Best Backpack for late elk hunt

I forgot my pack the other day and was hauling salt so just tossed 50lb bag in a 10 dollar duffle and slung my arms through the carry handles, haha not very comfy but made a few miles with it.. anything will work so don't sweat it too much.

Sous Vide - Sounds weird.. changes the game..

The circulation is better but my big high end unit doesn't circulate and its been great for 13 years. Heck you could just try it in your oil. No reason it shouldn't work as well or better than water as long as the temp is right. oil aint going to hurt the freezer bag. I doubt that temp controller is going to kick on within 2 degrees though. Im guessing 10 to 15 drop then it will kick back on and most likely over temp it.

One thing not mentioned I do a lot with this method is take a whole roast frozen and toss it in the machine in the morning and let it ride all day. At dinner time just sear it off hot and slice and serve. Nice and easy. Another fun one is to take frozen steaks and toss them on the smoker for an hour then bag them up and sous vide them for another 2 hours at 129 then sear them off and serve, that one is really good.

That will do the same thing as long as it will hold the temp where you want it. Anywhere from 120 to 165 I started out using this method with a cast iron pot and the oven. I just put temp probe in the water and kept an eye on it, when the temp started to get lower I would kick the oven on for a few minutes then turn it back off. Not as easy but the same thing. I catered a party and did 4 whole fillets in my sous vide machine and then transported them to the party in a cooler with 132 degree water in it. An hour later it was still 129 and worked out perfect. As far as cost I bought my first machine 13 years ago for 459.00 so todays 119.00 units are much more affordable. I still use my original unit.

    Repairs

I would look for a machinist that might have a thread file set. with those fine threads probably just have some light deformation that could be coaxed out by hand. I would think maybe outdoorsmans might be able to hook you up with the shop they use. They make some rally fine threads on some of their parts.

Trying to obtain high FOC - without killing velocity

I did a test yesterday with arrow straightness. Small test so surely not something to live by. I had some arrows I spun on my jig and they were bent about .010 or more towards the front end. I separated 4 arrows from the good ones but built them the same as the rest and marked them as squirrel or rabbit arrows. I shot about 9 arrows at a time and decided to see if there was noticeable inaccuracies with the tweaked arrows vs the straight. Shooting both field points and 2 blade fixed heads after 6 sets of shots I couldn’t see any difference at all out to 40 yards. I figured as much but just wanted to really look at it. Like me most people can’t out shoot their equipment.

Awsome, maybe my second all time favorite sandwich is cheese steak. Number 1 is the pastrami straw which is similar to the cheese steak.

Trying to obtain high FOC - without killing velocity

Play around and spend money if you want but your set up is fine where it is. I went into this and did some testing and ended back where I started. I made my own custom inserts at 35 grains and shoot 100 grain heads so im 135 up front, have no idea what the percentage foc is but it paper tunes dead on and goes up to the fletchings in targets.. A little trick if you do start playing with front weight is to add wraps to the back end if you get underspined, I had 8 in wraps on mine with 4 fletch and that's the best I got until I dropped the front weight. I just need to shoot better like was mentioned above. I shoot too many different bows also. (Easton fmj 29 in cut, 3 fletch with 6 in wraps 35 grn inserts and 100 head at 502 grns total) 72 lbs draw @29 1/2 hit about 278 fps I wish I had a sound meter to see numbers but I can tell a big difference from lighter arrows in noise

    30 Day Magdalena Countdown

Loreto is one heck of a trip, my buddies family took me with them down there when we were seniors in high school, we drove all the way. epic fishing and diving. Ill never forget that trip. we spent 3 weeks down there and caught just about every fish there is. 30 lb tuna all day long and I pulled in a 130 lb grouper. Back then it was 85.00 for a panga for the day and those guys had you on fish non stop. We were 15 years old and they dropped me and my buddy off in the little town and left us for the day, bet that doesn't happen any more down there. Walked around with a six pack of beers and a belly full of steak. Some of the best diving and snorkeling Ive ever seen right out of the casita. I bet it hasn't changed a bit since 1992

    San Diego Tacos

Really simple man, I can’t believe I wasn’t making these all along. Masa Harissa or corn masa and chicken stock or broth. Mix in masa and stock till it’s like popcorn texture and if squeezed it keeps a nice smooth shape. Press in between plastic on tortilla press and cook in hot pan 3 min total and place in foil covered to steam finish. I have added lard and it’s good too but this is clean and light.
