My legs are jelly now. I knew they weren't good ones, but the challenge presented itself so I took it. After I picked up the sheds, I checked out the caves, turns out they were indian ruins. And they were full of bear crap! Yikes! Inside of one of the caves was a fresh set of coues tracks as well. hmmm interesting indeed. here are the chaulks and a small cell phone vid of the bigger ruin. Before you ask .. . . No I didn't take anything out of there either. Thanks for lookin.

yeah I was really trying to do some pre-drop scouting. I have picked up a few sets in that area before. Hopefully I get lucky some more.

I have seen big bulls without their antlers in mid Feb, I have seen 300 class bulls still holding them mid April. I have seen little spikes with them on at the end of April. But like COUESAZ said "You may as well not try to figure it out. In this state guys are there catching them as they fall from the head. I am not over reacting on this either." Sadly I have seen guys on their quads chasing the big ones around trying to get them to fall off! That is plain sad! Stupid Quadriders sometimes! It is a lot of fun though, try to get out where the quads can't go and hike your boots off. Besides finding antlers, you see a lot of other cool stuff too!

I been wearing out the soles on my boots trying to find my first cous shed. Today I went out and found my first one. Its so funny I was texting Josh about trying to find one and boom I did! Josh has so much antler finding mojo it travels through my cell phone. Had a great day in one of my favorite spots. Chased up Elk all day, shot a few vids on my cell phone of them, saw a Golden Eagle, and a few Coues as well. Don't have a clue what he would score, but here is my first coues shed find! SCORE baby! Cell Phone Elk Vids from today. First time I ever got these up too. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v214/_HE...=elkvid1mov.flv http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v214/_HE...ent=elkvid2.flv

Atta boy Joshy! I love those three arrow hunts! They cost so much that they make you mad when you are breaking them into a target, but when the hunts comes along. . . . let em ALL RIP! Congratulations on an awesome buck! You are becoming my hero man! my guess 265 inches. . . . yah why not.

Wow! That's one heck of a "first buck"! Congrats!

105 is my "uneducated guess" But all that matters is he is big enough to shoot. I see antlers bigger than his ears and I'm shootin!

Possible 153 in coues pickup
HEADACHE replied to jdmecomber's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
reminds me of this really huge set of sheds I found and just knew they were Whitey. . . I got ahold of Josh and took them by him LOL!!! thats a funny story man. I scouted those animals for months trying to see if they were crossbreeds and well sadly they were just screwed up muleys. -
Ditto . . . but what gets me going is how many cats have seen me!
-
I heard Kaibab and the strip fo sure, and maybe others as well Nothing to back it up, just in passing. . . either way Archery draw sucks. Just one more thing I get to be pissy about.
-
it reads weatherby, so it costs a lot more.

I got something right?!?!?! SWEET! I'm throwing a party! Actually I learned that during my hunters safety course. . . we had a very old knowledgeable guy teaching it. Very cool class.
-
thats a TOAD! Congrats!
-
awesome buck, awesome story! That is really a neat looking buck to me! Congrats!

one of my buddys shot an "antlered deer" one time and it had 3 points on both sides. There were no male genatalia down there at all, only a hole for pee to come out of. Very strange indeed. I don't think he ate it ha ha ha. Thats why your tags read "ANTLERED DEER" not "Buck" it does happen sometimes.

A big buck on your birthday . .. . . THAT RULES! Congrats.
-
Congrats! I took a Marlin 45-70 lever as my other gun on my hunt too! Just thought I had to share that.
