Trails into the canyon are decent, pretty tough hunting in there though and some tuff packing. I did a few hikes from the bottom up this year and the trails are choked but passable. Glassing was hit and miss with all the growth. Find a good map and it will have the trails on it, Sedona website has most trails listed as well, just watch out for the ones with spirit energy in them.

My family will be up with pack mule for 2 friends hunts. Good luck, supposed to be clear and cold.

Much appreciated, PM sent. Not seeing other hunters sounds like a good deal to me.

So I have been saving and planning for a Colorado trip early archery OTC either sex. I have narrowed down to about 3 units with the main one being unit 74 north west of Durango, anyone have any experience in this unit? Not looking for spots to go of course, I have a plan of attack A, B, C, and a fishing pole if those don't work out but just wondering about conditions, hunter density and such. I will be packing 2 mules so I will be off roads for sure. I may or may not get up there to check it out so just wondering about odds and ends if I can get them.
-
Thats the key there, LOTs of elk. The success rates are not very high and hunter density is lower than other units. I am guessing due to the fact that there is alot of off road land in there. I have heard alot on the ski resort and several guys I have talked to are headed there so I will avoid it or like you said ride on past several miles. Really just looking for what weather to expect, maybe where to fish in there, If there were like 200 groups camped in the campgrounds stuff like that.

Good deal, appreciate the feedback. I do some long range shooting and get out to 1800 + but along the same lines shot deveation varies so much with the slightest difference in the field that I just don't trust any kind of comfort I get when things are lining up in practice. I dont shoot enough to really be a judge though and I only hunt with sporter lightweight guns so 200 yrds will be my max for now. -

MULEPACKHUNTER replied to kingbeer's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
I was in the same area Northwest of Payson on some pears but no bears, dont doubt there in there but didnt see any. Had about a 100 in white tail walk 30 yards from us on the mules in there. -
Only limited to how many rnds you can carry. I tape 30 rnd clips together for quick change
-
You guys are really bumming me out, I may be solo in there for the hunt!!!! GUess I will have to bivy in some thick stuff and stay off the trail. Bad enough hearing animals at night without hearing people moving around as well.

Great info thanks, so as a ranch volunteer I will be putting out a lot of deer cane #6 for the cows. They really love that stuff, it gives them a shiny coat. Kidding of course, thanks again -
Not much change, hard part is getting a feild day

Good news is when the gates close those who can walk or ride have some areas all to themselves -

What kind of range are we looking at here? Gald you were able to put him down congrats. Seems risky to me and its just me, I am new to this but I hope I can get close enough to make the first one hit the mark. Alot of chances to wound an animal in that video. My 2 cents aren't worth alot but there they are.
