    22 Bears?

DUDE! Nothing makes me more mad OR skiddish as when I see Bears all over my deer spot! That totally makes me HOT! It has happened to me twice, the second time I walked right into (like 20 feet from) two sows with cubs! I was five miles from any help too and I only had 45 rounds of 9mm on me! Since then I bought an XD in .45 ha ha and I pack three mags everywhere I go! Stupid Bears I hate em!

lonely pop-trailers on National Forest land

Ha ha hat sounds about right, the guy we talked to said 2 days. . . . thats a big difference from 10 days!
  5. The mossberg 4x4 might be ok, I have no experience with that rifle. The 715 has some plastic parts that break. Spend the extra couple bucks and get a 700 if you are looking at the remmy. And the 300Win Mag is very comparable to the 7mm, Its a hair larger diameter. But like a sister on paper.

    What would it take?

Totally! I passed up a screwed up buck two years ago opening day, he was a huge five by one! a large dagger grew out of one side it was wild! Anyway I passed on him and then never saw another buck the whole season! If it were my first bowkill, I would shoot at anything 3x3 or larger. Today it would take 171 or bigger I guess.

    Not Deer Hunting!

I used up all my personal days to get out Thursday night to the Kaibab baby! Whoo-hoo!!!!
  10. In my humble opinion, 7mm is a much better round than the 270. More versatile ammo wise, and you can get heavy 175gr. bullets for elk, or light 140gr. bullets for deer. It is super flat, super fast, and you can get ammo nearly anywhere. The new hot craze for all those Short Magnums are just a craze. . . yes some of them perform well, but you can't buy ammo at your local small shop for a lot of those either. 270WSM is one of those that is very comparable to 7mm on paper, but hard to find stuff for at times. Most gun companies make the 7mm and 270 in exactly the same price range. So yes, you can get that same gun at walmart in 7mm for the same money 9 out of 10 times. I would suggest that Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm, the barrels are very accurate, and it is a super sweet gun for the money. Also savage, or remington 700, NOT the 715. The howa is also a good gun for the price. And 7mm is not too much round for deer, I popped two good bucks with mine, and they both dropped flat in thier tracks, no meat loss on either one. Only downside to the 7mm is the kick, get a heavier gun and it wont kick so much, I would suggest do not get a ported 7mm, it will be the loudest gun you have ever shot ha ha I mean those ported 7mm guns are flat LOUD!. . . my .02

    Oops!

I know you already have a cam there, and Maybe its just me, but if I were to come across that sign, I would just go to a different spot. Its not like its the only spot in the world, and the possiblity of a problem by having you both sit there is high, it might get ugly. (If it were me,) I'd just go somewhere else. I would consider it being poilite to another hunter. Seems like he was just leaving a note out of courtesy, and also so that nobody might be so inclined to steal his volleyball net ha ha. Not saying thats what YOU all should do, but thats what I would do, flame on.

And do you all think that Randy is the only one who does that??? ha. no way jose. When it comes down to money and contracts and all that stuff, I'd venture to say that many people bend those grey area rules as well. I'd love to see RU with a big ol buck and a Mathews bow too!!! shoot me one of those pictures!

lonely pop-trailers on National Forest land

It doesn't bother me in the least, I say give it a try. I think the law is to keep the hippies from "living" in the forest and also to stop homesteading but I don't know. We were looking into it, thats why we asked a FS guy the law. It seems like they never catch the worst offenders, but the nice guy who asks permission, well he gets the hammer ha ha.

lonely pop-trailers on National Forest land

we just talked to a FS guy about this, he said 14 days on an attended trailer. If it is left alone and there is nothing changed to it, one day they will leave it, next day they will tag it for removal. You may not leave them up there unattended for more than 2 days or it can be towed away.

    I'm out

I just went out and bought my first set of radios, been hunting in the woods with my bow for about 15 years now and have never used radios. No fun talking on a radio to yourself. And I always thought they were illegal ha ha ha shows you how much I pay attention. ( I can hear you laughing Josh) But honestly I don't care if you use them. I am glad that we are all getting along a little better now, maybe this will help bring our hunting fellowship closer together. We are all brothers in hunting, we may not share all the same resources, or ethics, or have the same ideas about certain things, but make no mistake, we all love to be in the woods hunting with our weapons and cleansing our manly spirit in the great outdoors. The beast is dead! Long live the beast! (I don't know why Uncle Ted says that, but it sounds pretty cool sometimes)

    arrow inserts

I love your sig line man . . that rawks! I say "lightly" epoxy something like an old field tip inside it and once it dries, use a blow-dryer on the outside to help loosen it up from the outside, at least a change in temp might help a bit, then pull like heck.

  24. Not asking for a honey hole or anything. But if you want to pm one to me that would be stellar. My question is, Archery season vs. Rifle season, Am I likely to find bucks in different areas? I got a beautiful Archery tag that starts the 22nd and want a tip or clue as to where to hunt them. I have talked to a few people and so far they have told me the same spots as I hunted during rifle season. Are they going to be in the same "type" areas as they were in rifle season, or are they liable to be in "other type" places, terrains etc. . . I have only hunted Kaibab one other time, (last year when I got my 171 " buck) so I don't really "know the Bab" just yet. I have done lots of reading up on various sites etc, but can't seem to find this out. I understand this herd migrates north and south in and out of Utah. Thanks guys for any help. This forum rocks!

    Carrying Handgun while hunting

My XD in 45 is the best handling carry gun I have ever shot! Hands down. best way to pick one is go to a gun shop and handle everything under the counter, pick a spot on the wall, close your eyes, pull ithe pistol up and aim it, then open your right eye and see how well it points naturally in your hand, if it is way off, consider a different gun, if it is right on, buy it.
