Tony put up some good links and info on this and I commented there but here is a question for all who hunt unit 10. What conditions of the land have you seen in recent years? I.E. fence , road, damage,, trash,, roads tore up by vehicles on and off road? Basically is the areas you go getting trashed???? If its not bad and this money goes to pay for ranch infrastructure I would say good for them if they can get away with it but I wouldnt give them my money.

I read up on this today and this is great info Tony Thanks. I have only been in unit 10 one time and did not plan on hunting there but some freind's drew December elk tags there and it is a little shady they now have this fee. I think implementing could have waited at least for the fee part until next draw cycle. I know they said they would not have put in for the hunt had they known this ahead of time. Sounds like it will improve hunt quality IMO. What might the penalty be for not having proper permits? Just curious. "the pain to change must be greater than the pain not to change"

Down to my last 2 lbs of Javi, here are some memories.
-
Had some fun with the powder coating set up and a few sips of crown.

I was up on the rim all week from eastern 3C to 5A and all the bulls and spikes had full velvet. No fresh rubs. Man is it beautiful up there right now. Found one old deer rub close to the ground that looked like a chain saw hit it. Like a 6in diameter trunk with thick bark and it was bare on one side. Maybe a bear but it looked like deer.

CO OTC archery elk - looking for a partner
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to azpredator@work's topic in Elk Hunting
AZ Pred, I sent you a pm, I am interested in going with you. I have 2 weeks off and am hunting deer here in AZ but would sack my week 2 to go up and help on your hunt and split cost. Let me know I can call, video, pack meat, cook. I am organized and game for any hunt situation. -
I missed out on all draws this cycle so I too pick this tag up. I am hitting the archery season hard this year but if by chance I am not tagged out I would be interested. I have only researched the area and will most likely not make it down to scout but I will hunt hard for 4 days by backpack most likely. I will let you know by PM later if I will be going down there. I already have a plan of attack and base camp planned out and have been on the phone with the Rangers down there. I have maps on order and will scout all I can form home and by map.

Really bad deal to hear, extremely sorry to hear of this. Hope it all ends up better than it feels right now and it will. Maybe if you can stand it, you could let us know some of the security or lack there of that you had so we can all learn. I am paranoid since this has happened to me on a small scale so I have security cams recording, security monitored system on the house and I have a very large bolted down safe. MOst valued items are in safe deposit box. Nothing is full proof but we do what we can. I was leaning into another gun purchase a while back and decided I needed to get my guns and ammo out of the closet and went for the safe instead of adding more guns that could be grabbed with no resistance. One other item is I video and computer cataloged all items including serial numbers so the insurance idiots cant screw me like in the past. This includes all items in the house like furniture and cars and everything.

Magnum primers in a standard cartridge?
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to standman's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I reload about 100 pcs of any and all calibers weekly and only use magnum primers in everything for my rifles. I got tired of looking to see what was what and switching primers around. -
i got the unit 29 nov 8th rifle we will see how August goes.

Thankfully my lifestyle before hunting was fitness all the way. I live by the rule to do something everyday no matter how big or small. My new rule is I don't get dinner if I don't work out in some way that day. It works pretty good but if I miss a day it throws me off and motivates me to get it done. Recently I went back to the basics, push ups sit ups pull ups squats and then I do triathlon style regimen with swimming biking and running throughout the week. One day a week at the gym I do a mini triathlon swimming for 30 minutes then biking for an hour class and then running 4 miles on the tread mill. Works for me. The main thing that really got me in this mode was the removal of television. We only watch movies on the dvd now and very little of that even. This gets me out working or working out instead of on the couch. Of course no fast food for the last 8 years helps and zero soda for me. Whiskey while in the saddle is my downfall. Every year a group of sudo freinds gets together for the canyon hike so this motivates me to keep going on fitness so I am not hurting down the canyon. Last year 4 of us did the double, rim to rim on friday then back on saturday. I was really ready for some backcountry after that one.

Anyone looking for a NOV 8th unit 29??? I didn't get drawn so I sent in for the leftover down there. Never been down that way even to visit but I have done some research in the past and have wanted to go for a while. Going to be a backpack trip for 4 days if things don't go as planned in August.
-
If I put an app in for the leftover on the 22nd I dont lose points correct? The regs say after the computer draw but it sounds like they will "computer draw" again if you send the ap in on the 22nd?
-
Congrats everyone, nothing for me and my kids. Counting points now. Looks like Co. Elk OTC maybe

Ya on the 6:0 I have spent like 4000 total in repair since 2004 and have never broke down and this egr deal is to fix for sure. Way I figure is I paid 34,000 cash in 2004 so 38,000 total but still way ahead in the long run since I will drive for another 7 years plus. No way in hhhh I would pay 60,000 for a new truck. Ill buy a uses dodge next if mine dies

Bought the Fullfield E1 in 3x9x50 and its great so far. We will see in the field hangin from the saddle how it holds up
-
I am thinking of getting the fullfeild 2 or fullfeild E. Anyone have experience with these. I have never owned Burris. Going on a 30-06 custom gun for hunting 3-9-40 style.

I had the same deal but we were watching her get bit and took her in for antivenum for 1200.00 bucks. We now get all our dogs snake shots yearly at the vet and they said same thing just bring them in for anti inflamitory and antibiotics. Sorry to see that hope shes ok
-
On a serious note My 6.0 is in the shop as we speak getting the Bullet Proof EGR delete and the external oil set up. 3000.00 bucks but with the chip and turbo back exhaust minus the cat she should get me up north a little quicker.

Polling to see how everyone would feel about No more "off road" travel to retrieve game? Meaning you would have to clean the downed animal where it lays and bring it to the road. I have seen some tire ruts in some beautiful areas and its depressing.

Off road travel to retrieve Big Game
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in The Campfire
Sitting home just me and the dogs watching butch cassidy sipping a glass of zin makes me a big sap, here's to one shot kills next to easy access roads for all this year, good luck to all and may no one lose a blood trail.
