The age old one rifle for everything debate. Im putting together and rifle for a new hunter and walking him through the whole process . In the end he will have his rifle fully outfitted ready to hunt as well as everything he needs to reload for it. Although he had a high budget I feel it's better for him to start factory and learn his way into a custom next year. So for an off the shelf 28 nosler what options under 1000.00 is anyone familiar with???? also looking at 270 wsm, what's the census between the 28 and the 270 option?

It won't be the first gun he shoots just the first one he owns. But a magnum rifle with a break is not a cannon.

First time gun owner first time hunter this coming season and I will be doing all his custom hand loads and walking him through to a point where he can do the same next year. Yes my opinion is in the mix but when your at zero you need some guidance. I wish I had someone like me looking out for me when I started. I'll be doing his application for hunts and running camp. Perhaps I earned the right to push him into a gun I like? I will admit I'm also pushing him into what I already have for reloading as well. We will be buying all the items for him to be on his own before deer season so I guess if he picks some round I don't use its no big deal. Maybe he will go for the 7mm08!!! this is the guy who will know more than me and have more guns than me about a year from now, I'm just pushing him over the hill to get him rolling. Can't wait to spend someone else's money on this crap. Haha

What about traps? My favorite so far is the cone shaped 2 pc style , the one pc square ones from bass pro seem to catch way less . We have caught them any time of day or night on any water we have tried, we usually leave traps for 10 hours minimum up to 24 hours. Just organized our traps 2 days ago while cleaning up another mess.

Scope is already in , 6-24 HS LR viper . Im kind of liking the idea of buying a rem 700 and re barrel to 28 nosler i like the 7mm rm and shoot one myself but I don't care for belted cases

I just looked at some options at sportsmans and with the pricing it looks like I'm leaning him towards the 7mm wsm. The only thing close to 1000.00 was the X bolt speed but I didn't like it. He still needs to do his looking and touching but so far unless he goes up to 1600.00 the 28 doesn't look good.

Thanks for the info, I have several boxes of partitions in 7mm 180 grn that's why it was leaning to the front , 7mm wsm is in there too. I'm headed to sportsmans to hold a few in hand and see what they might have in 28. A lot of guys mention that browning so I'm hoping they at least have one there to handle in any caliber.

Anyone have experience fishing tuna offshore out of Oregon or Washington? I use tumbler media as filler for black powder for breaking balloons , the powder tends to light the media or project it and help with breaking distance. Thats the only filler I'm familiar with.

Great place that few I know have seen, lucky enough to have taken mules on a 9 hour ride through the canyon. Life altering.

My first suggestion would be to dig into everything that south cox has on podcast and video then maybe dig into Robby denning for the same including podcasts he has been on . Both guys are very patient and successful They don't hunt az much but the act is very similar. I would find a unit you either really want to be in based on feel or terrain or a unit you can get in allot and find a few areas that are glassable and just start glassing like crazy , other than that don't know what to say. Most of the areas I hunt were shown to me luckily but I do have a few of my own. Its very tuff to get started from scratch but what else can you do

If I remember right the timing between unloading a lot of lion opportunity and the legislation attempt to ban cat hunting was pretty close. What does it matter if turn out is low?
