Ya I understand the whole public land deal I have no issues getting away from people or having other people around. I was more thinking of fellow hunters in different hunts and basically being really oblivious to others. On our cow hunt we ran into a lot of other guys on water but we parked down the road and creeped in glassing and as soon as we saw someone we bailed out. When you drive your ranger crew to the waters edge during a hunt just seems wrong, for you and everyone else. The guys we talked to were all super cool and we worked together no issues. This was just something new to me that I hadn't run into yet so thought I would get some other horror stories and shoot it around a bit.

Last 2 years late cow hunt didn't look or sound very good from my point of view and others I talked to. Although my dad tagged out this year we didn't see much. I'm guessing the shot we had might have been our only opportunity. Unit 8 last year we didn't see 1 elk on my buddies tag, even with snow we found very few trails. Scouting we had some on camera in 8 but hunt time we couldnt figure where they went. This year I scouted 6b 4 total days and had good luck but during the hunt in 5 days we saw 4 cows. There was sign all over 6b in every spot we went but with the lack of weather a lot of it was hard to say how old it was. When the pressure hits they know where to go for sure. They do their thing at night and hide out all day. Every other hunter I talked to in 6b said they had seen 1 or 2 running off but that was it. A lot of guys sitting water. This hunt had a lot of pressure and hunters in my opinion, compared to the few I've been on anyway.

Maybe kids friends, my kids buddy tried that and I nailed his butt.

Sweet bull congrats. After a few public ground hunts this year in mainstream areas I think we are going to stop hunting Friday through Sunday, just head up Monday and have much less pressure. It was amazing how much more enjoyable the woods were Monday on.

Ok I'm processing my own elk this week, what's the census on saws? Sawzall with new blade that I already have or should I buy a hand bone saw at cabelas or sportsmans? Going to make shanks and osobucco

Legally though you might get flack for the combo

Take both, make it the hunt you want.

Yikes that's a lot of meat man congrats. Where do you process your meat? -
Funny thing I had that dang 25 lb weight on me when dad dropped his elk!!! Last load I felt silly hauling meat and that weight. Haha

So what do you do when your on a schedule for fitness and your off hunting a lot? With my buddies tags we hiked some big miles so not a big issues there, I also left him in the stand a few days and hiked into new country to scout thus getting some miles in. Another thing was I elected to carry some of his gear to add weight. So on my pops hunt we hiked some but super slow and not far or into canyons as I would normally. I carried his and my sons gear along with stuffing a 25 lb weight in where my bladder would go. I made it out 2 afternoons for a run as well. Back home now and ready for a big run tonight. White tanks after hitting cabelas for a meat grinder and sausage stuffer. Haha I fed the heck out of my boys and they both lost weight, dad lost 5 lbs and says his daily walk is too easy now.

January Coues Rut Predictions Central AZ
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'm betting on an early rut. We saw some bucks sparring recently and tearing up trees.
