    My first pronghorn buck.

I must say I had no idea what pronghorn hunting was all about until this Friday started. I drew my first tag ever for pronghorn. (I won't say how many bonus points I didn't have for fear of making people believe the bonus point system doesnt work so well....) I Had some ups and some downs, but hey!, thats just hunting, eh guys? After many days of chasing a nice big black buck and not getting any clear shots. I decided it was time to just let some bullets fly! I watched this guy and another similar buck for about half an hour and while some other does had me pinned down unable to move any closer I watched this guy start to leave the basin and was about to disappear forever I thought. The Best range I could gather from the rangefinder was a whopping 758 yards.... I know thats quite a poke but I felt comfortable in taking the shot..... needless to say the bullet didn't hit its mark perfectly, as it was a bit high in the neck... (I'll just blame that on the wind in Prescott Valley sound good?) but the buck dropped in his tracks and I have my first antelope! Took it in to the taxidermist today and although he is very short, he is very massive. My buddy and I had guessed him at about 72-73" and he fooled us good, this buck taped out at 80 inches! I couldn't be happier! I'm having him mounted! I am glad to have learned so much about hunting these critters and I am also glad to be done.... my feet are killing me! Since I was hunting all by my lonesome I don't have any nice posed pics .... I had the meat processor snap this one from my cell phone. It will have to do, but it really doesn't show his thickness. Thanks for lookin!

  13. SOLD THIS MORNING ON ANOTHER SITE! THANKS FOR LOOKING GUYS! Marlin 1895M 450 aka the Guide Gun. non-ported I shot my black bear with it a few years back. I have only shot this a couple hundred rounds. It puts a smile on your face! Nothing wrong with it at all, smooth shooter, most powerful production lever gun made. the 450 Marlin was designed as a belted magnum improvement on the awesome 45-70 govt cartridge. The gun has a couple small dingers in the stock from the 3 or 4 times I've taken it out. It's clean and well maintained. The only reason I am offering it for sale is because my mom and dad were given a timeshare and airfare tickets to go to Hawaii. (as a gift from other teachers, for her 25 years of teaching service) They are pretty much poor and don't have much money to have a good time while they are there... I thought I'd sell off something and give them the money to really have a nicer vacation. (they've never even taken a real vacation anywhere together) So anyway I'm asking $450 for this fine Bear slaying machine! THIS WEEK ONLY! It IS Bear Season you know boys! Pics: Its the one on the very far right... amidst a couple 30-30's etc. Any quesitons please dont hesitate to ask. here's my cell if you wanna call or text. 928-300-6142 Thanks for looking boys. I'd be willing to meet someone within a couple hours of the center of the State.g guys.

    scouting today

Think we spotted 2 shooters. my 1st ever pronghorn tag and I'm pretty stoked. Hard to take decent pics with cell phone slammed up to spotting scope but I thought I'd share anyway. This one is the one I think I want to shoot, we call him blackie because his face is so dark. lemme know what you guys think, as I am no expert at judging size yet. I did buy the grimmett video and it is super awesome! Thanks Eli! anyway I couldn't get pictures to the other buck we may want to shoot... thats life.... but he's as good as this one, just layed out differently. The blown out pictures make his horns look a lot skinnier than they really are. But it is what it is I guess.

  18. I took a new archer high school kid up to one of my honey holes Friday and today. We Hunted Friday hard saw lots of good bucks. Two great bucks. He got his 1st two shots at a little forky buck first thing Friday morning.... missed but man was he excited! This morning we were back up the mountain and saw lots of bucks. One great Buck...no shots...until.... I sent him on down to a different spot as I started working the mid level thick bedding ground stuff in my patented slow-motion stalk mode ha ha ... spotted this guy standing up from his bed. Clicked him at 67 yards. Downhill a touch. I shot him for 60 yards. He made the mistake of standing there just one second too long. Let the Mathews z7 do all the talking as I sent the rocket steelhead through front of both lungs and into this old rotten stump! Kersplat! I wasn't sure of the hit so I yanked up my bino's to try to watch for a hole in his chest.... or see how he reacted. I think that he was scared by the stump blowing apart right next to him cuz he was at full stride ... Buck jolted off at full speed and wrapped himself around a tree 45 yards later. My second velvet archery muley Buck and I couldn't be happier!

  23. I like to use the dead down wind soap in the shower. I use whatever scent killer is on sale for my detergent in the laundry... I really like the dead down wind and the primos silver spray in the field.... But if you want the best trick around... go to the health food store and buy a bottle of chlorophyll tabs... start taking them 10 days before your hunt... one or 2 a day IT TAKES YOUR HUMAN SCENT WAAAAY down! Truth... best trick out there!
